It's inevitable that ppl compare new artists to those who have come before--particularly when they're THIS good. In Emily's case, I get a strong Carole King vibe due to clarity of tone, piano skills, and songwriting ability.

Great reaction Lucie, I'm with you I don't think anyone could do this better. A friend, Brad Taggart, suggested Emily do this song and he was so right, what a performance! It is amazing how she can take these songs and with just the piano give us what can only be described as a work of art. I don't think about things that are missing from the originals I am fully drawn into the world Emily is creating and hearing it in her voice as if it was her song. Emily is always gracious and repeatedly says nothing beats the original, and in a way that is true but what she gives us is an experience that is not tied to the original, we are in Emily's world for the duration of the song. Emily puts her own spin on The Bangles' original, using just her piano to compensate for a full band, plus, of course, her own gorgeous voice. There can be only one valid reaction, in regard to Emily's musical genius, that is acceptable, appropriate and in accord with the sum total of the panoply of perfections that comprise her constellation of light-emitting stars that illuminates the music industry: the reaction of genuine wonder and amazement, bordering incredulity, that so much achievement is secured by racing against our mutual enemy, time: A peerless cynosure in a room of lack-luster beings, she likely accomplishes more in one day than most can vainly hope for in a decade; an unexampled paragon of tireless effort coupled to innate brilliance of mind that is worthy of emulation and acclaim. Genius has more to do with the obligatory exercise of the gift than in the possession of it, which is of no use if the seeds provided are sown in uncultivated, unwatered soil that yields no fruit, with humanity deprived of the benefit. She has sown in nutrient-rich soil and is reaping a harvest of plenty, poured out from the opened windows of Heaven, to earth, where there is not room enough to receive it.
