This warning from 'The Anti-Cobbett or The Weekly Patriotic Paper' from 15 March 1817 warns Manchester labourers not to march on London to present a petition to the Prince Regent highlighting the desperate state of the textile industry and protesting the recent suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act.
This pro-establishment article is a good example of how 'loyalist' publications sought to divide protesters and discredit radical leaders. In this case it failed and thousands set off for London on 10 March in what became known at the March of the Blanketeers.
