Ah yes, the times we thought Cozy Glow was going to be an innocent pony, good times. Edit: I mean, she is a great villain, but she was also a great good guy.

Looking back at this episode, knowing Cozy Glow's plan all along, it's actually a brilliant contrast. The entire first act is the CMC failing to act like bad friends, and then we get one pony who's so *good* at acting friendly that even some of the *audience* is fooled.

At 5:11 that dead poet society reference was absolutely golden. RIP Robin Williams

I don't know about this Cozy Glow character. The way the Elements reflected in her eyes and the look on her face, when she thought the Element of Magic represented control, and even the fact that her cutie mark is a rook, which when used as a verb means to "take money from someone by cheating, defrauding, or overcharging them", which also could have a different meaning but same idea in this context. The rook is the lapdog of the bosses, and they "usually work to protect their leader and punish those who seek to undermine their superior." They also "constantly work to gain their leader’s approval." Rooks are the henchmen, bodyguards, and the devoted followers. She is definitely up to something...

My first thought was also that Cozy was someone sent to teach the CMC a lesson. I'm definitely leaning towards villain now. A villain who is now friends with the little sisters of the Mane Six. What better way to get at them than through their family? And how exactly did she end up at the club house by accident? What was she doing in the middle of Sweet Apple Acres if she wasn't looking for them? I could be wrong, but I dunno. I'm getting serious creepy child vibes from her.

After seeing Cozy Glow‘s acting and her chess cutie mark i also think that she‘s that manipulative type villain with a masterplan. After she can’t be Chrysalis i think she works for Chancellor Neightsay, maybe she is his daughter. Not sure about that, haven’t seen his cutie mark yet, maybe it’s also a chess piece. Can’t wait to see more of her.

Starlight is just the best!

Darla Dimple, Baby Doll, Gideon Gleeful, when as ANY animated character that acts THAT cute and sweet not turned out to be some evil manipulator? Add in all the clear cues added in. They would not pick a Cutie Mark like that without good reason. And above all of that, is the fact she JUST happens to be completely out of the way, far from the school, in the middle of private property, just in ear shot of the clubhouse, JUST as the CMC are trying to get into the school, the perfect place, the perfect time, on top of all the signs of there being something up with her.... Theory I like is that she's Neighsay's niece or otherwise connected to him working as a mole in the School to help him get his revenge. Ep as a whole, it was good, I really do not see the issue with Twi here, people CAN make those kinds of snap decisions. But, the cleaning thing was not them being punished, that was just Cheerilee saving the school money on a janitorial staff. But also, but drawn out and padded. Still a solid ep overall. Also, Tia was not 'quickly dismissive' of Twilight in ACW, Twi fucked up big time there as far as anyone else could tell.

Am I the only one who didn't hate Twilight in this episode? She did the responsible thing and, as headmistress of the school of friendship, she has a responsibility towards her students. She had to step in. Also, she didn't jump to conclusions. She did asked the CMC if they really were Cozy Glow's tutors like she claimed. She had good reasons to be upset and accuse them and her actions were in-character for her personality. (you said yourself that she likes to be in control) It made sense for her to be fooled by Cozy Glow. Twilight is not perfect. She has flaws and sometimes she makes mistakes. This is part of what makes her interesting.

Fluttershy was teaching about the different phylums (taxonomy) of animals in the first montage of the season premiere (in the second part of it, Twilight replaces a real life spider for a very detailed draw of their internal anatomy). . Applejack is teaching "earth pony stuff" like the EEA would about growing crops. . Rainbow Dash´s physical training/sports (also shared with Applejack in this episode) may guide some of the young adult ponies into finding their vocation for their respective race in the E.U.P. or the royal guards. . Pinkie Pie will surely teach them how to cook all kinds of stuff (I wonder how will she manage the problem with the carnivores in her class... Fish?). . Rarity´s clases probably also include math (something necesary for a self-made entrepreneur like her) and New_Ponish [she is the most fluent of the mane six in CURRENT speach/language]. As the Headmaster of the school, Twilight is kinda a wild card [in principle she should NOT had to give any classes, but given the current lack of professors she has to "complement" the students education (rather than "suplement" it with extra stuff).

This was a very...strange episode. I saw many routes that they could have easily taken down but instead it was just an excuse to give Starlight some purpose. Cozy Glow seems very untrustworthy and suspicious. Good thing though, we know this school is somewhat like an all ages college, evident by the flexible schedules and giant and diverse building.

Overall, this was a very well-written episode. It's different because we usually see exactly what the problem or conflict is, and the story aims to try and resolve it. In this case, however, the problem isn't revealed until the third act. We see everything going right for a change, and then something unexpected happens. It's cleverly misleading, too. I genuinely thought Cozy Glow was going to be revealed as a villain, who was taking advantage of the CMCs to get revenge on them or something. But no. It turns out she was just trying to help in a way nobody could've predicted. Well, except for Applegeek. It's great to see the Crusaders and Starlight have found their place at Twilight's school now, and it opens all sorts of possibilities for the future. Season 7 will always be the strongest in terms of great episodes for me. But Season 8 is definitely a close second. Anyway, I've spoken too long already. I think I've been spoiled on the next episode, but hopefully it should still be great.

This episode was kinda all over the place: started off goofy, then sad, then sweet, then sad again, and ended with major sweetness, heh. Still a good one, in my books, with a lot to appreciate. I hadn't imagined that the Crusaders would know so little about the School of Friendship. It begs the question of why their sisters never showed them around it before. Could they have thought that they'd get envious of what it had to offer and make them less attentive at Cheerilee's school? Well, that seems to be the case either way, as they were all for wanting to transfer. I mean, the school does look like a lot of fun, but what would Cheerilee have to say about them wanting to transfer out? We never even get a hint as to what kind of effect that would have. Besides, as Twilight pointed out, the school's for learning about friendship, and the girls are already too good at being friends to need to attend. As Starlight pointed out, they'd be much better at teaching friendship instead of learning what they already know. You caught on to that idea way sooner than I did, lol. Dunno why it never clicked with me before. Still, the ways they tried to weasel their ways in were pretty crazy to watch, from back-sassing to 'Repeaty Belle' to the return of Shimmering Spectacles to bad, bad acting, lol. Honestly, I never suspected Cozy Glow of having dubious intentions. I didn't think she was a pony in disguise, a Changeling, or even somepony sent by Starlight to help the Crusaders. She's just a sweet little filly who's new in town and in need of help, and the Crusaders provided. There are a few uncertain points about her, I'll admit, like her misinterpretation of some of the Elements and her rook chess piece cutie mark, but we don't know enough about her to say anything for certain yet. Your idea of her coming from a tough neighborhood, with a griffon-esque 'everypony for themselves' ideology, and seeing the School of Friendship as her way of overcoming what she's had to grow up with, sounds very plausible to me. Whatever the case, she allowed the Crusaders to demonstrate just how good they are at teaching friendship, and to show they had no ulterior motives, not even using it as an excuse to get into the School of Friendship. Cozy failing her test after all the studying she did, and Twilight blaming the Crusaders for it really threw me for a loop. To think Twi would accuse them of setting Cozy up to fail as an act of spite for not being allowed in, without even letting them give their own side of the story...Even if the girls have done some rather boneheaded things in the past, especially to earn their cutie marks, Her Studiousness ought to know the Crusaders better than that to think they'd ever be so intentionally underhanded and cruel. Still, what you said about Twilight being personally offended by seeing this as a mockery of her brainchild does lend a little weight to her jumping to conclusions, and I have to give this episode some credit for putting a 'your mom' joke into MLP, lol Thank goodness for Starlight. Poor Glimmy's felt unneeded as a guidance counselor (though I don't think Twi would've hired her on without good reason), and Cozy provided exactly what she needed: a chance to show off her considerable skills as a counselor, and pull a very meme-worthy face after realizing Cozy is something of a kindred spirit, XD. In all seriousness, though, Cozy failing on purpose to get the CMCs into the school was very misguided, but she had good intentions. If she really did have mean-spirited intentions, why would she have cared about getting the trio into trouble? And after all, when have we not seen the wrong things done for the right reasons in this show? Heck, we saw an instance of that just earlier this season, in Horse Play. The final meeting in Twi's office does seem to generate some mixed feelings, I'll admit. For being so harsh and accusatory with the girls, it would've behooved Twi to say she was sorry for the misunderstanding. The implication's clearly there, with the way she said 'I know that, now' with that kind smile on her face, but it's not quite the same, and rewarding them isn't the same as owning up to her mistakes. Even so, time constraints or no, what she gives them shouldn't be ignored, as it constitutes something big and new for the CMCs. Ever since the girls got their marks, each new episode for them feels like another next step forward for them in the destinies. First learning what to do with their talents, then helping ponies and even creatures without cutie marks, then opening a day camp for blank flanks, then going on Map missions, and now taking part in the School of Friendship as tutors, with honorary diplomas to boot! Not bad for ponies who never even attended the school (not for lack of trying, mind you, lol) They've come a long way, and I'm so proud of them.

This is among my favorite episodes of the season and the series.

Yeah, Cozy Glow was so damn suspicious at times here, it kept throwing me off. The way she talks (ignoring the fact that she's basically a Sherly Temple pony), the odds of her going all the way to the Apple orchard and specifically choosing to sit close to the clubhouse before crying(though, considering she was meant to help Big Mac, I guess it makes sense she just happened to end up there), the fact she clearly failed her test on purpose, not to mention her expression when she had Twilight's cutie mark in her eyes, I at first thought she was going to either be the next Diamond Tiara, or, as you mentioned Changelings as a possibility), I kept thinking she was a certain Ex-Queen trying to use the CMC to get something... at least until it was clear Cozy Glow felt bad for getting the CMC in the trouble they ended up in

Quite a few fans had their suspicions about Cozy Glow at the start. I asked Terry Klassen and Sunny Westbrook if they had the future in mind when this episode was recorded. They answered that while they did know that Cozy Glow would be the Season 8 finale villain, but did yet not know how she would get there.

The cutie mark being a chess piece also indicates her special talent is strategic thinking and manipulating opponents. It explains why she would have difficult time with the very concept of friendship since friendship is kind of the opposite of those things. Also, one of the most powerful moves in chess is performed with the rook and the king, in which the rook and the king switch places.

When I first watched this episode, I thought Cozy Glow faked being friendly and being bad on her test on purpose just to get the CMC in trouble because she reminds me of the sweet but evil Miss Darling Dimple from the movie Cats Don't Dance. I didn’t even pick up in the Shirley Temple comparison! I cannot unsee it now...Ibwas suspicious of Cozy Glow when she appeared because she was outside the CMC’s clubhouse which is clearly on the Apples’ farm, so I was trying to under why she was even on their property? I her answer of control when she was studying for her test was a sort of red flag to me...All the points in her behavior that you pointed out was so well thought out. I hope your theory of her is true as I think the show would really benefit representing a pony from a rough neighborhood...As for Twilight, her rush to judgement with the CMC’s felt out of place considering she should know them well enough not to immediately come to that conclusion...I also think the scene where the CMC were acting horribly at fighting would have worked better if Fluttershy and Piknie Pie knew they were faking and such hinted at it near the end of the scene, but it is what it is...I do think Cody Glow will come back later in the season since they provided so much information of her and her little quirks and slightly manipulated behavior had a lot of focus for a one-off character...Either way we shall see in the future and as always, keep in being awesome Applegeek Sir! I also see it as Twilight being stressed with this new job. It's causing her to make mistakes. Like how she had Applejack and Rainbow do the field trip despite it being obvious they shouldn't be. And then let it continue despite how it was obviously endangering the students. It's kinda like they are trying to show that Neigh Say wasn't entirely in the wrong.
