Let Biafrans go! Nigeria as it is today in my view as a history teacher and outsider belongs to Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba.The rest are squatters. This is a country that is deeply divided, bitter and sick. Unlike any other African country that I know, Nigeria needs total spiritual surgery and healing. The atrocities of IBB, Abacha, the military, gangs, witches and wizards, call for new rebirth.The killing of the people of Odi and Ogoniland, and the decimation of Igbos in 1960s left so many emotional, and spiritual scars that need honest self-examination and reparation to usher in healing.

The caption is deceptive as the interview only told us how Fajuyi died and never how Ironsi was killed. The usual, anyway.

So Ironsi refused to punish the assassins from his tribe so he himself died for that.

Are you aware that Yorubas and other Nigerians, Northerners took part in the coup? And why didn't Gowon execute them after Ironsi?

How come col Sani Bello waited for the death of col Nwankwo,one of Ironsi's ADC before denying his role in Nwankwo's escape from northern mutineers in 1966. Only God knows the real truth 😊

After the counter-coup of 1966, when they seized power, Northerners have been controlling Nigeria like it is their private property. All National policies and decisions have been made with the interest of the North, leading to gradual and continued decline of the country. And they have stubbornly resisted the idea decentralization, so that the economy can diversify. Decentralizing the economy would mean giving up control, and they don't want that. Northerners have been using Nigeria's resource wealth like it is their private fund. They dominate Nigerian armed forces and National security; they rushed the capital to the North; they built Kainji dam with resource revenue from the South; they blatantly defied the principles of location of industries, and established oil refineries in the North. They don't have oil, but they ran NNPC, and controledl most Oil Blocks. They enjoyed preferential treatment for admission into higher institution - the list is endless.

The death of any person and leader for that matter is painful and to that extent one sympathizes with the north for the death of Saudana, Tafawa Balewa and Bello but sadly nothing can or will ever justify labelling all Igbos as the executors of the coup. That was a lie from the pit of hell and for this lie, thousands and thousands of Igbos had to be murdered. How can an entire race be singled out for destruction due to the actions of a few of them who did not act on their behalf. Didn’t Dimka, Buhari , Abacha,Gideon Orka do coups,who singled out their people for extermination. Jan 15,1966 coup provided an excuse for people jealous of Igbos success to go and murder them The murderers have since ruled Nigeria and have failed to prove entire Igbo culpability. The murders continued until it eventually led to the genocidal war that killed over 3 million Igbos and non Igbos of Eastern Nigeria.

Jan 15 coup was a very unique coup lead majorly by the Igbo officer, but other officers including northerners participated but they felt used by their Igbo superiors when the pattern of killing became obvious. Nigeria would have probably be a paradise if Jan 15 never happen because we still lives with it consequences over half a century later

@@michaeludeze8470 True federalism would have survived and every region would have developed on their pace
@michaeludeze8470

@@MohammedTsonga-qi1cv First of all, I totally, wholly, agree with you about true federalism being the structure that will diversify Nigeria's economy and create economic opportunities. That is the practice in advanced economies, where each State develops their own natural resources and control their own destiny! Instead, Nigeria crippled itself with centralized economic system that makes every State equal, and thereby killed progress, and nationalized poverty. Nigeria is doing the direct opposite of developed nations. However, I fail to see how the coup has prevented Nigeria from structuring our economy to a system that benefits the country. And the present centralized system benefits Northern Nigeria at the detriment of the country. After the counter-coup of 1966, Northerners have been controlling Nigeria like it is their private property. All National policies and decisions have been made with the interest of the North, leading to gradual and continued decline of the country. And they have stubbornly resisted the idea decentralization, so that the economy can diversify. Decentralizing the economy would mean giving up control, and they don't want that. @@michaeludeze8470 That's the problem our founding fathers bequeath to us, divided nation and they were all guilty. But I tell you today that the North and West were more receptive and even the Igbos weren't so hostile prior to Jan 15. We can always trying to dribble around issues and continue to be in self denial but take it from me, that coup ripple effect still reverberate till tomorrow . It was a curse to the nation and the country would have been better of without it. Ironsi wouldn't have died, their wouldn't have been the civil war, Murtala, Dimka, Vatsa and millions of Nigerians across board would have still been alive. Nothing good came out from that coup period

The reason for picking Sani Bello was that Ironsi had lost confidence in the senior officers who had been politicized following the 15th January coup. For the same reason he called Gowon back from Sandhurst. Unfortunately Gowon betrayed the who favoured him.

Ironsi earned it being the most senior and experienced army officer. The British made him the the chief of army staff. In fact, he was the Commander in Chief at independence, representing the Queen, before Nigeria became a republic. Then a ceremonial president was appointed. When people don't know the system and history of Nigerian government people say all kind of things.

It is very wicked and irresponsible of you to continue the wicked , malicious and patently false narrative that Ironsi was part of the first coup,it is even more idiotic of you to continue to label an entire race as being responsible for the action of a few of their people. Were the coup plotters sent by Igbos? Was Danjuma, Dimka, Orka, Abacha etc sent by their people to do their own coups?

The qualified people would have been Igbos, which you wouldn't like either. Most of the senior officers were southerners, especially Igbos for obvious reasons. But Aguiyi was trying to pacify the North so he appointed them in very serious positions, a deadly mistake.
