Jonathan Conricus is a senior fellow at FDD focused on the Middle East. He served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for 24 years as a combat commander in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. He also served as a military diplomat, foreign relations expert, and international spokesperson. He recently retired as lieutenant colonel. Jonathan was the first Israeli officer to be seconded to the United Nations (UN), during which he provided military and strategic analysis for UN peacekeeping forces. He has directed social media and public diplomacy efforts and has extensive on- and off-camera experience from his years as a spokesperson.

Agreed. And I was ‘progressive’ before I saw what happened to Shani Louk. I know of no western country where this would be possible legally or morally. My humanitarianism is that of a pragmatic realist, and I cannot deny the intentions and hatred that Israelis and Jews are facing.

Thank you Jonathan your words are amazing! You have explained in no uncertain terms the Jewish plight in this conflict and the dangers we Israelis face on a daily basis. Not only are we dealing with an evil entity intent on our destruction, but we also have to face a battle on two fronts. The war of lies that Hamas is so prolific and successful at and the terror they are inflicting on Israel and its own people. There are so many examples of the horrific acts the Islamic people have subjugated its people to, but the world chooses to forget and cherish the moments a juicy narrative of how evil the Jews are, and what means should be used to destroy them. It is simply shameful!

I too used to have a great respect towards international bodies like UN, Amnesty Intl, Human Rights, Red Cross and to "free" media. All gone as this war was unwinding. ALL of them are discredited in my eyes

It is a tragedy that the principle of political neutrality now has been absndoned as a principle within the medical profession. That will put patients lives more at risk by upholding and expanding conflicts. Furthermore, it seems to be adoptere by healthcare profesdionals in democratic countries, even Norway, where they carry palestinian flags or are seen with Hamas tattoos or in videos glorifying terrorism. That is putting patients' security at risk and as professional practice this will have to br dealth with by the legal system!

Btw. Speaking of his hope for there to be descent in Gaza. We all thought Israel will not get one single vote in the Eurovision Song Contest the other week. Then the Israeli entry came in second in the popular vote. Just saying I for one is silent about my views about Israel and Gaza. Why? I know my friends, workmates and children totally buy the propaganda and suddenly think Israel is evil. The discussions on the topic lead absolutely nowhere. No killing though. Yet. Compare saying JK Rowling makes sense on the trans issue. Yet how many ordinary people intuitively know the obvious. Like that the Israeli army is doing its best to be decent to civilians… So maybe there are people that trust the testimony of their own two eyes and instincts. In Gaza too.

Yes Israel is going to survive. The road to lasting peace is still into the future. But the return of Jesus Christ will happen at a fixed time. God has complete control over His creation. The Messiah Will Begin His Rule By Judging and Purging Evil From His Earth (Joel 3: 1-17). He will Establish His Earthly Throne on Mount Zion in Jerusalem and Will Rule the Nations with a Rod of Iron (Ps. 2: 6, 9). Implements of war will be recycled into constructive tools (Isa. 2: 4).

It's madness that people look everywhere else but the military when deciding what to think about war. Experts who has been in Gaza has stories to tell, but no one seems to listen. I'm glad Conricus is joining the debate to shine light on what is actually going on. John Spencer should also be mentioned as someone who understands this war and praises IDF for how they handle it.

Best interview ive heard Jonathan give, of many good interviews. Absolutely brilliant. No stone unturned and his turn of phrase precise, accurate and sharp. How can these international organisations such as, but not only, UN work ad intended post WW2 with lots of powerful countries that do not live by laws, fairness, charity for all and humane practices?

To understand the virulence of the hatred, anyone who cannot remember it, should look up the Ramallah Lynching 2000. This event exemplifies the kind of difficulties that Israelis have faced. And it is worth noting that many of those murdered on October 7 actively worked toward peace or supported Gazans in someway (Vivian Silver was 74, and co-founder of ‘Women Wage Peace’).

Another point re media: Prosecutor Khan announced he was applying to the court for arrest warrants for Hamas leaders, and gave the details why, which makes it clear that he believes that crimes against humanity occurred. He then announces that he is also applying for arrest warrants for Israeli leaders. I’d say about 80% of the news I’ve seen switches the order and emphasis around. Then when you read the statement in full .. let’s just say that imv there are some strange inconsistencies that I hope will be examined and criticised by someone with a sharp mind like Natasha Hausdorff @uklficharitabletrust2399

If the idf would let international journalists in, no one would have to guess. What if the hostages were in there? Ever think about that? If you support israel, fine, but after i months of fighting and nothing to show for it but dead hostages, 3 killed by the idf and idf killed by friendly fire, if you support israel, fine, but dont act like they care about the hostages anymore. Connie, I am afraid you are repeating malicious propaganda, or in other words blood libels. Allow me to clarify: First, IDF is an army that strictly adheres to laws which are upheld by a robust justice system. Soldiers, no matter their personal opinions, cannot simply defy their legal orders and commit atrocities. If a soldier intentionally did such a thing as you describe, he would be prosecuted and punished. Listen to what Jonathan said. Second, The circumstances surrounding that poor girl are still unclear, and will probably remain so. If she was a victim of Israel, it was most certainly unintentional. Plenty of footage showing how IDF routinely aborts missions when kids are identified. Bear in mind that Hamas often get children killed, intentionally (like literally wrapping them around combatants) or by accident (like failed launces, even from humanitarian zones). Don't believe rubbish conspiracy without proof. Third, whilst the hostages are indeed being starved, as well as tortured and executed, the Gazans are not. Despite the vile headlines obsessing over "starvation"", which started even begore the IDF entered Gaza, Israel facilitates - as required by international law - the provisions of everything: food, water, fuel, medical supply. In excess. Of course, due to Hamas stealing, killing and profiting, distribution of aid inside Gaza is problematic. That's not Israel's fault. By the way, try imagine how you would feel about feeding the very people who killed your friends or family members. Fourth, you are right about one thing, which is the horrible trauma Israeli soldiers, civilians, families and children will carry with them. The alternative, however, is be killed by the many bloodthirsty enemies surrounding this tiny country like a ring of fire.
