Low stuck in the NZ area all week & weekend (maybe next week too)

A large low will remain over the Tasman Sea this week before moving back over New Zealand this coming weekend.
The low is expected to gradually weaken this week but may energise again on Saturday and Sunday as it moves back in.
Long range modelling suggests it may remain over the country (or near us) next week too.
We explain why the low is stuck here and what it means for rain, snow and sunshine in our country.

Thanks for explaining everything so clearly and for giving us an indication of what's likely to happen right through to the end of the week. Weather Watch is the best forecast available in my opinion. Thank you and keep up the great work!

Hi Phil, been watching your forcasts for quite a while now and usually very accurate. However the last two fronts that have gone over us here in the far north have delivered 60mm and 50mm more rain than forcast. No problem as we have been farming here for over 50 years and can predict our precipitation very well, using your maps and watching the river for flooding on the flats and moving stock when necessary. Keep up the good work👍 .

Thanks for the update Julie - and the kind words. Yes this entire system is going to continue to produce pockets of rain heavier than forecast. The warmer airflows for the north have certainly been contributing to that!

do you think we're going to have a snowy winter this year after all this messiness clears up?
@WeatherWatchTV
@WeatherWatchTV Ай бұрын
Think there should be some good chances - but whether it's enough for all the ski fields is still an issue sadly. But hopefully the added moisture this winter should be a bonus.

@@AHD2105 Oh sorry, misread your comment - if you go to our RuralWeather.co.nz scroll halfway down the page and Daily Data has hourly (and current) barometric pressure. High pressure is increasing around NZ at the moment despite the nearby low.

Gosh Invercargill people moan the most to me about not being mentioned and yet on average I mention Southland more than Auckland. You know our website has hourly, 10 day forecasts for Invercargill for free with more data than the two Government forecasters you pay for, right?
