Food for thought. In terms of raw numbers, a control ward that exclusively clears 2 wards gives it value. The caveat is whether a player with a sweeper is coming through, or its likely to go on cooldown when the enemy team re-wards important areas. What defines an "important area" is relative to the champions in the game, but lets get more fundamental. Whats the point of vision? It places an enemy champion on a specific point in the map, reveals their current items, possibly catch them using a crucial ability that can be taken advantage of. Regular wards offer this, and are invisible, but they expire, and can be destroyed in 3 or 1 hit (considering umbral glaive or chemtech scryers). Control wards are not invisible but take longer to destroy, and again depending on the champions in the game if they have fast auto resets or high attack speed then that point can be irrelevant. Back to the point about exact enemy location though, if you dont see an enemy, you can still know where they are, and this works both ways. If theres a dragon fight and you're blue side, and lost control of the river, you can guess the enemy has 5 players in the river or the pit, probably 1 in the pixel brush that will get bullied out if 5 players approach, again subject to variation if its a 25 stack mejai diana vs 5 flashless Miss Fortunes, but as the team enters towards the pit, player vision is all thats needed, and as such, theres no reason to buy control wards if you're red team.... EXCEPT, if theres threat of a flank. The Control ward can then clear the ward they would use, or see the flank coming and that champion needs to spend time clearing the ward, or is focussed on the players that they dont even see the ward, or walk past the bush with the ward inside it. Again this can be achieved with regular wards however. Outside of this context they can be useful at baiting for a pick on whoever tries to clear them, which is contingent on having champions that can effectively collapse on them, and for those champions to be effective in the area. An ashe arrows from halfway across the map has more or less as much effect as an Elise within 2 E ranges. The alternative for the player trying to clear the ward is to run away, as they probably should if theyre in such a position considering the gamestate... So it seems to me in the grand scheme of things that a control ward fills the role of being a perpetual sweeping lens which gets value out of showing 2 wards to get cleared, and to prevent surprise flanking, which is to say that theyre useful in spots where trinkets are necessary for elsewhere. One niche scenario i can think of is when a champion or multiple champions with blue or red trinket are fighting an enemy champion that uses bushes and the bush needs to be warded or things get more difficult. Personally i subscribe to the "one and done" method of placing a control ward behind the frontline of the map. By default this would be one layer of bushes behind the river, obviously depending on champions and winning/losing matchups that changes, and changes further if youre head or behind. Buying control wards when behind is a trap, you lose gold, and have so little control of where youre allowed to be on the map that you jsut end up offering the enemy team a net gain of 100gold with each purchase, gold that you need as a team thats behind for items for fights that you need to take such as baron or dragon soul. There is anothere niche scenario again where it can be used to bait an over-extension of a team thats ahead and get critical shutdown gold, but depending on the level of play (which looking at current pro play we're still not there yet) hoping for a mistake of the enemy on something so simple is more often than not just going to be bad odds, which then comes into the point of "if the game is a 90% chance to lose, and you have the opportunity to take a 50-50, then take it". However you have to then weigh up a net loss of 100gold with the control ward in exchange for a shutdown kill of 300+ gold, vs 100gold of potential item stats for later fights. Conversely if your team is ahead id say control wards have more value since its easier to jump on overextention of the defending team, and it prevents sneaking jungle camps, however with good macro to not get 5 man fiddle ulted over a wall like a bunch of morons this is kind of irrelevant.

Really cool video to watch. I've played on and off for over 10 years, and especially the point on where the mouse is, is something that I think I subconsciously picked up on when the game was in a slower pace but not on a conscious level. The point on wards also hit home too as an over-pink enjoyer xD That's even going beyond the layering things, which definetely curb a bit of the overaggressive style where "I have to do everything at all points in time" I've always enjoyed misdirecting by facing my champion away in order to throw skillshots behind me where I "wasn't paying attention" so it's nice to know that exists on an even deeper level. Really makes me want to start playing again; although I'd have to adapt to the the more measured modern style. Super interesting watch. Would be interested what his advice is for more analytical styles, probably just basics basics basics, but I've always had two styles so it's been hard to ever manage them...

Regarding the comments about vision, I think on assassin champions like zoe(especially zoe), zed, talon, qiyana any vision is good vision (assuming of course enemy team are likely to walk through it) for pick opportunities regardless of how ahead you are and to minimize you or your team getting caught. Even in the case of control wards, zoe can contest them over walls which creates space. Please correct me if I'm wrong. My reason in saying this is, even if we are ahead or even, playing without vision feels incredibly constrictive at least on zoe especially since she can be punished very easily if positioned incorrectly
@MrMrtvozornik
@MrMrtvozornik Жыл бұрын
True but also in solid half of the times you should extrapolate where their vision or potential vision is depending on movement of their support, in which case sweeper does just as much even more than a pink. Also, as long as there's reason, LS isnt against it. Ofc if you play a poke champ like Varus and you prep for drake extra pink can go long way to completely darken out your projectiles making them harder to dodge.

Don't control wards have a purpose there? While the enemy might know that you are on dragon anyway, they don't know the exact position of every champ in the pit and who exactly is in the pit, enabling someone of your team to flank maybe. Also, if you don't have to use sweeper to clear the pit, you can use it afterwards to clear the jungle, right? Im not a high level player but I feel like in that case a control-ward is good. (referring to 17:50 and the following dragon fight)
@deejaydee1578

This is the problem that LS identifies. If you don't have a specifc spot or plan to use that ward, you will autopilot chuck it in a random shit spot, and waste that gold. If you can make more value than 75 gold for every control ward you by then you should buy it every time, but very little people, even pros, know exactly how to use it well

@@emptyptr9401 He has sweeper and can clear the pit of wards. If they drag the dragon out of pit, any further wards that they put from behind pit would not spot the dragon even without the pink ward. If they decide to fight them in river, not having vision wouldn't affect that decision. I.e buying a pink ward serves no purpose there.

Cool educational content but man do I feel bad for people getting coached. I feel like it'd be relevant to point out what the person is doing good too more often, like it just feels like a non-stop wave of negative stuff so it must be lowkey exhausting to get coached like this, saying this as someone who received lots of coaching and who's completely aware that you need to question yourself and be ready to accept critic in a coaching session. I feel like it's your responsability as a coachto not make the person feel like they're doing everything wrong but maybe that's just me. Obviously you're not THAT negative and you're even weaving jokes and all so it's all good but it was just a thought, thanks for sharing coaching for free and much love :)

I've never seen him actually overhead piloting someone where the mentee is responsive and ls doesnt have to try to put a leash around his neck and reign his behavior.

He refuses to coach low elo. Also according to his audience he shouldn't be coaching gm cause he's only diamond. Same standards, complain with those who set them very loudly on other channels.

@@AmisThysia I mean part of that is ls in patience and desire for control. He has to accept the individuality of the other person and let him learn on his terms. With these high elo vets it's already been established they're dumb and you're here to undo their bad habits. And we can see how it didnt work with max Waldo of he trained a yes man clone of himself and we get videos of ls making fun of c9 drafts as if his protege learned nothing. You cant make a good type b player who just gets data downloaded into his brain by you. You have to seed him on the right path and then let him develop on his own. Like if ls solves that missing piece combined with his game knowledge he could be a talent cultivator on a level the worlds never seen. And it needs to be someone like him. You cant erase player individuality without making them mediocre bots at the same time. Not liking the debate is likely childhood trauma and given his family dysfunction and his obsession with being right and accurate and not being misinterpreted well, nuff said. If its right the ideas stand. If the player isnt sure or disagrees "try it and find out". Othereise u end up with brain dead bots or locked in an ego pushing match. if a player is paying to argue then smile and laugh because hed paying to argue and not to improve, but you gotta respect their intelligence to not just look at them as some lemming with no sentience.

You'll be surprised to find out generally not a single coach is better than their players in Pro League (maybe Nukeduck ~ Bjergsen) Are Grabbz, Dylan Falco, Yamato etc. trash because they dont play better than their players?
