FYI you don’t need a 1/2 router for this job. I bought a 3D printed jig on eBay for a tenner and used a 1/4 router with a 12mm guide bush and 6mm bit. Did two passes and it worked a treat. Not a criticism, just wanted to share the knowledge. Great vid, thanks for uploading.

@@LTWCarpentry you have a great channel here, I have seen that square wt vid alone about 5 times already. Any chance you could do a worktop scribing between two walls at some stage please. I will be fitting my first worktop in couple of weeks time, L shape, both ends are trapped, female wall to wall and male top to fridge gable. There are few vids around but I would love to see your take on it, if possible of course.

That’s soo helpful, and so well explained ! Where you mark the lines, I was going to move the jig up a few mm so the lines are on the side of guide cutout rather than faff about trying to get them in the centre ? Thanks for any advice, I’m so out of my depth, but going to give it a go..

Great video. I am going to have a go at fitting bolts on square edge worktop and wondered 1/4" router would be capable of cutting out the keyholes in a number of passes. Grateful for any help. TIA.

So, I’ve now done this, and here are my thoughts…..A heavier router would have helped me, but I made 3 different depth passes, which worked ok. I bought a unika kit, which had plastic bits to hold bolts in place, very handy but not necessary. It also included colour fill compound to join, which was white to match worktop and filled my imperfect end cuts. Your videos were really helpful !
@LTWCarpentry

@@LTWCarpentry I used a cheap parkside (aldi) that I had. Weird size bits though, in between 1/4 and 1/2” so replacements are going to be hard to find…I think a heavier weight would have helped keep it more stable but shelling out £200.00 for a Trend, I’ll put up with the extra effort. Went 4 incremental passes on the last set, sounds a lot, but actually faster as less laboured. Anyhoo, your videos were very helpful for a first timer, so calm and well explained. Oh, I used a thick sofa cushion laid up level against the base unit when I was on my back doing bolts up, try it, saves a trip to the chiropractor haha.

Some good info there regarding bolt hole placement, you can be in a world of hurt if you just cut the three direct from the jig. Do you not PVA your mitre joints to stop water ingress and possible swelling.
@LTWCarpentry

I’ve never found the need mate, with a decent mastic seal, make sure it come out of the joint and clean off the excess works fine, been doing it a very long time now with no issues

Try Zip bolts they are a little more expensive but they are a lot less faff as most of the time you can fit them with one hand. Come in handy if it’s a corner unit with a set of pull out shelves pre fitted.

12.7mm x 50mm, just use the same bit for cutting the mason mitre, if your router can adjust cut depth

I'm fitting my kitchen and at one end of the kitchen I have units 330mm deep so work top is 350mm maybe slightly smaller but its square edge worktop what jig is best for this work as it is half the size of a standard worktop. Great video.

If you check out my video on how to join square edged worktops buddy, that will help, but as for the bolt holes, I would just use two and keep them about 100mm apart 👍🏻

Hiya. Do you think a 1/4 inch cordless router would suffice for the bolt holes?
@LTWCarpentry
@LTWCarpentry 4 ай бұрын
In theory yes but the only thing I would say is the jigs are designed to be used with a 9mm offset from the cutter so you might end up with the cut of being to big for the bolts, I would try it on scrap first.
