Why does the guy at 6:39 do it differently? After the bar is on his chest, he pushes up and split his feet in different directions. Lu Xiaojun squat down after the bar is on his chest while his feet are next to each other.

It always surprised me that despite China having talent stacked so deep in the 77kg category, that they never got remotely close to challenging perepechenov's 210kg jerk record which stood from 2001 till 2016 when Kazakh Nijat Rahimov came out of nowhere and hit an incredible 214kg. China had a supply of podium standard 77kg lifters about ten deep for years and years. Xiaojun can do mindblowing things in the gym like bottom up overhead squats with 200kg. Yet jerking even 200kg always seemed a struggle. It never made any sense to me, it was like his coaches just forced him to squat jerk because it looked good. Liao hui could sometimes outjerk him despite being a weight class lower.

Jure Slegel As you can see his squat is strong as fuck. Once he gets a solid position he stands up like there is no weight pushing him down. To do the squat jerk you dont have to raise the bar as high since you can just get under it. So if you have insane squat and can hold the overhead position it is a lot better.
