Lucy and Desi were magic together. After they split the magic was gone, but I understand why it happened. Two amazing, very talented people who still make us laugh today. Lucy and Desi, we love you both. Thank you for all the laughs! ❤🤣

I also liked " The Lucy Show" and then "Here's Lucy", but I absolutely loved "I Love Lucy", back when it first came out in 1951 and now in 2023. When I look at the I Love Lucy show, I think of "The Fabulous Four". However, Lucy and Desi will always be close to my heart for the the love and laughter they brought to the world. Thank you.

The magic wasn't gone! The first 2 seasons of The Lucy Show were hilarious! I loved seeing Vivian Vance as Lucy's co-star again, free of the stress of playing frumpy Ethel. TLS had the same WRITERS as ILL! Lucy & Desi both gave credit to the ILL writers for the success of ILL. Desi was even executive producer of the first half of S1 of The Lucy Show! The first 3 years of The Lucy Show were good, but once Viv & the kids were gone & and the focus shifted to just Lucy in an L.A. apartment working for Mr. Mooney, and the ILL writers left, THEN the magic was gone. The show started to become dependent on a series of famous guest stars & musical performances to pull in viewers. It was more like a variety show with Lucy being a walking disaster area, destroying property everywhere than it was a sitcom. Desi was a great innovator & visionary who set precedents for TV production & distribution that are still in use today: syndication & reruns, 3-camera setup, etc. & deserves much more recognition for all that. But Lucy made lots of savvy business decisions that changed TV history, even making them unilaterally, overruling the decisions of the men on the board of Desilu. She gave us Star Trek, for crying out loud! And Mission Impossible. And lots more. That was Lucy, not Desi.

I think Lucy herself defined it best when she said: "I am not funny. My writers were funny, my direction was funny. I am not funny, what I am is brave". I also think that Desi, for all his faults as a man and a husband, does not get nearly enough credit for the success of "I Love Lucy". He had a commitment and vision to produce, every week, a 1st class product for the viewers. He felt they deserved no less - as did Lucy and the rest of the cast and crew. Much is written and said about the original TV titans of comedy, Milton Berle and Jackie Gleason. Meh. Their shows are not still being shown in dozens of countries every day 70+years later. I love Lucy is.

Barbara Eden said when she appeared on the episode Country Club Dance Barbara Eden has said in interviews that Lucille Ball was very generous to her during her guest appearance. During a rehearsal, upon seeing the tight dress that Eden was to wear on the show, Lucy decided that the dress wasn't distinctive enough. Lucy and her hairstylist then proceeded to sew sparkles onto the costume. And Lucy truly loved Barbara Eden’s Comic Timing and offered her as a contract player in Desilu Productions, but Barbara was honest with Lucy and said she already had a contract with 20th Century Fox.

I was born in '57 so I didn't see the original run, I caught it in syndication for years. I Love Lucy was a zany screwball humor with her sidekick Ethel, aways in trouble. Lucy had much on her plate as an actress first, then a wife and comedian & business woman in a time when it was mostly men in that business world. I give her credit for everything she did. I imagine she loved Desi & it broke her heart when he cheated on her.They built that business together & the tv show. It was groundbreaking. America wasn't ready back then for a biracial couple. Lucy still had to hold things together after the divorce, which most likely broke her heart. I could see that afterwards she still loved Desi. Their children were beautiful. I love Lucy was very funny. She was a talented woman. 🙏🙏🙏🙏✨️🙏🙏 a star.
@LJ-ht4zs
@LJ-ht4zs Жыл бұрын
I totally agree - after their divorce, Lucy (at Desi's request) starred in The Lucy Show. After 3 seasons, Desi resigned as producer. Lucy continued with 6 seasons, and then starred in and produced Here's Lucy - which premiered her two children (Desi Arnaz Jr. left after 3 seasons.) Then when Desi's drinking was worse than before, Lucille bought him out and had to run Desilu. So she had to raised two children, star in and produce two tv shows and take over as Head of a Major Studio, Desilu - all at the same time. I feel happy for her that she was able to find happiness and support in her 2nd marriage which lasted from 1961 till her death in 1989.
@DonnaBrooks

But America WAS ready for an inter-racial couple. The success of I Love Lucy proved that!! That was another thing that made their story so remarkable. Yes, she & Desi always loved each other but SHE filed for divorce. Also, you say Lucy was a comedian. She was not. She was a comedic actress who did physical comedy. She was never funny on her own. She never did stand-up. She never wrote comedy. The writers gave her funny scripts & she interpreted them. She always gave credit to the writers.

You have the cream of the crop (from television 📺 & movies 🎬) talking about this dynamic duo- Lucille Ball (1911-1989) & Desi Arnaz (1917-1986). Unfortunately, tv 70-75 years later, isn't really worth it. Too much reality tv. Sitcoms are dead according to comedian Jerry Seinfeld.

For as great as her show and talent was, and the legacy and influence she left behind, it sure would be nice to say that she was a "nice" person. I've heard story after story of how horrible she was to people out in the "real world." It's almost like her attitude was, "yeah, like me and my show and make me rich, but outside of that I have no time for you." She even threw coffee on a flight attendant once because it wasn't hot enough for her...she was banned from at least two airlines. Countless people in the industry, (outside of this montage) couldn't stand her either,..maybe Desi cheating on her all those years made her bitter. Madeline Kahn found out after she was fired from "Mame" that it was due to Lucy, and that she felt Madeline was outshining her. She was a hard, chain smoking, ruthless broad...

Well, many many many stars men and women -have said she was a good person, direct and real, and they all loved her. Over the years I have seen various interviews and read books - ie Madelyn Pugh "Laughing With Lucy" they Lucy say extremely talented, a perfectionist, knew her business, helpful, supportive, etc etc. Also, in the real world people people she hired stayed with her forever. The only gossip to the contrary was about airplane personnel - never knew what the problem was but heard she wasn't too pleasant. Thought that since she was claustrophobic maybe her tension was very high on an airplane (doesn't excuse bad behavior) but I am throwing that out as possibly a reason. While i had to travel for business I hated being on a plane - never a pleasure. Never rude or nasty but uptight. However, I remember on my last flight to San Francisco because i had knee problems and had to walk a bit in the aisle to keep the swelling down. Needed more than ice. Actually the stewardess was quite unpleasant with me. Not helpful and sort of nasty. Got double knee replacements and have only flown once since then. I think in part my experience was so awful with the stewardess. So it can go both ways. Plus your calling a woman a ruthless broad - is insulting. PS Madeline Kahn was not the right person to play the part of Miss Gulch. (forgot the spelling)

Very few people will ever tell the truth about her. But I have read and heard a few accountings of Miss Ball, which were not stellar. There is a fascinating two part expose out on both Desi and Lucy right now and many people said similar things to those that you are stating above. My bottom line, I loved Lucy Richardo, the character, and admired the talent of Lucille Ball. I don't believe in all of the other hype. Most of the time, when I have met "stars" I have been disappointed in the reality vs the fantasy. I'll just keep my fantasy LOL

Your opinion is not shared by the rest of the world since I Love Lucy was, and probably continues to be, the most well known sit com ever - So "we all saw that played out"? In 2022 Amy Poehler directed "Lucy and Desi" a documentary which won two Emmy awards. Also, at the same time a movie "Being the Ricardos" starring Nicole Kidman, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role playing Lucille Ball. So it seems that people still care about Lucille Ball more than 30 years after her death.
