Even at the current point in the manga, Luffy has spent more time with Rayleigh than any of the Straw hats. So it makes sense that they have such a strong bond with one another Also with luffy's outfit, instead of wearing a buttoned up vest, he is wearing a long sleeved shirt unbuttoned, with frills on his cuffs and at the bottom of his shirt. Looks more pirate-y and he is proudly showing off the X scar he got on his chest from Akainu

Fish-Man Island hasn't been their destination since Thriller Bark, it's been their destination since post Enies Lobby ever since Kokoro told them about it. It's pretty crazy. They accidentally ran into Thriller Bark, and also accidentally ended up at Sabaody due to running into Camie and Hatchan. Of course, they would've had to go to the latter before Fish-Man anyways for the coating, but it wasn't ever a decided destination.

Fun fact: you kept mentioning how good the soundtrack was. It comes from the opening music during this section called “We Go” which was performed by Hiroshi Kitadani, aka the artist who performed the first intro, “We Are”!

Little trivia. There's a difference between the manga and the anime about Luffy using Gear Second from now on. As explained by Oda, after the timeskip Luffy not only learned to "jump start" Gear Second at will by using any body part instead of the legs, but he can control which part of his body undergoes this boost: in fact, when Luffy one-shots the Pacifista, in the manga he only had his left arm powered up - something that further enhances the refinement and power he has achieved now. In the anime this has not been taken in consideration at all and like before the timeskip, as opposed to the manga, his whole body would still be shown to get boosted.

Fun fact about the pacifistas beams. They're modeled after the light light fruit so those are actually light lasers being fired. Luffy's observation haki can let him dodge light speed attacks.
