Low Maintenance Food Plots - Annual Clovers

These are all tough questions to answer with one specific plant. But! Annual Clovers are becoming a great option to help answer some of these questions. Although there are many types and some more beneficial than others, blending multiple types can be an answer to all.

Eastern Gamma Grass, usually drilled in seed. Highest Sugar and Protein native grass - the bison fed on. Very Tall when it develops Seed Stem heads.

Perennial and Annual Clovers, some seeds need an innoculant. If left to mature -seed heads will grow next year’s plants. Alfalfa is loved by deer too. Add some agricultural gypsum to help it.

Korean Lespedeza similar to alfalfa, non bloating. Deep Roots - so More Minerals and hardy. Great feed.

Did you terminate the annual rye prior to seed maturation or do you let it go to seed and reseed?

UnRoll bales of Hay in your fields, in the fall. Great - Feed, Seed and eventually great soil improvement mulch and ground cover. Animals will dig thru the snow in winter, to feed on it. **HAT 🎩 TIP - Greg Judy channel

50lbs of crimson, 50 medium red. And 20 ladino in back of truck. 4 acres to do this Friday Saturday

@@Landandlegacytube Ya going to put some buckwheat, oats, millet and brassicas. Maybe a pinch of wheat and rye.

@@Landandlegacytube got 1.5 inches of rain as I was finishing seeding. After your video I did: red clover, crimson clover, ladino clover, beerseem clover, buckwheat, kale, radish, purple top turnips, and chicory. I'll add wheat and rye in 3 weeks. Trying more species than just 1 or 2.

What's the tallest cereal grain but standing and all that Clover got the tall wavy heads on it

Steve Germain cereal rye is the tallest and triticale just below that. Both are great!

Do these 3 clovers provide good forage in the fall a month or 2 after being seeded? I'm curious how much fall growth they get. Also can these be no till drilled?

campt91 - Hard Frost does kill off Clovers. If you let the seeds mature, you’ll have plenty more next. Google the clovers and other forbs. No to seed drill. Use an innoculant w clover seeds
