Hope there's many more sportster builds to come. They are great to watch. Sorry, but I'm a stickler for detail and kind of a perfectionist. Lol. Your brake rotors are directional and you put one on one way and one the other.
@silveracer9
@silveracer9 Жыл бұрын
It's the first thing that I see. I'm not crazy about directional rotors anyway. I changed mine out for a set with just holes, no slots or direction. As minor as that seems, it made a huge difference at least to my eye.

Great series! But there’s a big problem for those of us trying to do this on the cheap: Lifted shocks will cause the rear axle nut to collide with the stock exhaust. If there’s any way possible to address this issue for those of us who don’t want to shell out bucks for the hooligan exhaust, please let us know! Also, any lower cost alternatives for lift without those particular fancy expensive shocks would be appreciated also.

I'm starting to think I don't use enough loctite. I've never actually used it. I don't have a Harley, but I'm guessing it's good to use on all bikes when it comes to certain critical bolts. I guess I should also start putting anti-seize on my axles. I normally just put a thin layer of grease on it, even with sealed bearings.

@lowbrowcustoms
@lowbrowcustoms 2 жыл бұрын
These are closed bearings on this year model. If you have normal bearings that need grease then that’s correct use high temp grease. But if you have closed bearings, never seize is better from keeping your axle from getting stuck.

Hey Todd and guys! how are you? quick question, what should be the tolerance upon everything is ensambled? I´m trying to change my rear tire on a 2002 FXDWG but so far my closest tolerance is .058" on the pulley side (large spacer) ! As a new whrench monkey this freaksm me out due my lack of knowlege (even with the maintenance manual, the instructions on how to change the rear tire sucks!!). Besides this, what are the sizes of both spacers? I´m asking this because mines are 41 mm and 18 mm, since I don´t kwow if they´re originals I´m considering very seriuosly to change them! Thank you very much for your time and my best regards from Mexico! Paco.

I'm wondering how the powder coating managed to stay on when the tires were put on. Special tire spoons/levers or a special bar for the busting machine? I know nothing about the durability of powder coating. Those wheels are badass tho.
@cfcasazza
@cfcasazza 2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure that procedure is correct for tightening the front wheel. I think you should not tighten the pinch bolt until the axle nut is tight. Instead use a big punch in the axle hole on the opposite side to keep axle from turning while you tighten the nut. Then tighten the pinch bolt.
@lowbrowcustoms
@lowbrowcustoms 2 жыл бұрын
Many ways to skin a cat, todd does it this way because it insures the axle finds its happy place and the nut torques correctly.
@dsbyrd918
@dsbyrd918 2 жыл бұрын
I was going to say the same thing. I've always heard to torque the axle first because if the pinch bolt is tight it'll pull the fork legs together
