In this video, I test out Lucas Engine Oil Stop leak on this 2004 Grand Am. This car has been leaking oil all over my driveway and I am going to test this quick fix.

It takes some time brother. Unless you have a catastrophic gasket failure, it does the trick nicely. Give it a couple of weeks of driving. I am a mechanic and believe that if it needs to be replaced, it should be. I do understand however, that on some cars replacing gaskets can be labor heavy and some people can not put the money into it. Some cars are not even worth the bill after repairs. Bottom line, I tell people that it is more important to keep the correct amount of oil in your engine. Some coolant stop leaks cause a mess thats hard to clean and can damage water pumps, as coolant is also the lubricant for the pump. This is a quality prroduct though!

So my 97 4.0 ranger has been leaking oil so I put a quart in and the next day let it idle for 5 hours , and by the end of that it was the equivalent of driving 100+ miles. It works like a dream . Every oil change I'm gonna throw maybe a 1/4 of a bottle in.

@07 grimdrummer Talk to your mechanic, idling is terrible for your cam. A Lexus may be less susceptible but I am betting there is plenty of plastic in your cam to wear and is far different from a 97, 4.0 Ranger which is all steel.

The stop leak works by swelling gaskets it takes time also it's not a bad idea to get in the vehicle with a socket and try to get a quarter turn out of your oil pan bolts and valve cover bolts don't go overboard obviously but give them a little bit of torque if you can then add stop leak on top of that if not completely solving the leak it will control the leak saving you money on oil in the long run.

I tried a bottle a few oil changes back it helped some I had small leaks not much on driveway but mostly you could smell an oil leak. Last oil change Castrol Edge I topped off with Valvoline synthetic with Maxlife and that stopped all leaks and last weekend changed oil just Valvoline High Mileage synthetic with Maxlife runs great no leaks.

I guess there comes a point when the oil leak is so bad it needs to be repaired. I have a oil leak on one of our family cars. Been quoted an insane price by garage so much it’s more than the cars worth. So I’m going to try the lucas product. 🤞

I've been a longtime user of Marvel Mystery Oil in my 1988 Toyota (quart of that plus 6qts Mobil High Mileage 10W40), but after 32 years and 315K miles it's starting to show a bit of age and I'm getting more oil in my PCV catch can than in previous years. New PCV valve and grommet reduced that so I know that was an issue, but I suspect (going to confirm whether or not that's the case when I do a leak down test) the rings are finally starting to show their age. There are a couple external leaks in addition to minor oil consumption, so I'm tempted to try a stop leak product. Been researching a bit now so it was good to see your real world experience with the Lucas.

@@thekidd5159 as it turned out, my excessive oil in the catch can was from years-old sludge that had never washed out of the baffles in my valve cover, slowly preventing it from draining back down into the oil passageways. After a thorough cleaning inside and out of the valve cover, it takes close to two thousand miles to just get three fluid ounces of oil in the catch can, and I only show about half a quart low when I change my oil at 3K miles. Pretty pleasantly surprised for a 34 year old engine with now over 325K miles on it. Never even got to the point of attempting any stop leak product.

I would think a “full review “ would include info on 2 days later and maybe 2 weeks later... I put it in a 98 ranger leaking into the #5 cylinder really bad and it worked very well. It would gum up a plug in 100 miles. I’m at over 500 and counting!!

let my car leak down a quart added half amount run my car half a quart or more on the low side stopped the leak run it a little low worked for me, oil was coming from the rear seal. I still run a little low no leaks.

What some people have said about switching to synthetic oil causes leaks. I believe that to be true and I was switching over gradually to hopefully not have a leak. At about 50/50 I developed a leak, so I tried this Lucas product (didn't really think it would work, but what the hell) and after a few hundred miles its looking pretty good. Don't know how long it will last? But for now i'm happy.

Most of the stop leaks on the market are not permanent as they advertise. They do work moderately maybe 50% reduction in about 3-4 days of driving. I've tried most from $5-$25 range

they say it takes 250 miles or up to 1 month for it to work properly. for more severe leaks you should use a bottle on 2 consecutive oil changes and they recommend using a quart on every oil change there on out. this may be true or may be a marketing strategy but I've used this product on multiple vehicles and had complete seals on all leaks. some for years and have sold the vehicles and know they owners of said vehicles and they're still running good.

You have to give it more than day.... it even says on the bottle to let it do it’s thing. I’m using it to stop a light burn of oil on my Volvo... Suspect valve stem seals and I have given it a couple of days and it’s not burning or leaking now as it was a little wet between the engine and transmission rear main crank oil seal...

Actually it will not stop a big leak...just small ones around seals and such...there is no miracle in a bottle...but it works on what it says it will work on

Lucas claims you need to drive for 200 or 300 miles. Chad Williams didn't go that far as far as we know, so there is no expectation for his results to be accurate.

Make sure you clean and replace your oil plug washers! Worn out washers or missing washers are a big culprit

Mine leaks onto the exhaust pipes. All this stuff did for me was change the smell. I dont fix it because it keeps people from tailgating me!!! They run up, choke, and fall back. Life is good in my antiques. - Real Neo

Stop leak expands your gaskets. So if its valve cover/head gasket or oil pan gasket, it will work 1000 percent. Any other leak that is NOT a gasket it won't work

it needs time to build up on leaks then it will block the leak eventually, but you could have a large leak that needs repair, that looks like a rear main seal.

The whole purpose with oil stop leaks is to Rejuvenate dried shrunken rubber seals, gaskets & O-rings. It does not have to be as thick as mud.

Concerning how thick it is: put the (clean, unopened) bottle inside a big pot of hot water for 15/20 minutes. Works wonders on changing viscosity and making it far easier to pour. I've had good luck with this product temporarily (2k miles) stopping a small leak from the oil cooler. It is, however, a bandaid, and not a long term fix. I like it for what it is.

Can someone answer this please... Would this work to stop blowby past the piston rings as its a thick consistency...I would have thought it'd change the viscosity of the oil aswell?

Michael YZF Most likely, yes, to some degree. A better solution to that particular issue is most likely going to be the Engine Restore product in the gray can at WalMart and parts stores. It mixes thoroughly with the oil and fills the small inconsistencies in the cylinder walls similar to the way that silicone covers imperfections, but it does wash away with oil service if it’s not used regularly. I mixed the Lucas Engine Oil Stabilizer and CAR Products Engine Restorer religiously in every oil change, running conventional oil, in my ‘02 Mitsubishi, and I received nearly 50k totally maintenance-free, and the engine was cleaner than any other I have torn down when I pulled it for a rebuild. I got the car at 218k, built the motor at 265k, and the motor was almost as clean as a brand new, synthetic oil only, 50k-mile engine when you pulled the valve cover. Of course, I also flushed for a whole day with ATF before oil changes, so that probably had a lot to do with the cleanness. Picked up some MPG doing this stuff, too, but with 250k+ on a cheap Mitsu with 210k of unknown service history, there’s not much that can be done, same as my 300k Astro that recently blew a head gasket. Best we were able to get from the poor thing was 15mpg. Seriously, try that combo and see if it works.

Most of the time, yes, you should be ok to do so. Just check the dipstick level first too make sure you are not too full.

I have a old 801 ford tractor that leaked oil every where!! Had to use 1 gal. Per. Hour to use to work. Had mechanic give estimate on repair. 2500. To 3000. Dollars tried the Lucas oil Stop leak Fixed my problem. Did have to use 2 ea. But 20 dollars was way less plus tractor is not down for repair!!

Do you need to remove any oil out to compensate for the added liquid of the Lucas? Its almost a quart of Lucas....so do you remove a quart of oil??

My engine was already a quart low from the leak, so I didn’t need to remove any oil. But you never want too much oil in your engine. So, you may have to remove some if you are already full.

Please, do not trust this oil stop leak or any oil stop leak for you plane. I would suggest fixing the root problem and not trust any miracle oil leak fix. I would hate to see you have engine failures in the sky. So please, fix the root issue.

I used it in mine and within a few hundred miles, it doesn't leak a drop. It doesn't burn it anymore either. Best few bucks I've spent on a car. It should be called "liquid mechanic" Not for modern engines IMO. Mine is a 99.

This stuff absolutely works for small leaks. I used it once and started working immediately. I use it every 5000 miles with synthetic and never have any oil leaks.

Maybe it works for some but I've tried everything and just think all this stuff is nothing more than a witch doctor in a bottle... I've never had any max- life oil, high mileage oil or oil additive stop even so much as the smallest leaks. I resign myself to the fact that if you cannot live with the oil leak the only fix is to FIX IT.

I got oil leaks all under of my 318 and put that in , the oil leaks have stopped so far and my oil pressure is high agine . I'd try using another bottle .

Chad Williams yea think you are supposed to drive it around to about 100 miles so I don't know if you drive it to work or not but driving around more it's supposed to lubricate the seals and washers or gaskets and recondition them to new

I feel you didn't follow instructions to a T. I got a 351 Windsor from 1988, and it leaked a quart a week. I followed instructions exactly and now down to 1 quart a month with droplets where there was puddles before

You are absolutely correct. I haven't used THIS product yet, but I plan to. I've come to rely on Lucas products...and haven't seen any reason NOT to trust them. When it comes to a rear main seal leak...at SOME point, nothing in a bottle will fix it! "It ain't new but once!"😁

These are for small leaks example my car had a leak in the valve cover gasket put some of this in and it worked the leak got smaller and smaller and eventually disappeared had to put degreaser on everything and spray it off lol

You have to have the engine hot before you do that! You need to drive 300 miles before you see results. If the seals are worn, nothing can help.

If it still leaks and its called STOP LEAK ,then ,no it didn't work. I think if you read the label, it says it doesn't work on all applications. Thats a pretty good leak. Hope you got it fixed.

You need to check oil level before adding it. You don't want to overfill or it can create leaks or worse. If your oil level is already full you'll have to remove a quart of oil before adding a quart if this. I would just remove a quart and a half of oil, then add the Lucas, then top off to the fill line with the oil i I just removed.

It says it’s not supposed to be used to stop bigger leaks or holes in the engine... from it spots it looks like you have a larger hole...

THIS STUFF DID NOT WORK. Not only didn't it work but it made the leaking worse. My car had a little leak, about 1-2 little drops a day. I tried Bar's Stop Leak (works for engine, transmission and power steering); after 300 miles, the leak was the same. I came back to Walmart to buy more, wm ran out or they were lazy to stock it up. I had to try Lucas and it's more expensive than Bar's and it said "really works". Now, after about almost 300 miles, my car leaks 4-5 drops just from noon to evening. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Stand the bottle in a bucket of hot water for a while it then comes out easier...👍

I put this in my Ford pickup. It did Not stop the oil leak from my crankshaft oil seal leak.wont use it again. If it say oil Stop leak that's what I expect.

It only conditions seals it don't stop leaks from seals that are actually damaged.... If you have a chunk missing from your seal of course it wouldn't work u have to pull transmission and replace those seals replace all while it's out...

I have used Lucas and it sucks I had the same result all 4 trucks at the shop I put it since there are many factors for this to work after a fresjh oil change in all I used blue devil and it worked in all 4 trucks 2 were totally stopped a third barely any thing and the 4th improved it definately but not like the first 3 so I assumed that truck had a tear in the gasket somewhere

Hey, I haven't tried it yet. I actually have the engine and transmission out of the car at the moment. The transmission went out and thought I would try to tackle this leak at the same time. Hoping to figure it out soon though!

Ive had a tiny leak for yr and a half now in my 2001 corvette . They tell me its going to be about 1700 to fix cause they have to take everything apart , anyway the mechanic suggested since it isnt a bad leak to use Lucas now every time ive got an oil change 3x now I 've added it in the leak did not stop however it has not got worse so im thinking maybe its helping keeping it from getting bad , I have another bottle of the lucas ready for the next oil change b ut just bought a blue devil stop leak thinking of adding that in , now can I put both in at next oil change for instance add the lucas with the oil change then wait a month and then add the blue devil or is that too much sealant to be putting in ?

Funny you ask this question. So, since Lucas didn’t stop my rear main leak, I added a bottle of Blue Devil Rear Main Seal to my existing oil (with Lucas still in it) and I have had no problems. Also, it stopped my rear main leak!!!! :) I would say go for it.

If it is a valve cover leak, I would say to just replace the valve cover gasket. I have a video on my channel on how to do that repair.

My review: 4-8 small drops leak each night before use. After use- 4-8 small drops per night. Doesnt work for me.

Too much liquid in the engine. Smoke comes from over flow of oil.

You overfilled your engine. You're leaking because oil pressure is too high and the smoke is prolly because youre leaking onto your exhaust. I'd assume its a rear main seal leak.

Had a golfball size hole in my block so you could say it was a pretty bad leak, this stuff did the trick reducing the loss from 6 quarts a minute to 5.5 quarts a minute
