I have been keto since the first lockdown and feel great, lost 1 st at 78y I don’t know why it is taking this country so long to understand that we can’t go on the way we are , eating all this junk is not good for us ,veg oils, serials ,rubbish bread and so on. Don’t knock it if you haven’t tried it.

for beginners having issues, trust me, a proper transition period where you slowly shift into low carb, instead of quickly diving in, is far better. try to reduce carb intake over a month or two. just dont do weird stuff like high-carb-high-fat. and youll be fine. also, stop fearing salt and saturated fat. theyre not as bad as you think.

I've tried keto low carb, modified low carb, carnivore, etc. All of which I wanted to work, terribly so. In the first couple of days, even three weeks one trial, I cannot seem to sleep more than a couple-few hours, and the quality of sleep is terrible. I added electrolytes w/2000 to 5 grams of potassium and didnt help. I tried honey before bed recommened by one thread member. I've read countless articles, watched videos, had my genes checked. All that to say, I can't seem to understand why it won't work for me. Unless it's a cortisol issue. I also notice my joints begin to fall apart, which is the opposite for most people. I get gout-bascially, which I'm sure is Uric acid. Anyway. I figured I'd ask one more person. Got any tips? I did find I have a gene that makes it harder for my body to bind cortisol.

@@necessaryJustice_4all it could be taurine deficiency. i had something similar to that since i used to be on a plant based diet which is very deficient in meat(ergo deficient in taurine). try taking taurine. its what regulates electrolytes in the body. i had electrolyte issues too when i was taking electrolyte supplements and eating liver. i stopped taking electrolyte supplements and liver and that made things better. liver has high amounts of copper which can mess up electrolyte balance and your sleep. taurine can help make you sleep better too. i tend to get excellent sleep the more meat and taurine i get in the day. also make sure you have good sleep hygiene: sleeping on time, waking up on time, getting sunlight if possible, avoiding artificial lights when the sun is no longer out. i tend to have very good sleep nowadays. eating carbs dont seem to improve/worsen it. i dont recommend you take honey. i tried that one. had zero positive effect. what it did instead was cause me some health issues. dont worry too much about genes. try out taurine for a few months and see if it improves your life. just dont megadose(do it safely. i saw some foIks go over 6 grams everyday which is scary). taurine helped me alot. nowadays i no longer need to take taurine since the deficiency had already been sorted out. it took months to fix the problem. and thats on a carnivore diet btw, a diet very high in taurine. it took a while to fix the damages caused by decades of eating an inappropriate diet. also there could be other factors affecting you too. i had oxalate issues which probably contributed to electrolyte issues and poor sleep. i also had joint issues with my right knee and ankle. it took a year to sort this one out. taurine is used to deal with uric acid and oxalate crystals in the body. oxalates in particular are really nasty. because taurine is used to get rid of them, those with oxalate issues tend to require more taurine

I was a carb machine. I’m talking 4 McDoubles in one sitting, multiple starches on my plate, etc. I’m 6’7 and lost 43 lbs in keto a couple years ago after hitting 270. I wasn’t consistent and gained even more weigh back up to 290. Now I’m back on “lazy keto” with very light carbs but not full keto and I’m definitely feeling it. No matter how much water I drink I don’t feel hydrated. I’m doing electrolytes, potassium, etc. and the multi vitamin feels like a complete waste cause I can see the neon green b vitamins color in my urine. On top of that I’m on a methadone taper, and feeling the effects of opiate withdrawal daily. It’s hell but life will be better because of it. No pain no gain!

How long did you feel those side-effects? As for me on keto.. It's been around 3 months. The dry mouth is definitely there, along drinking water and talking in electros. Peeing is there also.. I'm day 123 now on carnivore diet and I have headaches sporadically that started about 6 weeks ago. I read that we end up using all our glucose stored in liver and the brain uses glucose for energy and the loss of that causes headaches. Is that a carnivore diet myth? I was 32 years a vegetarian, no sugar, alcohol, or smoking, 68 yrs old, obese by 100lbs over, all the metabolic syndrome issues, lost 27 lbs so far, and experiencing many other pluses. I just hope it doesn't mean gradual brain damage.

I am not to the point of low carb yet, but I have recently been quitting caffeine (hot chocolate and sodas, never drank coffee), and have largely quick sugar (liquid), and most other sweets. Sir is it safe for long term can u please make a video on ... What r long term complication of the low carb diet
@scamdem1c
@scamdem1c 2 жыл бұрын
it depends. but as far as I know, there is no evidence for serious long term negative effects, except in special circumstances. you will however, see high LDL & HDL cholesterol, and very low triglycerides. this is a healthy lipid profile. the same as centenarians actually. for active people you need to carb cycle and carb load occasionally, and if you dont, you wont have enough explosive power. this is a problem for low carb diets in general, because fat and protein cant be used to replenish glycogen stores fast enough. carb cycling is needed to remain metabolically flexible, being able to do both sugar burning and fat burning effectively. then during sports events, or a heavy work out, you carb load to quickly replenish glycogen stores. those on high carb diets are usually not as metabolically flexible as low carbers who carb cycle. personally ive been low carb since 2019. i have good endurance and explosive power. good mental performance as well. but when glycogen in the muscles and liver run low, it usually takes a day to recover. when i eat carbs however, i recover quickly within only a few hours. building muscle is also easier when you eat carbs.

@@scamdem1c Do you eat carbs and protein together soon after working out? I tried carb loading last week but after doing 3 days consecutively, I suffered with lower abdominal and groin pains for over 12hours that felt grainy and bloaty. Would you recommend to just carb load on the days of gym training? My intuition tells me yes but I could be wrong. I'm aiming to stick with 50g carb days on non gym days and my mental state from just 2 days of 50-90g of carbs has been drastically improved. I have Aspergers syndrome, so I have to be careful with food as I have neurological sensitivities and the biggest offenders are carbs, sugars and dodgy processed ingredients. I also walk maybe 8 miles a day outdoors with a very physically demanding job so I'm trying to find a way round that so that I have enough mental stability to perform the job with clarity but also enough physical stamina to carry it through as well as dancing 2x a week during the evenings. I know one things however, I have a feeling even sweet potatoes and sausage (probably due to questionable ingredients) cause me to go into sleep "comas" (not literally a coma but a very tired and heavy sluggish feeling that comes with "heavy" eating). I think we do need some carbs from time to time but it is a matter of finding the sweet spot (no pun intended) that pivots nicely with every individual. Perhaps I'm ok up to 90-100 per day and I may need to spread them out during the day as I have a fast metabolism and I'm 10stone in muscle in the between 5'8 - 5'9 category. This is definitely a huge learning curve (in more ways than one for many). PS:I like your you tube name! I concur also about these past 2 years.

@@dancercj1491 i carb load by eating a meal after work outs, ideally when its november or december. so yes, i mix carbs and protein together. id go high carb moderate protein low fat. basically a lean meat + white rice diet. eating just carb and no protein isnt nourishing enough. theres also a different kind of carb loading that most athletes do. thats when they eat some carby snack, before, or after activities. i dont normally do that. its such a bother preparing those sugary snacks and having to bring them with me everywhere. buying snacks would make things convenient, but i dont trust the ingredients. throughout the year, and especially in summer, i almost never carb load. instead i just eat mostly meat, sometimes eggs. high fat, moderate protein, almost zero carb. if i have alot of activities, and i dont carb load, i try to eat more fatty meat the day before. that usually works. idk, if my eating habits would work for others. i guess we just have to try out stuff, and see what works. i am not knowledgeable about aspergers syndrome. my apologies. i cant give much help or advice in regards to that. if carbs give issues, then i recommend removing them, or significantly reducing their intake. dont forget about stuff like sauces & drinks. some have sugar and vegetable oils in them. in the end, it would us ourselves who have to figure out how much carb we can eat. lol, thanks about my youtube name. some agree with it, some dont. haha

Just a note for those reading commnets now. Two phase sleep is antropologicaly normal for humans. In that period in history people would go to sleep by sunset that wake up around 2-3 did some chatting/fun with partner/simple tasks to prep for morning, went back to sleep after about an hour and slept till sunrise. It is beeing seen till now in some native tribes. So this middle of the nigh unsomnia (usualy 2-4 in the night) can just be natural cirkadian rythm coming back. I have it to, I load the washing maschine, fold some laundry,, prep food for morning, back kids backpakcs (with no blue light, dimmed candle like light only) and go to sleep quite nicely afrer.

Why to go this far I don't understand,,watch your food proportions,,,eat lots a veggies ,if you were drinking two cups of coffee a day try to make it one,,, meditating,doing a 20min exercise helps a lot in maintaining stress level which is main reason of over eating and which actually compels our mind to choose wrong food..Please listen to your body don't go after extreme and which is trending if you can't be consistent on it you will only find yourself more demotivated and ull get the results just the opposite.Have faith in yourself be kind and gentle to yourself but also be disciplined if you are following any steps little things matters,,why to directly jump to the extreme? Low carb does not mean "no carb". This is the mistake a lot of people make. No carb diets decreases your serotonin and can make people mentally ill. For people who are serotonin reactive to low carb can spiral into obsessive no carb eating and don't eat properly. Because of this change in mental state, the person is usually unaware of their new mental problem. It is really important that you change your eating habits while being monitored by someone else that can observe any changes in you that you don't see in yourself.

Hello Catherine finally that is talking sense on here, so it saying low carb doesn't mean no carb at all but one can eat some carbs in low quantities? Like how low please help as is kinda confusing where people cut out carbs entirely on low carb but to me sound like no carb but low carb is different
@scamdem1c
@scamdem1c 2 жыл бұрын
never heard of that before. not sure if its true or makes sense. also, there are NO studies that show that no carb diets "decreases serotonin and can make peopIe ill". where is this claim coming from? besides, truly no carb diets dont even exist. its actually impossible to completely eat zero carb all the time, with whole foods. even a zero carb diet isnt actually zero carb. and even if you fast(also zero carb), your body will continue to produce sugar from your fat cells, so you never ever reach a true zero carb state. now lets just assume that you end up with issues being very low carb. then what about humanitys ancestors? based on nitrogen isotope and carbon testing done on prehistoric humans, we see that they were literal hypercarnivores. they should have gotten ill from eating very low carb ryt? why would an ancestral diet, which humanity literally thrived on for over 300,000 years, be bad and make you sick? this doesnt make sense at all. my idea here, is that gluconeogenesis is mostly a demand driven process. you will never EVER reach a truly zero carb state. this is what prevents potential issues when having very low blood sugar levels. also, there are lots of ways to raise serotonin. like for example.... ... eating meat!!

@@Jb-ky1ri how low would depend on each individual. usually however, that would be less than 15%, or 10% carb. keto is generally considered 5% or less. that includes zero carb, less than 1%, which is also ketogenic. exercise also makes a difference. if you exercise, you can eat a bit more carb and still remain in ketosis. theres also your health goals. some want to lose some body fat, some want to gain weight, some want to fix diabetes or cardiovascular disease. some even cancr. some on the other hand are healthy enough, but want to do low carb for even more health benefits. personal preference and willpower also play a role here. how willing are you to eat, or not eat the carbs you want. me personally, i love high-carb fruits especially sweet mangoes and jackfruit, but i dont usually eat them.. i dont remember the last time i ate those things. on the other hand, i eat some herbs and spices in very small amounts. mixed occasionally with meat. those are carbs too. in the end, it will be up to the individual to decide how low carb he wants to go. generally, most folks see more health benefits, the lower carb they go. low carb athletes are a bit different though. after having reaped the benefits of low carb, and being insulin sensitive, a low carb athlete during competition could get some more carbs and would often get a significant power boost. almost like doping but without PEDs lol.

@@Jb-ky1ri You could start with 50g of carbs a day for a keto diet. E.g. 1 serving of vegetable stirfry, no sugar in sauce is around 10g, so you then calculate a further 40g of carbs for the remainder of your meals through the day. Look up Keto recipes and choose which ones you like and just calculate their carb content till you reach 50g. That seems to be the minimu from various experts on Keto. At first it is a lot of research and calculating but you will start to calculate in your head and know the carbs of by heart after a while. Given that people not on a low carb diet consume around 225 and 325 carbs per day, I have heard that 120g a day is a low carb diet, but depending on whether you want to go into ketosis which is like the body shifting gears and using a different source of fuel, fat only. My favourite bread is Bakers Delight, brown and each slice is 18g of carbs. So one sandwich will be 36g and that doesn't include the filling. One problem that I find with desserts for keto, is that people try to substitute flour based foods with almond meal and have way too much and end up feeling terrible. Almond meal is not flour, and should only have one small portion of it a day, like the lemon slice I make where the almond meal is the base instead of flour. With keto recipes you can eat more in a day than if you use flour and grain recipes as they carb content in grain adds up quickly. So it depends on your relationship with food. So much info! Try counting what you normally eat each day for a week without changing your recipes and get an idea of what you have been eating in the way of carbs, in that way you will be more conscious of what you are doing now, keep eating the things you like and perhaps you will only need to modify your habits a bit. Good luck.

@@scamdem1c thanks for that great explanation and talking ur time to explain, my goal is to on low carb to fix cardiovascular issues/blood sugar issues so how much low carb do you think will best to start with? Like am not good at these percentages so if you could just say the amount of carb that will be ok to fix these issues like maybe less than 100g carbs a day or less than 50g carbs a day? And do you think any grain like white rice or oats in small quantities will be allowed on this plan at all or is best to cut grains all together?
