Having bought a BR3 i wanted to compare the Atlas system to it, here are my impressions on both.

I think the fact that the BR3 allows your tom to wobble a bit, is the main reason it will improve resonance and sustain. If the tom is held extremely rigidly, such as when you put it in a snare stand, then the tom holder / arm will soak up some of the vibration of the heads / shell. Can you hear any difference between the two mounts ? I like the idea of the Atlas mount, but it is a big unsightly beast of a thing, and I don't see how it really offers any isolation of the drum, when it's just bolted on to the shell like a normal tom bracket. The BR3 with it's flexible U - shaped bracket acts a bit like a shock absorber, which isolates the tom a lot more, but therefore allows a bit of movement of the drum.

Would have been nice to have a sound comparison, I thought that's what this was.

No, I would've included the words "sound" and "comparison" in the title for that.

HUGELY useful. Thank you for this video. Just bought an ATLAS mount to replace an ISS mount on a 10” VMX tom before this vid and this reassures my purchase and choice. Thank you again!

In my opinion nothing beats the Tama Star series mounts. In high school we got a new Ludwig for the jazz ensemble. First thing we did was switch out the wing nut for a Gibraltar one.

Thanks for the video. Not really a fair comparison. The Inde BR3 is much smaller than the Ludwig mount and the smallest size of 3 options, hence it flexes too much on that 12" tom. The Inde BR2 or BR2XL are bigger and stronger. This would have been a better comparison. I have both the Ludwig and the BR2XL. I like the Ludwig, but it does stick out more than the BR2XL. The Inde does have that adjustment to get the best out of your tom. It is also neater than a rims type mount, in my view. I only use both mounts on a 8" and 10" tom. Mounting the Ludwig on a 12" or bigger tom, with all that weight and movement close to the edge would worry me. Had I known of the Inde product before getting the Ludwig Atlas, I would have opted for the Inde. With Ludwig you have to also cover the original tom mount holes. For now I'll keep both, as I have 2 kits.

What kind of ball joint clamp is that holding your 12 inch tom?

I was hoping you would compare the sound of the drum with each of the two mounts on it. I can understand why you are concerned about movement, but for me, I'm willing to put up with a bit of a challenge if it gives me better sound. Also, as I understand it, the INDe mount is adjustable, to give you more or less of that bounce.

Do you still have the Atlas mount in use? I was hoping for a long term report as I'm thinking of getting a couple of these to replace the Opti-mounts on my kit. Any issues? Some folks have said the mount stresses the shell. Also hoping to make each drum lighter in the process. I use Protection Racket bags that are egg shaped so that shouldn't be an issue with how the Atlas mount protrudes.

Hi, no, i wentback to the optimounts, i fount the resonance better. Ugly as they are, Optimounts are pretty good

Did you adjust the BR3 for how much movement it has? The BR3 is the only direct to shell mount that I have ever known to allow you to control the sustain but adjusting the mount.

Seems like the inde has a smaller footprint and may possibly improve resonance better than the atlas….maybe? I would personally go with the inde

Are the Atlas mounts compatible with center bass drum lugs? Do they have threading on both sides to accommodate top and bottom lugs together? Thanks!

No

Isn't the Atlas mount much bigger than the BR3? Seems like the BR3 might fit in a case better.

The Atlas is bigger, sticks out quite a bit.

@@domzila Great, i was just looking at them, they are very sleek. I just ordered 3, you get a discount if you order 3. If you get BR2s you get 1 free, if they're BR3s, its like $20 off. Shipping is free if you order over $15. I have Some Ludwig atlas mounts, the thing that i don't like is they're so big and heavy. I've heard Josh from INDe is the guy who designed those for Ludwig as well.
