History is very very and very much important. Life without history is like a tree without roots it can not stand. History was intentionally taking out of Nigerian schools system. Thank you sir for this great history lesson. JMO

The first coup in January 1966,was not an Igbo coup but a Revolution headed by Major Kaduna Nzeogwu. He was a national hero, whose intention was to introduce a new social order that would purge the ills of the country and restored peace.I have written a new book titled The Nigerian civil War 1967to1970.I participated in the War and I stayed in the trench for 20 months fighting day and night.Iam ready to be interviewed by you any time.

The coup is dubbed “ one sided” because innocent people who were not dramatis persone in the crisis that the coup was staged to address were not killed. Haba ! So ,In order to do justice in Nigeria, the innocent must be punished with the culprits to make the relatives of the culprits sufficiently assuaged. Ohhh! What a country.

Edmund, Ojukwu did not declare the war. He declared independence for Biafra and Nigeria decided to launch a genocide against the young country. Please check out General Madiebo’s interview wherein he said that they never knew or believed that Nigeria would launch a war to massacre them. Unfortunately, he did not expatiate on this.

This man is too old to remember most of the questions asked. Banjo was never part of the coup plotters, he was senior to the plotters but a good friend of Ojukwu and of same rank as him. Adewale Ademoyega was part of them and that makes it not an Igbo coup, but revolutionary group coup

There is no way you could exonarate ethnicity complexity, especially igbo in the coup. the events that followed laid credence to Igbo complexity for non of igbos politoicians were killed, the jubilation of the igbos in the north, supreme power were in hand igbos and introduction of unitary of government with believe that they would be in power for life since. These and more provoked the northerner officers that made them to struck at the counter coup.

@@omoyelesheriff2925 you absolutely have no proofs of igbos jubilations in the north. No igbo politician was among the corrupt politicians except zik who only him knows why he travelled at that time. And the introduction of the unitary system at that time doesn't proof it was for hold of power.

PA Ajayi's recollection of certain major events before and during that war is mostly inexact or downright erroneous. For instance, Lt Col. Victor Banjo was not part of the coup; he was senior to Nzeogwu and co. He was arrested and detained because he was said to have gone to meet Ironsi in his office armed - two days after Ironsi became the Head of state. He had been appointed as the first Nigerian commander of the Engineering corps of the Nigerian army .(He was an electrical engineer). He was being detained in the East when the war broke out. He reached an agreement with Ojukwu upon his release from the prison, that he would be given troops to Match to the west to stir up armed insurrection in the west which was occupied by Norther soldiers. He and his Biafran troops arrived at Ore, when it happened that there was a breakdown in communication with his contact in the west. They were stuck at Ore waiting to re-establish contact when the Federal troops came against them.

As much of Akintola was the Northern puppet, Ironsi was also a puppet to the North, he was among the people on the list to be executed but Ademoyega who was tasked to kill him failed in his assignment. Banjo was part of the coup. After the coup failed Ironsi hijacked it. Ironsi was handed power by the civilian government to restore order. In his appointments he surrounded himself with Northern soldiers, only one spots were for the Yoruba and Igbos which were Eastern and Western premier positions. The rest of his appointments were Northerners, if indeed Ironsi was part of the coup give me one reason as a military officer he will be so foolish to surround himself with Northerners?
