You got a video on that pickup? Wow

Haha no I don't think so. Ol hips has been a great truck man. Daily drove it for ten years up until recently now it only gets used for work- towing trailers, hauling camper, hauling firewood

@@roncook8566 Are you happy or surprised with the power? Do you have plans to hot rod the engine a little after everything is sorted out?
@roncook85663 жыл бұрын
Yeah the power is pretty good considering it's still running on the factory truck tune. You could definitely tell that with some tuning it would run much better it was very confused lol. And yes I planned on at least doing a mild cam in the near future. I have several 6.0s in the garage too so that's another option in the future if I wanted more power

Nice job looks fun I'm doing a starcraft starchief over, wanting same motor set up one day. Has an old iron duke mercruiser 190 hp. Have to settle. Great looking boat you have.

That’s a good looking 4x4 square body w/hips you got there too! I’ve had 2 half tons and one 3/4 ton square body and I kick myself for selling them when I was in my early 20s….just HAD to have a new one at the time!

As far as your cooling system goes, Your water restriction is in the wrong place.. You said it's just after the water pump. That's not what you want to do.. You want the entire water system under pressure you need to place your restriction After the exhaust manifolds some place just before where the water goes overboard. You need to slow down the volume of water moving through the cooling system, give the water time to remove the heat from the block and exhaust manifolds.
@roncook85662 жыл бұрын
Like I said in the video the entire system needed re routed at this point, and it has been. I originally had two gate valves after the engine, and I ended up putting them back on to restrict it just before the risers. I found out later that even with those valves almost all the way closed I still couldn't get even 100 degrees water temp. I'm not having a problem removing heat, I'm having a problem getting the engine to run any hotter than lake water temp. I ended up reinstalling a valve right at the pump and slowing it down ahead of everything to finally get some temperature
@roncook85662 жыл бұрын
There's a big debate about it. Most people have thermostat housings so they run a restrictor plate to build pressure in the engine to keep air bubbles out. But most use a gate valve right at the pump to regulate temperature

Looks awesome! I have the identical boat and have been thinking of doing this to it. At this point how much money do you have into it?
@roncook85663 жыл бұрын
Probably $3-4kish altogether?
@robertnorthrup19142 жыл бұрын
Interesting you kept steering on right side. Most if not all jet boats steer from left. So how doesn’t it handle with engine torque? No foot pedal?
@roncook85662 жыл бұрын
Yeah most are left hand steer because they have a gas pedal and they need room on the floor for it. I'm not a fan of gas pedals I like to set the throttle and cruise. My other jet boat a '78 Cobra jet also steers from the right with a hand throttle

Wow that Starcraft looks amazing. How fast do you think you were going?
@roncook85663 жыл бұрын
I probably kept it under 45 mph. The bottom of the boat needs some more work before i try to get crazy with it
@fortnoxz712 жыл бұрын
What rpm and gps speeds are you getting??
@roncook85662 жыл бұрын
No idea yet the bottom needs a bunch of work, the engine needs tuned and the pump needs a wear ring. Haven't ran it past 50 mph. We'll find out next summer

How fast does it go?

Don't know yet haven't ran it past 50 mph. I'll find out probably next season after the bottom gets finished, engine gets tuned and the pump gets rebuilt
