The Singer is a show in China where only established singers are invited to perform. All the singers invited to this show are already well-known artists in China who have already won awards. Dimash was invited as the first foreigner as a wild card and the youngest in the history of this show. . They became aware of him because he had already won some important competitions in Kazakhstan and Belarus, among others. He was still completely unknown in China. Actually, it was intended that he would only have 1 or 2 appearances. But it came completely different. When he woke up the next morning after his first performance of SOS he was a megastar in China and even found bodyguards outside his hotel room. SOS’ first video had 600 million views when it aired. He was just 22 years old at the time. I think it was very diffiult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. And now he had to go to China alone, didn‘t know the country, didn‘t know the language, didn‘t know the traditions or livestyle and up to that point he spoke (almost) no English, except maybe „Thank you“ and „My name is Dimash“. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 19 so I can imagine…). The other competitiors might not have taken Dimash seriously at first because of his age and that they didn’t know him but that quickly changed after the performance of SOS, as you can see. Through his honest, cheerful and open nature, he found friends very quickly. Contacts that still exist today. P.S. And please never say Borat and Kazakhstan in one sentence😉. Kazakhs don’t like it. He isn’t even from Kazakhstan.

You did the right thing by starting listening to Dimash from this song! This song has become a kind of hallmark of Dimash. He subsequently sang it many times and it always sounds different. But you have to listen in turn to all of his performances from this Chinese "I am a Singer" contest.

You will very likely be speechless many more times if you continue to dive in Dimash's catalog of incredible performances. As starters, I recommend "Adagio" from this same 2017 Chinese show, "Olimpico," "Ave Maria," "Ikanaide," "Stranger," and anything else you can point and pick!

If you truly want to experience Dimash (pronounced- DE-Mosh) as he unfolded, then continue on with "I am singer" Chinese talent show. No, he did not win, they had a rule that only Chinese person could win. So, they apologized to Dimash for the rule gave him second place and changed the rule the next year. Dimash was just happy to have been accepted on the show and showcase his talents on prime-time TV. He sung in many competitions over there already, that is how the audience knew him. If you do not want to see his performances in the show, the next one to experience is Greysa Strat or "sinful passion" translated. Keep in mind if you find the one from 2018 not the concert, it is mandatory they lip sync over in that country, so just listen to his voice or watch the fam cam version it is perfection. I then recommend Love of tired swans, after that depending if you love his ballads, go to "Know" and then watch it again immediately afterward in the "vocalize" style. after that he did release a song for the Americans, and he did a show called "Idol Hits" where he re-vamped " "Screaming". (Without his voice on the backtrack, it was very well done) He has a video of screaming, I love it, he has his voice played over himself, really cool. I think from all those songs you will see he has a wide range, and incredible breath control. if not watch him go Ham on Sinful passion and count how long he goes through all his melismas without taking a breath. Then if you really want something to entertain watch his video of "Be with me" or "Stranger" I like best to watch his concerts on KZfaq, He is a "once in a lifetime" singer. I am glad I get to experience him for myself. I hope you take the time to experience his talent also. One of my favorite songs from him is called "battle of memories", it is powerful, and I even love the video with it.

This was a very enjoyable reaction. The song "S.O.S. (d'un Terrien en détresse)" is originally from a French-Canadian musical called 'Starmania' from the 1970s and is considered one of the most difficult French songs to perform. Dimash is from Kazakhstan. He appears here in the fifth season of Hunan Television's "I Am A Singer" competition. "I Am A Singer" is an annual Chinese music competition between famous and established professional singers. The audience phones in to determine the winner after each episode. It is the same throughout the entire show; 500 with musical backgrounds judge the show by points each week. At 22 years old, Dimash was the youngest participant in the show's history and competed against these professional and top-selling Chinese singers as a 'wildcard' competitor. The competition consists of 14 rounds, lasts almost 4 months, and competitors are eliminated throughout the season. Every performance is live, and no lip-syncing or auto-tune is permitted. Pure unadulterated vocal ability only. Dimash's mother later said that he hoped to reach at least the middle stage of the competition. This was the very first episode of the competition, and Dimash had to go first because he was considered the weakest, given that he was completely unknown to the audience. After this performance, he became a superstar in China overnight. His Chinese competitors called him their "little imported brother." The other already well-known contestants were in absolute awe of him and joked that they might as well go home. Dimash won the first two episodes! Congratulations, you just witnessed the greatest vocalist alive. He’s from Kazakhstan, sings in 15 different languages (speaks Kazakh and Russian fluently, some English, and a little Mandarin). He plays 8 musical instruments and is currently working on his PhD in musicology (has a Masters in composition).
