This is actualy one of my favorite Seasons of Teen Titans. What I liked about this season is that it had episodes that actualy helps not just kids, but also teens and adults reflect the character troubles, emotions, struggles, etc. on themselves. Because we as people have gone through with similiar things; depression, fear of being close to people, supressing our own emotions, etc. This is what makes Teen Titans such a great show, it has great characters that are relatable to a lot of people in the real world. Especialy to those who have been treated badlly AKA bullied, because they are different from others.

Terra is amazing and the way they showed her make you really sympathize with beast boy who only wants to protect her and make her feel accepted and become their friend. The fact that they made such a great job with her here is season 2 is what makes the series finale such a painful episode, in a good way.

I don't see the Bonus Final episode as painful, I see it as the 1st episode of a 6th Season that never happened. I would have liked to see more of Terra in her new life & learn how she ended up getting this chance to feel normal. You may not have liked Date With Destiny, but I was a 10-year-old girl when I first saw it and its still my favourite episode to this day. While its true that not every girl enjoys the girly/romance stuff, it is always a huge part of every cartoon's demographic. And yet, I constantly see criticism of shows for adding it in. The 'RobStar' ship is one of the backbones of Teen Titans, and while there are several episodes that handle their romance in a better and more mature way down the road, you just gotta accept that there are people out there in the world who dig the flowers and hearts and cheesy prom plotlines. And I personally have a huge respect for any creator who doesn't ignore that chunk of their audience. Anyway, loving this series, TT is my favourite cartoon of all time, can't wait to see further videos!

Well said & Kitten was actually a great villain. She knew she was hurting Starfire emotionally & enjoyed every second of it. That moment when she was revealed to have the remote was great, & I agree that the concept of the lead hero taking a villainous teenage girl to prom was a great change of pace. Also don't forget that we're introduced to Starfire's pet in that episode.

while your interpretation of why Robin became Nightwing is very interesting and ties into the show a lot more, I'm pretty sure this is just a comic book reference of how Dick Grayson (which is Robin's secret identity that nobody mentions in the show), after finishing his sidekick days with Batman, becomes a superhero by his own. I wonder if they still thought like you said though.

I'm thinking they had to, considering how so many of the camera angles and how similar the shot composition is in that scene and some of Slade's. I feel like sometimes when reviewers critique things for being 'cliche' or 'predictable' they need to remember the audience. This was the season where Teen Titans truly became an awesome show. Season 2 greatly improved upon Season 1's shortcomings with the Terra arc and the in-between episodes were really solid for the most part. I recently read the original story this season's arc is inspired by, "The Judas Contract" (in general, I've been reading the comic series the show based itself on, The New Teen Titans). While the show handled the story much differently than the comic did (the comic version was actually a much darker story by comparison), I still really like what they did in the show's version. I like how they made Terra a much more sympathetic character here than in the comics, since I feel that it makes her actions later in the season all the more impactful.

Terra really is one of if not THE best character of the show. It's brilliant anyway but her episodes moves the plot along really nicely and gave a very cool buildup for season 6 (which, I mean. bittersweet) that they definitely wouldn't have achieved without her, at least not as easily. I always had a love/hate relationship with her bc I both ADORED her and found her really annoying as a kid, and growing up I always got annoyed with myself when trying to make sense of how I felt about her, but I think that's what makes her so great. She could've so easily been made into a cliché and they managed to avoid that by giving her actual RELATABLE flaws, solid, /realistic/ relationships with these people who she really only just met and a spot on storyline. 10 year old me was SHOOK and I could literally talk about her all day. Loving this series btw! Subscribed & excited for the next part :)

Ida Stjerndorff For me, I think they did a really incredible job crafting her dynamics with the team, especially with her relationship with Beast Boy and her understandable draw to Slade because he gave her the control she wanted. However, I always felt like Terra herself was kinda lacking in personality, or at least consistent personality. I just couldn't pin down what kind of person she was, other than insecure, but that's more like her motivation behind her actions. Especially compared to the well defined and even extreme personalities of the other team members, her personality is kinda dull. Minor nit pick and it certainly doesn't' ruin the character, but something I noticed.
@bunsmasterbunny
@bunsmasterbunny 6 жыл бұрын
Her personality is the one she shows when she's with the team in her first episode and when she's having fun with Beast Boy in Betrayal. That's how she really is when she's free of her insecurities. She's a more emotionally stable version of that in Things Change.

And I LOVE How Long is Forever (mainly because I love when shows go into alternate universes, possible futures and things like that) and it shows just important their friendship is. The spirit things feels kinda stupid. The human vs machine theme was explored better in the episode with atlas and his whole arc with blood was annoying and not really necessary. It ended with the same message we have seen before: Cyborg is still human and his humanity will always win. It could have lasted for a two-parter but not the whole season. S3 could have focused more on Starfire and her rivalry with her sister or the aliens who captured her.

Tao Jones T.jones I enjoyed Blood as a villain and Cyborg deciphering what he wanted in life. He thought he needed to be a leader to prove himself, but he needed to know who he was to accomplish that. I gotta say, the whole scene where he rebuilds his suit almost magically is just weird and they brush it off as a one time thing. All in all, not bad tho. However I do agree. It would have been nice to see more on Starfire.

my experience with this series has some similarities to yours. i started watching it when i was a young kid at about 7 years old when it first aired. i was very excited for it but since it was tv i wasn't able to watch it consistently and i missed most of the episodes. altogether back then i probably watched about 10 or so episodes. i was able and decided to watch the full series when i was about 15 years old from start to finish. (no spoilers) the final episode of the series "things change" absolutely traumatized me. i was dead for weeks. i just couldn't accept that it was over and had such an ending..... it was such a painful and shattering experience for me..... then a couple years later more or less i'm on my local anime/cartoon website and see a new episode listing for "Teen Titans Go: Episode 1". i was so excited i almost cried. when i hit that play button and saw what it was i almost choked to dead on my tonsil.

I'm honestly excited for more of these as it's been a long time since I've watched this series. I remember being almost completely heartbroken at the end of Terra. The thing is, I can relate in a lot of ways to beast boy in that episode. I've never been the time to have a lot of emotional baggage which has allowed me to try and help other people with theirs. I've had a lot of friends with similar deep-seeded trust issues who suffer from depression and anxiety and looking back at "Terra"... I begin to realize just how real it all is. I've had those same conversations where, if only for a time, I become my friend's greatest enemy. It's all in their head, but it's BECAUSE it's all in their head that it's so terrible. I try to say something kind but it gets misinterpreted resulting in my friend either exploding in rage, or falling apart in tears. I feel like that's exactly how BB feels in that episode. He truly cares about Terra as a friend and wants to help her. He wants to show her that he trusts her and will be there for her even at her worst... except when her anxieties and fears get in the way... she runs and his best can't reach her. I appreciate this episode so much for that, for just how well it lets you relate to the characters if you've been in a similar situation. I don't really know what else to say about it, but yeah... I really liked that episode xD

In an era where so many people's response to criticism is to double down and argue, it's refreshing to know that you are someone who truly seeks to use this format as a dialogue and rationalize with the other side. I had missed exactly what you had missed, and because you took the time to address those comments, we both have better understanding and appreciation for the show. One cool tidbit about the first episode of season 2 is that in the future, Raven is wearing a white cloak, implying that she no longer splits up her emotions. That combined with the fact that the world isn't a hellscape, means that the titans still beat Trigon even without Starfire. But Raven went batshit crazy so things didn't really turn out too good in the end anyways

Dude this series is fucking fantastic. I can't believe it's so not-talked-about. It has some of the most impressive stand-out episodes of any series I've ever watched - "Fear Itself," "Haunted," "The End," "Calling All Titans." It went above and beyond being an action show. The main cast was so dynamic and fleshed out that any lesson explored in an episode's plot felt like it *belonged* to them; it wasn't just a "save the day" series. It really reminds me of Avatar, the way the characters are always growing, always bettering themselves, always kicking ass despite failures, setbacks, new enemies, betrayals, self-doubt. The show was really just beautifully made and it is an exemplification of successful story-telling animation. Enjoy the upcoming seasons, they're a blast.

Outta all the Titans, I sympathized with Beast Boy the most. I know how hard it is to be the underrated member of the team, and how no one takes him seriously because of his immature jokes and humor, but we as an audience already know that it’s a mask for the pain and hardships that he went through in his life (if you’ve read the comics or his character biography). His powers might not be taken too seriously because of his comic relief character, but he can really do some serious damage if he puts his mind to it. That’s why I liked seeing him progress throughout the show and how much the team realizes that they need him in “Things Change”. BTW, if the Season 6 rumors are true, how would you feel if, just like in the comics, they went ahead with the BBRae ship?
@MetaITurtle
@MetaITurtle 6 жыл бұрын
William Colon - I like beastboy for those reasons too. I thought Tera wasnt really a fit for him becuase she betrayed the Titans when all they did was take care of her. Raven has love for her team and wouldn't do that. I think she would be a good match for him. Opposites do attract and they fit that very well.
@williamcolon4070
@williamcolon4070 6 жыл бұрын
Nigel 1990 In the “Betrayal” episode, yes, Terra DID sell out her team because Slade commanded it, but she genuinely cared about Beast Boy since her first appearance, and he was the only one she depended on. As soon as he turned his back after learning the truth, that was officially it, there was nothing else for her then but her loyalty to Slade. Their relationship was written much better than the original comics, and had a more emotional tone that I truly enjoyed watching, which is why Season 2 is my favorite TT season.

Season 2 is, in my opinion, one of the better seasons of Teen Titans. I'm looking at the episode list and I don't think it needs the restructuring that I gave season 1 previously. While I do have a complaint in the execution of the season's arc regarding Terra, it's not relevant to the episodes that you discussed, and instead is relevant to the episodes in the second half of the season that you will presumably be covering next time. Something cool that I want to point out that is related to these episodes though, is that season 2 had two episodes written by Dwayne McDuffie, one being in the second half of the season ("Winner Take All") and the other being the fantastically written "Fear Itself". Dwayne McDuffie is a legend in the comic book industry, best known for creating Milestone Comics, a brand focused on promoting minority characters that was later bought out by DC Comics best known for the creation of Static Shock. He also worked on the television side of the industry, being one of the writers and producers for Justice League Unlimited and later Ben 10 Alien Force/Ultimate Alien. McDuffie died young two years after being fired from DC Comics due to speaking with fans about creative differences he had with the company, but he has been honored with the high school in Static Shock being renamed after him and an award named after him for celebrating diversity in comics. I always love seeing comic book writers working in comic book adaptations and getting the chance to gush about McDuffie is not something that I'm going to pass up, so I hope you enjoyed the trivia.

This is my first youtube comment in years ; just want to let you know that I love this series! As others are saying this was my favorite show growing up and it's so cool seeing a critical retrospective from a more adult point of view. It's dope how you respond to and engage with the audience at the beginnings of your videos and how all your points and criticisms have logical arguments. I never noticed how season 2 played around with genres so much (genre hopping with a core of solid characters is what makes shows like community so great); it's given me an even greater appreciation for the show makers. I really like how you come back each episode with a greater understanding than what you previously expressed. Having an open mind like that is a great quality to exist within a human creature, Lowart-sama. It's also quite satisfying to watch, especially considering there are loads of people out there who just lob shallow criticism at anything they dislike and refuse to look any deeper beyond their own stubborn conclusions. It's good to see the process of someone coming to understand what an awesome show has to offer. That's something I think will always make for a strong and committed audience for your work. The Terra arcs were the ones that hit the hardest for me. And then that travesty Teen Titans Go completely bastardized her character...
@bunsmasterbunny
@bunsmasterbunny 6 жыл бұрын
Going to be honest here but TTG's portrayal isn't that bad for the kind of show it's going on. If you know the original version of the Terra character from the comics you might be less upset. Honestly, Teen Titans Go isn't that bad. It's not good but it's not a terrible show (for the most part) either. It doesn't effect the legacy of this show so there's no need to be mad at it for bordering on self parody.
@darken2417
@darken2417 6 жыл бұрын
@TheZeldaExperienceWithin Well considering this is an adaption of the show and not of the comics there is still reason to be upset. Terra was frozen in stone and there was a very heartfelt promise to revive her one day. Teen Titan's Go brought her back but killed every emotional beat her story had by making her just some other villain. The existence of Teen Titans Go has all but killed our chances of seeing a proper Teen Titans show as well as led the network down a path of making more shows in this style. As an example; Thundercats(2011) was cancelled when this corporate shift was in full swing. And now the show that was beautifully done is never coming back and now they also twisted and warped this brand by giving us what I like to call Soy Cats; Thundercats Roar. I dislike seeing great potential be destroyed in favor of mediocrity.
@ben3634

Darken De la Espada teen titans go is a completely different show from teen titans so just view Terra on TTG as a parody. TTG will probably have a season 6 soon and we’ll be seeing a proper story for Terra
@bunsmasterbunny
@bunsmasterbunny 6 жыл бұрын
Terra shouldn't be in a season 6. Her story ended perfectly with Things Change. She's alive and has mastered control of her powers but has chosen to not use them anymore so she can live a normal life. It's clear from her dialogue and expressions that she does remember Beast Boy and the others but she's choosing to deny it to help Beast Boy accept that she can't go back to that life. If you notice during that episode (When he asks her for pizza) she's shown laughing and smiling and just having a good time around him. It looks like things could still work out. But then he says this "You haven't changed a bit Terra". That's an instant turn off for her because he's telling her that she's no different from how she was when she was miserable (Things were never the way you remember them) and because of that she distances herself from him. In the end he's left with a choice. Does he hold on to the memories of the girl he knew (Things Change Beast Boy. The girl you want me to be is just a memory) and deny who she is now, or does he accept her for who she's become? Beast Boy has to either accept Terra as she is now for any hope of a relationship with her, or he has to let her go so they can both have closure and be happy. He's unable to do the former because he loves her so much, so he does the latter. It's a very bittersweet and mature ending and it shouldn't have any follow up. It also ties the show ending into the characters relationships perfectly by having Beast Boy let go of his memories of the past and move on with his life. This is what the show was wanting the audience to do for itself. Accept the show is ending, accept that things change, and move on with your life. This is why there shouldn't be a season 6.

It's possible for individual episodes to be good or bad, but the central question isn't being answered. Characterization is not story telling. It creates an emotional bond but doesn't create a narrative. Every episode has the characters learning the same PSA, young adult "lessons" but in different ways every time. They can all be summed up as: Vic: be yourself, accept what's out of your control Dick: work together with your friends, you can't solo everything Garfield: fame is a fickle friend Rachel: let your feeling flow (disregarding why it's important that she HAS to do this. Trigon.) Kory: your friends love you No deeper themes like responsibility, leadership, or hatred are ever posited. The Titans are right because they're all paragons. Any infighting is either short lived or trivial. I encourage you and everybody else to watch Young Justice and she that not only are the characters portrayed in character, but it very clearly follows a plot that weaves character arcs into its narrative. Not the other way around.

TheZeldaExperienceWithin You're right. Young justice differs only in that there is a literal "Light" attached to everything. But only that it is connected, it does not make the majority of episodes more necessary to a basic plot. Not to mention the fact that Teen Titans did a better job of uncovering characters and tying them.
@cunnyman
@cunnyman 6 жыл бұрын
It's a kid show that is aimed towards kids so PSA episodes is the best thing. Young Justice is aimed towards the grown up Teen Titans fan given its more matured settings and consequences and its time gap from Teen Titans. Also, there's no way to say something is better than something because you don't really like it. A lot of people enjoy the more fun-oriented Teen Titans than the one that consistently tries to remind people of responsibilities.

I find it extremely impressive and inspirational that you were willing to discuss with us how how your opinion changed after taking into consideration a different perspective. Opinions are always changing, evolving, and being influenced by new experiences and perspectives. Critics and analyzers are often expected (by both their audience and themselves) to lock down their opinions but such an approach in not realistic or fair. No one stays the same as they move through life and our opinions reflect that growth. We are humans and humans changes as we learn more and reflect. I started watching this hoping for a review that would make me want to rewatch it or never again. But this review series is much more than that. I will be rewatching it but not until you finish your narrative. Great work

I had to pause around the 1:50 mark. I've never seen someone taking criticism so nicely as you did with the Episode 5 comments. If I wasn't subscribed I'd instantly do it because you not only were mature about the situation but this only proves even more how engaged you are with this review series/the show. My most honest props to you man.
