As a former In N Out employee my biggest pet peeve was when someone order is when people say “burger” or “single” it’s too vague and it’s important to know if you want cheese or not. This also extends to saying “protein burger” or “animal burger” because I always have to explain that protein style and animal style is a add-on and not a burger by itself. And it just makes the order take more time and more frustrating. I also hated people that would say #5 or #7 when we literally have 3 combos. Honestly don’t know how people can get confused over the simplest menu

So former In-N-Out employee here. We have 4 questions we ask people when we take orders 1. Do you want onions 2. Do you want fries 3. Did you want anything to drink 4. Did you want it to go? And they ask if you want it to go via the drive through because if you ask for the car they give you a box so its easier to eat, and a little paper mat in case you spill. As for orders you almost got all of them, something you can do is actually add whole grilled onions, you can ask them to cut the burger in half, and you can add chilies to your burger. Animal Style consists of mustard frying the burger while it is on the grill, adding pickles, grilled onions and extra spread on top of the lettuce. You also dont pay for the veggies on the burger, so for example you can actually get a double double with extra everything adding grilled onions and chilies and it would be the same price as a double double plain. Can also ask for 3x2 and 4x2, as well as 2x3 and 2x4s. And can get just 4 meat on a burger, and a grilled cheese with 4 cheese. You can ask for your buns extra toasted, or with no toast. You can also ask for the bun on the side as well. You can get cold cheese on a burger. There's tons of stuff you can do with the burger! Animal fries are delicious, you can ask them to layer the cheese, by having one slice of cheese under some fries and the second one on top, you can also get up to two extra cheese on your animal fries as well. You can also ask for cheese fries. You can even get a whole grilled onion on your animal fries. You can get animal fries well done, or even extra well done. You can get them cooked lighter than usual. We had a customer who asked for a 15 minute fry (normal fries take about 5 minutes to cook) almost every day. I wouldnt recommend eating a grilled cheese from there if you are avoiding meat, they place the cheese on the same grill they use to cook the meat. So cross contamination...

For animal style they also slather mustard on the patty before grilling it. Definitely the move at In-N-Out.

Working at In-N-Out the question "would you like onion" is the most efficient way to ask someone if they wanted tomato. More people ask for "No Tomato" after that question than people saying "Yes I'd like tomato" it's really funny

As an In-N-Out employee, you have to ask about onions because the pictures of the burgers have onions. Most people think that they have onion on the base burger but they don’t. So if we don’t ask about the onion and they actually wanted onion on it then the cooks have to remake the whole burger, not just take it out.

I love that you called the animal style fries "knockoff poutine" because here in canada (quebec specifically) in almost every fast food restaurant now you can get poutine instead of fries which is awesome.

My forever in-n-out order will always be double double animal style, animal style fries, and strawberry if I'm feeling like a shake. Nothing beats this order

Alr lud as a worker of in n out in Temecula California I Have some things to clear up, first of all if you get a burger animal style that adds grilled onions, pickles, and fried mustard, not spread and grilled onions lol, so basically the burger automatically comes with spread lettuce and tomatoes and you can add onions (grilled onions, diced unions, whole grilled onions, raw onions,) peppers, ketchup and mustard. Some possibility's of what you can do to the burger is make the bun extra toasted, no toasted, you can do the cheese cold(idk why), and you can get the meat well done if you like, also I would count it on the secret menu but you can get the burger tomato wrapped as well, which is just lettuce wrapped but tomatoes, For fries besides animal style you can also do just cheese fries and you can get anything that was on the burger on the Fries including grilled onions and peppers (peppers are bomb) for fries you can not only do well but you can do light, light we'll , extra light, and extra well Let's clear something up with the shakes, Ik they suck it's because they are just shake mix we put in the machine, if you want a real shake go to a steak and shake or Carl's Jr. Anyways if you ever wanna stop by my in n out I'll hook u up just lemme know 😺👌🏽

As someone who works at in-n-out it baffles me how wrong they are at almost everything they said😭, the reason we ask if you want onions is because they aren’t on the burger by default. Also an animal style burger is a burger fried in mustard with extra spread, grilled onion and pickle(also not on burger by default).

Double double with grilled and raw onions is amazing, get it every time and the lettuce is always crisp and fresh as well

My parents lived in California before I was born and they loved In-N-Out, and once they moved to Texas we used to drive for over an hour to get it since there weren’t a lot of them nearby when I was younger. We’d get there, eat sitting out the trunk of my moms car, then drive an hour back. It was always like 9 pm by the time we got home. Now there’s one that’s like 10 or 15 minutes away and all of my friends think it’s mid… they (as Texans) of course love whataburger instead. Personally I only like In-N-Out burgers with a non-toasted bun, when they toast the bun it feels crunchy and I don’t really like that.

I feel like one thing people always forget is that when you make a bulk order like this, the quality of all of the food you get goes down compared to just ordering 1 or 2 burgers. The workers see a massive order like this, get fed up, and rush through all of them. That’s why a lot of them look slapped together with too much lettuce or too little of something else.

In-N-Out is consistent and provides a good value for the price. If you want a burger that’s significantly better than a Big Mac for about 2/3 the price, that’s where you go. Fries are mid.

I've been to In-N-Out, Whataburger, and Culver's and they are all really solid places for different reasons. In-N-Outs ingredients and prices are the best. Whataburger is probably my least favorite but it's still incredible for fast food and I see why it's so huge in the south. Culver's is probably my favorite, the cheese and meat and shakes are just amazing, but it's a bit more expensive.

Also as an employee of In-n-out for almost 4 years. Having the quality of food and it all being freah. We can’t make the food last as long. Its meant to be eaten soon after prepared. So if you get it to go and you live a decent distance away from In-n-out i would recommend eating their or on your way home, to get the beat experience and taste.
