Are you wondering whether you should stay in Lower Sabie rest camp in the Kruger National Park? In this video I share my thoughts on this extremely popular rest camp, situated in the south-eastern tip of the Kruger National Park.
Personally I find Lower Sabie to be way too large and busy, lacking atmosphere and character. Having said that, it does have a fabulous view over the Sabie River and it's located in one of the best game viewing areas in the whole Kruger National Park. I therefore come here not for the camp itself, but rather to stay in an area that will give me a great opportunity to spot animals.

I’ve been in the Kruger more times than I can remember, I’ve stayed in most camps several times, and I must have seen all animals larger than a big dog (yes, roan, sable, eland too). But I still find your generalisations quite helpful when planning itineraries. Or simply to get psyched up for the next trip.

Love your safari video's. Keep up the good work. Are all safari tents in Lower Sabie camp new tents or is it still a mix of new tents and the really old rundown tents?

There’s one called Lake Panic near Skukuza, but it’s not eye-level. It is, however, great for bird photography

Which camp do YOU prefer? That ticks all the boxes. Iv only ever stayed at berg n del which was amazing but want to try a different 1 something similar to berg n del

No single camp ticks all the boxes for me, but I would say my favourites are Berg-en-Dal, Lower-Sabie, Satara and Shingwedzi.

Hi Lydia. It all depends on when they last got stock. I would take my own meat and veg if I were you. The shop is relatively expensive.

I have a question. So to my knowledge, skukuza was known as Sabie Sands and it was the only rest camp at its time. When did lower sabie come into existence
