Just clarifying, but Troubleshoes is based on the Clydesdale horse breed (and indeed in promotional material part of his name is Clyde), known for their huge size and rounded muzzles. One implication I saw in this episode was how opposing who you are (the cutie mark) can have a horrible effect on your life. Trouble Shoes was always clumsy and yet he seemed a fairly happy colt (at least compared to the depressed hermit he became), but it was only when he decided on his own that he was fated to have bad luck that that clumsiness made his life so awful. He was constantly fighting a internal battle with himself, compelled to go back to the rodeos but refusing to participate in them, which I think caused the destructive accidents to manifest. It's important too that he was not invested in any one part of the rodeo at first, he just wanted to be in the rodeo, hence he tried all sorts of events (just not the rodeo clown role). So its not like his mark made him into something he didn't want to be.

Super-late reply, but I fully agree with your theory! It's even backed up by the situation of Diamond Tiara in her redemption episode - DT's Cutie Mark was earned for being able to get ponies to do what she wants, but she decided - probably because of her mother's input - that she would use that to advance her own position, socially and materially, and make her "better" than anypony else. But deep down, it always made her miserable. When she learned she could turn that talent towards altruistic and unselfish purposes, she became much happier with herself, just as Troubleshoes was content with his talent once he realized ponies were laughing WITH him, not AT him.

So many strange fics and art will be the result of this episode. I shudder at the thought of Troubleshoes/Big Mac shippings. And now so will you. You're welcome. Was I the only one to keep thinking of Marvin from the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy when Troubleshoes spoke?

Okay this episode is great for being a CMC episode and having Braeburn in it. Also this episode is basically a western and the CMC are collectively Clint Eastwood. I like Trouble Shoes for being like Eeyore and being the biggest pony we've seen on the show. The CMC but especially Sweetie Belle are great this episode. Sweetie is great for getting better at magic and being upset about the judges laughing at Trouble Shoes makes sense because it is her biggest fear as shown in Bloom and Gloom and for yet again being the unheard voice of reason. Also more Squeaky Belle. I also love that the CMC are helping ponies with cutie mark problems like Trouble Shoes not understanding his continuing to explore the idea of cutie marks. I also looked it up and Trouble Shoes is voiced by Jim Miller a director who just so happens to have the same name as a real outlaw. I also can't believe Sheriff Silverstar is voiced by Brian Drummond and Braeburn is voiced by a guy named Michael Dangerfield. Also I love the pitchforks and torches joke. And finally Scootaloo is a chicken...sorry but not really sorry about that.

I absolutely love this episode! It actually full on tackles the concept of a pony who misunderstands/doesn't like their cutie mark. Not to mention gives a hint of the CMCs talent in helping ponies understand their marks/discover their talents. One of my favorite CMC episodes! Actually, in my opinion there isn't a bad CMC episode!

They say Troubleshoes is the biggest "pony" they've drawn, but he is clearly a Clydesdale, and that is a HORSE, there's no such thing as a Clydesdale pony. Even his name in one of the synopsis is "Troubleshoes Clyde"

He cant be an appleoosa native. Appleoosa was founded 2 years ago. (in over a barrel it was said 1 year and now were pretty much one year after that) But i dont think hes from another country either. Since the flashbacks show him as a foal at a western town rodeo, (maybe dodge junction?) he either was born in a western town or he moved there from a nearby town as traveling to another country all alone seems highly dangerous for a child especially with the kind of wildlife ponyearth has to offer.

Big Mac, meet Double Quarter Pounder With Cheese. 10:00 Sweetie also uses magic to close the door. My (sniffle) little squeaker's growin' up. There are plans ahoof for her character, mark my words! (Sadly, tricking the Sheriff into leaving renders her big show with the keys completely irrelevant.) Totally agree with your assessment; good fun but this one comes out on the not-thought-completely-through side. The competing moral issues ("don't lie," "adjust your dreams") dilute each other, YES THEY ARE LAUGHING AT HIM, the aforementioned why-do-this-if-you're-gonna-do-that bit with the keys isn't even played for laughs, the Rodeo Clown Solution is talked out waaay before it's shown and executed (a HUGE show-writing no-no) and finally, Troubleshoes is still a walking disaster. Time would have been better spent showing how his fellow clowns plan to prevent him from killing somepony, even if it turns out collapsing hay Jenga towers aren't dangerous after all. Oh well, they can't all be five-star eps. Every season seems to stub its hoof a little around this point, but it's been one out-of-the-ballpark hit after another for me so far so I ain't complainin'. ...Much.

@ScreamingScallop9 жыл бұрын
Luffyiscool Hence "around this point" rather than "at this point." It's not an exact science. I'm sure we'll disagree on some eps, and I don't HATE any of them, but my LFEs per season are Look Before You Sleep (108), May The Best Pet Win! (207) and Mysterious Mare Do Well* (208), and Too Many Pinkie Pies* (303, but s3 is a half-length season)...and while I like it a lot, Power Ponies would have benefited greatly by going through one more draft, just like Appleoosa's Most Wanted. *Okay, yes, I do hate these two. I won't watch TMPP ever again. "Behave or you'll be herded into a room and executed one by one until only the least annoying one is left" is the reigning champion gold medalist in the Bad Moral category, and MMDW makes me wonder how many ponies die screaming every time Dash leaves Ponyville for a couple of days on an adventure.
@rollingthunder10436 жыл бұрын
"tricking the Sheriff into leaving renders her big show with the keys completely irrelevant.)" I respectfully disagree. How could they safely unlock the door with him sat right there? They needed to get rid of him. Granted they could have simply walked in and picked up the keys once he was gone, but that doesn't make the levitation "irrelevant" to me, just another, equally valid technique

Luffyiscool 1. 1:18 Apple Bloom: "I want a lasSO!" I've never heard any Southerner pronounce it that way. Maybe that's a Canadian thing? 2. 3:10 "You have a habit of doing that, don't you? Poking people's injuries." Are you talking about Big Mac's torso injury? That way back in Applebuck Season, the fourth episode of the whole series! Does twice in five seasons really count as a habit? 3. 3:19 Braeburn: "I guess I got so caught up watching you that I..." Luffy: "This is fueling the incest fics." People are really going to make something out of *that?* Talk about desperate! 4. 8:40 "She's about to break your *other* arm." Maybe that's how the first one got broken. 5. 11:27 "He's massive!" We've finally found someone that could give Big Mac a run for his bits. 6. 21:56 "And again we're consistently bringing up cutie mark magic and what cutie marks mean." I wonder how many different ways they can explore this issue in the space of one season.

+JournaloftheWiccan late reply, I know. I see it this way: Troubleshoes was doing all these tricks, enjoying the rodeo performance he was giving, and got his Cutie Mark while doing them. It was only AFTER he got his Cutie Mark that he messed up and the judges laughed at him. He then jumped to the false conclusion "ohh, I got my Cutie Mark for messing up at a rodeo, I must have bad luck as a destiny", when that's not why he got his Cutie Mark at all.
