Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria, along with USAFA leadership, addressed the entire Cadet Wing and USAFA Preparatory School today. Lt. Gen. Silveria left no uncertainties that racism has no place at the Academy.

And frankly, that quote is a little out of place in a military setting. I don't mean to demean this guy at all, but he's sort of in the wrong business to be saying that. The military is the antithesis of diplomacy.

@ibieiniid It's an academy with a strict code of conduct. Acceptance is not easy. You have to be nominated amongst other requirements. Cadets do not have to be there. So, they can get out. Would you prefer the cadets' leaders have a group hug?

Nick, pay attention... this is a LEADER and an agent of unity. Let's put silly little concepts aside for a moment - like "All Men Are Created Equal". And let's just focus on the fact that the military has a vested interest in unity among the ranks. They all need to be on one unified team with a singular mission. If nothing else, divisiveness is not good for business... PLUS, you're wrong... when everyone is a sheep (as you put it), that's when good leadership is needed most. Open your mind, young Nick, there is still time for you.

True leadership doesn't win elections. The problem isn't our system, the problem is us and our unwillingness to think for ourselves or at least to choose leaders who are actually skilled at leading. Instead, people choose who they "like" based on how charismatic they are and how much they think they align with their personal beliefs.

For me, it all boils down to: "When in charge, TAKE charge" Given the information he had at the time, I feel his speech was outstanding. While I certainly respect your position as 1SG, as a former SGT (E5) myself, I can't imagine a situation where a 1SG would drag the guilty soldier in front of the formation and say that. Nor can I imagine a 1SG referring to the guilty soldier as a 'fucker' or a 'racist shit bag.' To me, that action would seem more divisive than a group meeting asking for unity against Racism (regardless of the race of the eventual guilty person or people who did it.) Putting that guilty soldier in front of the entire formation and telling them of his guilt is just asking for "soldier-on-soldier justice" so2speak which is not condoned by the US Military, let alone a direct violation of one of my two most basic responsibilities, being "... the welfare of my soldiers ..." All soldiers, guilty or not. The Military's UCMJ should handle guilt and punishment; Not parading an individual soldier in front of a formation to their potential peril afterward. Just my humble personal thoughts on the matter.

Moral of the story: If you cant treat another with dignity and respect, *then gtfo of America cuz you aint a real American!* Edit: Common sense is needed in the comments section. If someone is treating another with disrespect because prejudicial bias, THAT PERSON SHOULD BE CALLED OUT FOR IT, NOT "respected" like the rest. Duh. And yah, that includes all individuals whom this country has adopted, willingly or not, past or present, as "leaders".

A true leader that can show a police chief or a president how to handle racism lots of the kneeling people don’t understand cause of lack of empathy would stop just want someone like this man with great understanding and someone that won’t put up with this shit

If only the true leader could capture the racists who were responsible for the crime and what they are doing to catch them. Rather than making stupid statements.

Well I would imagine they know and we don't need to know who they are. They have also been dealt with, he isn't playing around and I would bet money, they got kicked out of the program and deservedly so. He's letting the others know this kind of thinking/inciting violence is not going to be tolerated by our armed forces and not on his damn watch either

"They have also been dealt with" Not when you wrote this a month ago, but as of now, the black kid who lied and said he was a victim but actually wrote the racist remarks has been dealt with. You social justice warriors virtue signalling on here are so full of it.

Except he jumped to conclusions and is a liberal liar.

I almost forgot what it felt like to see and feel how a true leader can make you sense a unique solidarity and safety by just a speech! Only a true leader can bring that out!

I still feel the same damn way! Even though the reason behind him needing to give that lecture in the first place, was all due to an idiotic hoax. Doesn't change the core meaning of the speech being as relevant in todays time than ever before!
