This is a test of the 100 gr 3 blade Deepower 1.5" Broadhead. It's a new version that's hitting the market in May 2022, sold on Amazon. www.amazon.com...
Here is summary of my 2022 Testing Procedure & Scoring w/ the scores of the Deepower 1.5" posted in parenthesis as well.
Total Deepower 1.5" 100gr Score: 85.09 = 9 Golden Arrows
1. Flight Forgiveness (20%, 15 pts)
This is not just a test of how heads fly out of my bow, as it was in the past. With a well tuned bow, properly built arrows & good form, almost every head flies well. That's why in the past most heads got a flight score of 9 or 10. But that doesn't help those who may not have perfectly tuned bows/arrows/good form. So now I am gauging Flight Forgiveness. This is based on how the head flies for me, how well it spins, how "sensitive" the flight is to imperfections, & the exposed surface area of the blades. The max score of a Mech is 20 & the max score of a Fixed is 16. The Deepower got 15 pts.
2. Cut Size (20%, 17.1 pts)
The more tissue being cut, the more lethal the head, all else equal. The entrance cut, total cut, & width of the cut (a crucial variable for bloodletting) are all scored:
The entrance cut size is compared to a standard of 2.5" then that fraction is weighted to 7% of the score. (2.25" = 6.3 pts)
The max cut size is compared to a standard of 2.5" as well, then that fraction is is weighted to 7% of the score. (2.25" = 6.3 pts)
The max cutting diameter is compared to a standard of 2.0", then that fraction is weighted to 6% of the score. (1.5" = 4.5 pts)
3. Sharpness (20%, 18.5 pts)
Initial sharpness (9%, 150 grs = 10/10= 9 pts ) & Edge Retention (9%, +50 grs = 9/10 = 8.1 pts) are measured using the Edge On Up Sharpness Tester. The pressure needed for a blade to cut thru a copolymer wire is measured in grams.
Edge Retention is the loss of sharpness after the head is shot in Penetration Test 1, thru 1/2" MDF and 2/3" rubber foam mat & Clear Ballistics FBI gel. For every 50 "grams" of sharpness lost, 1 point is deducted from 10.
What are some sharpness scores for common edges?
A butter knife takes 2000 grams of pressure to break the co polymer wire.
A new high end cutlery edge: ~ 375 grams of pressure.
A utility razor blade: 200 grams.
Based on the many broadheads I have tested, here is my scoring scale:
Out of the Box Sharpness:
0-200 gr: 10
201-300 gr 9
301-400 gr: 8
401-500 gr: 7
501-600 gr: 6
601-700 gr: 5
701-800 gr: 4
801-900 gr: 3
901-1000 gr: 2
1001-1100 gr: 1
1101+ gr: 0
Ease to resharpen or replace blades is judged & given 2% of the score. (7/10=1.4 pts)
4. Penetration (20%, 16.59 pts)
There are 3 penetration tests:
Pen Test 1: 1/2" MDF, 2/3" rubber foam mat, Clear Ballistics FBI gel. Depth of penetration is compared to a standard of 9" & weighted to 9% of the score. (6.75" = 6.75 pts)
Pen Test 2: Layered cardboard. # of layers penetrated is compared to a standard of 70 layers & weighted to 9% of the score.
(61 layers= 7.84 pts)
Angled Penetration Test: How effectively does the head penetrate 1/4" MDF covered by carpet at a 45 degree angle. This accounts for 2% of the score. (2/2pts)
5. Durability (20%, 17.9 pts)
Each head is shot thru 1/2" MDF 3 times. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 12% of the score. (12 pts)
If a head survives that, it is then shot thru 22 ga steel plate twice. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 5% of the score. (7/10 = 3.5 pts)
If a head survives that, it is then shot into concrete once. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 3% of the score. (8/10 = 2.4 pts)
Steel plate & concrete are certainly not "realistic" mediums, but they do reveal the outer limits of a head's durability.
BONUS: +1 incredible price
TOTAL SCORE: 86.09 pts = 9 Golden Arrows
Price: $1.67/head (Special Promotion on Amazon now: 12 broadheads for $19.99)

Thanks for sharing that. The biggest challenge with budget heads like these is the quality control. All of the ones I have gotten have been extremely sharp. But I’m sure there will be heads like yours that are not up to that standard. There’s still such a great price, and not too hard to sharpen.

I just recently purchased these broadheads and have only opened the box to examine------haven't shot them yet. At first glance they look very nice. The blades seem thick, nice and sharp. I didn't expect them to be as wide as they are. They sort of look like a QAD Exodus. I'm going to try them later this afternoon out of my crossbow.

John, you're probably right. I've tried a couple of fixed blade heads out of my crossbow and they were all over the place. And these look like they would wind plane. If not, I'll get them dialed in for my Bowtech Solution.

Well, I just came in from trying these broadheads out of my crossbow, My bow is a Barnett Whitetail Hunter Pro that I've had since 2017. It's rated at 380 FPS. Just looking at these broadheads, I thought, they look pretty wide, with that design they'll probably fishtail all over the place. So I took about ten shots at distances from twenty to forty yards. And John, I was amazed. They absolutely flew like darts. My first shot might have been about half an inch low. But after I adjusted my scope I was dead on. And by the way, my arrows are Black Eagle Executioners, 420 to 425 grains. I'll be hunting with these this weekend. And you certainly can't beat the price, $18 bucks for 12!

Just picked these up to try out this year,so far very impressed,thanks for doing these tests, most of the ones you test I would have never even heard of. Also picked up some of the lighted nocks they offer and man for the price they’re great. They fit better than most of the Nocturnals I’ve bought and none of them have turned on when nocking…out of six nocks I’ve only had one give me a problem and that was, the battery came loose on impact and stopped working. Reinstalled battery, but with out glue it will not stay in nock at impact. Besides that, no complaints…especially the price! Thanks again

Thanks for sharing that, Raymond. I've been using those nocks for all my tests and my hunting this season--they've been working great for me. And yeah, they fit better for me too. I often got "loose" fits with Nockturnals, but never with these.

Ok I bought these fixed deep power broadheads at least a year ago (along with the mechanicals and the muzzy trocar knock offs they make) and I ended up returning these because of the 12 heads only 3 or 4 spun true. The mechs have performed well (and so have the muzzy trocar style ones) but I tried to resharpen and reuse the mechs and the blade retention wasn't good enough and it opened in flight and flew like a corkscrew pitch from bugs bunny. One time use only on those but they definitely kill pigs... As for zinger fletches - that is ALL I USE AMAZING PERFORMANCE AND VALUE Simple and easy... love em!

Can you maybe help me please - I bought some 100gr 3 blade fixed broadheads from Amazon 🇨🇳 ( not deepower) and the flight was very erratic. My arrows are 30" 500 spine that came with my Sanlida Dragon X8 & they shoot very accurate with field points but when I screwed on these broadheads I couldn't get smaller than a 8" group at 30 yards and often 18" groups. How accurate should broadheads be, surely better than that? With my field points I can get around 3" or less usually less at 30 yards and at 20 yards sometimes I'm destroying arrows because they're hitting so close together but these my first broadheads were terrible 🤷🏻‍♂️
@LuskArcheryAdventures
@LuskArcheryAdventures Жыл бұрын
For a head like this to fly well, it would need to be on a very well tuned bow and properly spined arrow and shot by someone with great form. With a Dragon X8, I'd suggest you use a mechanical, for optimal flight...like the Sevr 1.75.

Lots of similarities. Exodus have a 1.25" cut and these have a 1.5" cut. So that affects penetration.

I bought a pack of these to play with. They fly great and I got 12 of them for under $20 lol. At that price they are what they are… disposable. The ferrule bends when making any kind of solid impact. At just over a buck apiece they are great but hitting bone or getting a pass through that hits anything in the ground is going to trash the ferrule. But the whole head costs less than even cheap replacement blades and they cut a massive hole. They fly great for me and I’m going to use them. If you can get them to fly I say give them a try. Now the other 1.25 offset 3 blade Deepower makes is awesome. That head is tough and the blades are thick and sharp out of the pack. I touched them up like I do all my heads of a piece of porcelain and they are as sharp as any head on the market. I’m going to use them too.

I think you need to quantify the outside and inside diameters of the cut on metal. The information is useful in predicting the amount of blood trail it can potentially produce in comparison to other broadheads.
@LuskArcheryAdventures
@LuskArcheryAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Well, the actual cuts are the same as the diameter of the broadhead cut...so it's already quantified in that regard. The holes in the steel just show a static view of what it looks like in steel.

I shot a turkey with a rage and super disappointed it didn't expand. Still got bird but not impressed so deep power you're up to bat. I think I've watched all your videos and don't recall any broadhead not passing angled shot. Have you thought of anything else to replace this test in future? Just curious no complaints. Congrats on the new bow hope 2022 puts it to work. Thanks for video.

Yeah, I don't like the angled shot test. I used to do it in the past, then stopped cause almost every head did fine on it. But a lot of people asked for it, so I added it back in. There is one head coming up that had a hard time with it, but that's so rare. Next year, I think I'll skip it.

Hi, Thank's for your videos. I was wondering if they would fly good out of a 340 fps crossbow. They didn't seem to fly as well as other fixed blade heads. There's only so much tuning you can do on a crossbow. I shoot rhe Xbolt by Victory and and have been happy with thier performance. I cant afford to by a bunch of other bolts to try to get them to fly good. I'm shooting A Rage trypan and have great flight out to 40 and beyond although that is my hunting limit. The heads seem to perform well in your tests except for the accuracy and with a crossbow it may get worse. I took alot of whitetall deer with the rage and never had a problem but I'm thinking about a different head for better penetration. I most always get pass thru shots but there has been times I could have took a quartering shot and didn't because of penetration. I would value your opinion. Thank you and hunt safe. Ralph D.

I was wondering if you have taken any animals with them and how they performed. I know each situation is different but your opinion will be valued . I just would like to know if they performed well my crossbow shoots 340 fps ots qnd older Barnett Rogue and still shot great. I've taken alot of deer with it with a rage broadhead I haven't had any problems with the head except for penetration that could ne better. I hunt near an urban area and I want to make sure. I get complete pass thru and the best blood trail with quick killing for the sale of being humane and for the animal to expire quick. Since they fly well and my shots are limited to 30 Yards. I know I can make an ethical clean kill. I am always worried I will get a failure with mechanical broadheads that is why I want to go back to fixed blade heads.Thank you for your informative videos good luck in your hunts and stay safe. I use Blazers, but also FOBS and Zinger Vanes at times. In this vid I had Zingers on for some of the shots.

It's all about your bow's tune, honestly. A large cutting fixed head like this will expose even the slightest imperfections in your tune, arrow set up, or grip/form.

@LuskArcheryAdventures yeah I think after this season I'll have to have both my bows restrung and tuned I'd like to move to fixed blades but I'll stick to schwacker and rage hypodermic for now

Well, there are some similarities, but also a lot of differences in the blade design, tip, and cutting diameter.
