I've watched all of your videos. This tugged at the heart strings after seeing all the work you guys put in, and having once been the owner of an El Camino myself. I wish you all the best guys.

Damn dude sorry to hear that😒 I've been watching this build and it just sucks after spending all that time and money to have a part fail as major as the motor, Good luck..🏁 awesome job🔥

As one of your three viewers lol and a major fan of your work ethic in these videos and a twenty year navy mechanic I understand your frustration as a person who has battled many mechanical issues not tied to a family member as such which I’m sure your grandpa would have been so happy to be there through that whole process and would have enjoyed working with his grandson even if it never worked. I love wrenching and am currently trying to get a caballero. Big picture your a very smart and capable young man seems like your family is very handy overall don’t let things you can’t control control you. Stay at it and look forward to future ELCO content.

I’m sure GM will take Care of you. You might have to call GM Head Quarters as well an explain to them what happened. You will get faster results. Keep your head up, things happen. I’m sure your Grandfather is up in heaven an he’s proud of you. I’m doing an LT4 to an LT5 in my 66 impala! You are definitely an inspiration to me with my project. GM will definitely take care of you. Please give us an update on the situation. I’m here to help you as well since you’ve helped me!

If there was a clearance issue on a rod bearing, it should be obvious on a new engine. When the rest of the bearings indicate that there was oil pressure, the diagnosis could be elementary. I reckon you'll have a new LT4 shortly. Keep your head up. A project like this takes more patience than most would imagine.

I hope they warranty that motor 🙏 I've been following this build for some time and this was the last thing i expected to see. I want to do the same swap in one of my Elcos so I have watched alot of your videos. Hopefully everything works out.

I hope they make right by the warranty, I have been watching your build and looking to purchase the same setup for my 69 Chevelle. I will be holding off my purchase until I hear how they resolved the issue. Excellent job with the car! The new wheels look awesome!

Looks like its been a year since you posted this video, so i hope GM sent you a new motor and you got it running again. This is the first video of yours that I have seen and the title is what got me interested.... as I have my Grandfather's 1979 El Camino and am debating on what motor I should drop into it. It originally came with the small block 267ci V8 and a 4 speed manual. It has almost 400,000 miles on it and the intake manifold has never been removed! The only thing on the motor that has been serviced was a carb rebuild and the occasional alternator, water pump, power steering pump and starter. But the motor itself was just as it had left the factory. My Grandpa swore by Valvoline oil and Chevron gas. He was a Master Sargent in the Air Force and worked on many, many of the jets from Korea until after Vietnam and apparently worked on some of the shit that he absolutely would not tell anyone about. Not even on his death bed, which unfortunately he was put there from some of the shit he came into contact with. But he knew his shit about how things worked and gave me the El Camino for my first car.... as long as i only used valvoline oil and Chevron gas. Haha. Im certain that it would have surpases 400,000 miles, after which i was gonna try and get it into a magazine or something because a lot of people think that Chevys cant make it to 400,000 miles. It was all original, even the paint! Unfortunately, after i had it for some years and had started driving a couple of cars that were faster and hence more fun, i wasnt really driving it and my cousin really needed something to drive for a lil while..... Yea, dont let anyone else drive your shit. EVER!! Because apparently when he had filled up the radiator, he only used water. And even though we live in Tucson, AZ and it doesnt really get that cold here.... that year we had a rare cold snap for a week or so where it got all the way down to about 17° and let me tell you.... I did NOT know that a motor could come apart like that! Its like its etched into my memory. The sides of the block... basically were not the sides of the block anymore! The best i cam describe it is like the sides of the block were like the pedals of a rose, how they seem to pivot at the bottom and come out and down from the top. You could see the sides of the cylinders that you would never normally be able to see. It was crazy... and a shame. So close to 400,000 and still ran great. So ive been thinking about what motor to put into it when i get to that point and what else i wana do to it. I think itd be cool to kinda copy the Buick GNX rear suspension, since its a truck bed in the back and would have a traction problem and theyre both G-bodies. But well see. Anyways, hope its all worked out for you and the El Camino looks great

That’s too bad to hear about what happened to your grandfather’s el camino. Sounds like your grandfather knew what he was doing because that is the most miles I’ve ever heard of on an el camino with a stock motor! Best of luck to you on your future swap.

1:21 is there no other way to get oil pressure throughout the engine besides using the starter? Using the starter will wipe off any assembly lube on all rotating parts causing immediate wear.
@lt4camino
@lt4camino Жыл бұрын
That is one of the methods listed in the manual for priming the engine. However I just spoke to GM directly on the phone yesterday and they recommended the use of an “engine preluber/pre-oiler” as another method for priming the engine that is also listed in the manual. Im not taking any chances and I’m going to follow exactly what they recommend. I just purchased a preluber yesterday and will be using it on the start up of the new motor to prevent as little wear as possible. (Even though the use of a preluber would not have prevented the rod bearing from spinning and seizing as it was a clearance issue from what I was told)

Im thinking of getting a LT4 aswell, if you were going to buy an LT4 again for whatever reason would you get it from Summit or Chevy dealer?
@lt4camino
@lt4camino 11 ай бұрын
Summit you can see their inventory online and order from your phone plus their customer service is reasonably knowledgeable and shipping was pretty quick. I didn’t have to call or go into a dealership, the dealerships in my area are also not super knowledgeable on the performance side of things. So I’d probably just order from summit again if I were to get another one.
