This episode had some pretty sweet sisterly moments but those scootaloo and dash ones are what really melted me.

Scootaloo was adorable beyond words in this episode.

How Rockhoof "evolved" into his adult perfect form? -> He hit something with his shovel. Why did the volcano suddenly erupted? (in pony controled Equestria) -> Something magical got embebbed on the ground and give it power. My theory: a star_fragment (like one of those 4 that released Nightmare Moon) fall into it and Rockhoof also casually found it while digging near the volcano.

More like Norse, my dude, they're Vikings. XD

I love how these episodes tie in with the MLP comics. This episode was a nod to the Legends of Magic series and I loved it. My favorite legend in this episode was Mistmane because giving up one's own beauty in order save an entire land from dying is a great act of heroism. My other favorite Legend is the one about Somnambula which is what you will see in the episode Daring Done. I'm glad your back Luffy. My day wouldn't be the same without you. I hope you can catch up on your episodes of MLP without seeing or hearing any spoilers.

Small trivia here, Mistmane's legend is mainly Chinese culture inspired with minor Japanese and Korean influences, and the horn designs might be inspired by the Chinese unicorn that has curved horns!

If you listen to that pegasus Commander, he's that voice actor in Skyrim who voices most of the male Orcs you meet.

Yay! My favorite reactor is back!! And life happens, so the Luffy Hiatus is totally understandable. Mist Mane was definitely my favorite legend. And seeing Rainbow being more big sisterly to Scootaloo was very adorable. And yes, the Sphinx will be in the Daring Don't episode. By the way, the pony in Applejack's story grew out of sheer will and determination. :)

Rockhoof was Hiccup only to evolve into Thor! Whereas Mistmane’s duel mirrors Zuko Vs Azula in terms of the nature of it.

When I first saw this, I was kinda worried about what happened to their camping tents and supplies. It made me wonder if they ever made their way back to the camp area later to gather what was left of their stuff.

I was getting a real Hiccup vibe from Applejack's story, Rockhoof. Starts off weak and the other villagers make fun of him, but he ends up saving the day. Toss in a viking-esque setting and bam. Also, it's "Magic Mirror on the wall" ;-)

Plus, Discworld was two 'years' one complete turn of the seasons, and one full rotation of the Disc, the latter takes two of the former. And as to no firm number of months, true.. but we DO know that Winter lasts three months.

Considering that the first line of Winter Wrap Up is "Three months of winter coolness," I think it's safe to assume that Equestria has twelve months in a year. Edit: However, this episode must take place between Hearthbreakers and A Hearth's Warming Tail, considering that the CMC did not have their cutie marks in Sleepless in Ponyville, that Apple Bloom did have her cutie mark in Hearthbreakers, that A Hearth's Warming Tail takes place a year after Hearthbreakers, and that this episode takes place a year after Sleepless in Ponyville.

This is a great episode. The legends are great. The way the main story ties in with the legends is great. The character development on Scootaloo is fantastic.

In the comic about Rockhoof we learn that he became strong by working out. I guess over time the "Legend" became less historically accurate and more mythical.

Flash Magnus looks like he might be related to Flash Sentry. As for Rockhoof the whole power up thing it is just that at times legends get retold so often that the details get fantasized to be far greater than they really were. What I mean by that is the comic MLP: Legends of Magic issue two goes more into Rockhoof's legend a little bit but then tells of a second legend about him. As for the very small call back to this story the comic did it stated that Rockhoof didn't just magically grow stronger, in the comic it said that after Rockhoof was told he was to weak he started training and digging to grow stronger and after years of hard work and determination he grow strong enough to save the village. (Plus earth pony magic helps too.) On a side note if you don't know, the new IDW comic series called "My Little Pony: Legends of Magic" is designed to tie into MLP season seven. With issues two, three, and four continuing the tales of the legendary ponies Rockhoof, Mistmane and Flash Magnus respectively. I haven't got to read them yet but I did however see some reviews of them and got a sneak peek at some previews of the comics and I think they look very good so I think I'll get them once I get a chance. I'm especially interested in issue 7. Also hope you had a nice Sunset Shimmer day.

Yas! My favorite reactor back in action! I absolutely loved seeing your reactions this time, especially the Scoots and Rainbow interactions. I really love Mist Mane the most, can't help but the Asian theme really was beautiful! But Flash Magnus was amazing as well! I felt there wasn't as much context with the Rock Hoof one, but it was still nice. Again always a pleasure watching your reactions!

This was an amazing episode. It'd have been good anyway, but the Mistmane story is what really made it one of a kind. That is one of those incredible moments in this show. Wouldn't have minded seeing a full episode about that. It reminded me of A:TLA, thanks to the East-Asian setting, and the story just in general. Even the way the story was told and narrated in the flashback reminded me of certain A:TLA episodes like "The Avatar & The Firelord". I did enjoy the symbolism of the Rockhoof story, and the almost Odysseus vibe of the Flash Magnus one. But overall, they really don't compare with the Mistmane part. Also, this has made me wonder if Unicorns as well as Alicorns originally evolved from that Asian-looking part of their World. As you'll notice, all of the ponies in there are Unicorns, and with a very distinct look. Mistmane's mane is also flowing, like Celestia and Luna's. Then, if you look at King Sombra, he has a similarly curved horn to these "Asian" ponies, and he's the only other pony besides those three who has also had a flowing mane. So it'd make sense that Unicorns and Alicorns originally evolved from there and the ones who moved out eventually changed in appearance. Then obviously the Alicorns died away at some point. It's very interesting. The other stories represent Earth Ponies and Pegasi, so that might perhaps be a hint at their possible origins too.

Mistmane is definitely heavily inspired by Asian culture, with a lot of Chinese influence. The curved horns remind me a lot of the qilin - a Chinese unicorn. :D

I have to admit, I didn't like seeing a pony who could bend plunder vines to her will, even though it's just a story, but that's what my ocs talent is, soo...yeah. Also I think Mist Mane is the first pony we've seen with gradient hooves.

Thoughts from this episode: 1. Norse, Chinese, Roman. Cool! (Edited from Greek and Japanese) 2. World building 3. Timeline plotpoint 4. What did that shovel pony hit! 5. HOW DO SHADOWS WORK!! 6. Unicorns can't use earth magic or it drains them of life! Then Twilight using magic to grow the crops in ep 11 WAS EARTH PONY MAGIC!!! Earth pony magic explained!! 7. Young Torch?! Cool! Then he must be serving his time's dragon lord. 8. Cute bonding moments between "sisters"! 9. Dang it, was wishing Vincent was FLASH Magnus. Would have made that too perfect. 2nd watch: 1. Wait, lava doesn't flow that fast! And looking closer, he should have gotten burned! 2. AHHHH!! Twilight dancer flashback! Whyyyyy!! 3. That cave must be really unstable if it took I kick to create a collapse. How are they not dead yet? 4. Wait what? Oh! Earth pony magic allows you to light fires really quickly. Ok! And, by the Nordic and Chinese stories, we know that earth ponies can handle and control the magic of the earth without destroying themselves in the process. Mistmane was basically an earth pony for the rest of her life, earth magic flowing out of her constantly. However, it destroyed her connection to other magic. 5. Wow, more hate on spike. And after a spike episode too! 6. Ok, enchanted item recap from this ep. We have the rock of strength, used to help the greeks and probably ties into a thor relic. And we have the shield of fire resistance, probably tieing back to Titus? God of IDK. 7. Did Flash just make a hoverboard? Fire surfboard? Whatever it is, Cool! 8. Wait, the cave goes down and water flows down. But it is said they were heading towards falls and when the arrive, the falls are in a clearing. So does this mean they were hiking up a mountain just to go down it? Though, the falls could be in a clearing in a secluded part of the forest but the falls are in perfect view of the skies.... This makes no sense!! Big deal of this episode: EARTH PONY MAGIC!! Unicorns who use earth pony magic are drained of their life force and pernamently radiate earth magic. Only an alicorn's power can stop from being consumed by said use of magic, explaining ep 11. Her flowing mane also explains that a high abundance of magic can affect how a mane works. This has come up on other comments so I will address it. The first story of Rockhoof is meant to be symbolic, that through determination, he changed in the eyes of the public from a scrawny kid to a capable man. It is not literal. The 2nd story of Mistmane is personal sacrifice for the good of others as well as knowing that beauty is a blessing and a curse. Lastly, the story of Flash Magnus is about how out thinking an opponent is just as important as strength. Without both, each fail on their own. Teamwork creates success. The last lesson of the episode is shown in the CMC's excitement to stay at the falls. While hard times accompany you to your goal, the end achievement makes all the pain worth it. And, if you look back on it, you can see fun and lessons where anger and hate used to be.

I don't know if it's just me, but I'm getting a lot of "The Avatar and The Firelord" vibes from the legend of Mistmane.

Flash Magnus im pretty sure wasnt based on Greek myths. The only country back then that had " The Legion" was ROME. I think they based the hero in Dash's story on Roman myths.

Wow i'm surprised the fandom hasn't named the Green dragon in this episode yet. The dragon almost looks like Reginald from "Owl's well that ends well" (Season 1).

This was a pretty fun episode; I love the lore that they brought with this episode it was a lot of fun. Also nice continuity there with the last time they went camping, that's always fun to see. Rarity's story was probably my favorite, which is weird since Rainbow is my favorite character; but Rarity's story just resenated with me in a certain way. But Rainbow's story was definitely my second favorite story. Applejack's story was fun as well, but I just personally prefered Rarity and Rainbow's story myself. But all three were good. Also the moments with Rainbow and Scootaloo were just adorable, loved them! Great reaction and can't wait for more! XD.

I feel like Rockhoof's power came in a similar way to Twilight becoming an alicorn but with earth pony magic. There's magic in friendship but I'm p sure there's magic in other things as well like perserverence in the face of what seems to be an impossible challenge. That's just my theory tho, could be any number of things

Some legends are meant to be embellished. ;) Had you paid attention to when RD was about to start her story and Scoots jumps to her side, you'd probably squeek then as well. That soft smile on RD right there. :D Now, if you really want to get into years, why not count them based on the period when the apples are ripe enough to be shaken out of the trees (assuming the episodes are in chronological order). Notice I said period, so one could count season 1 episodes 1-4 as one period as they ripen. Hm... On some other note, wonder if I should get your OC into SFM, either just for the fun of it or to be used in some animation (not that you'd react to it or anything).

In Rainbowdash's legend will be "This is the best Flash" quote, won't it? Edit after watching: Oh, there wasn't but it was in description so I'll say that I was right! Kinda... How many people can mistake Pompei (Roman) with Vikings? I always thought Viking's mythology was more popular, I mean I watched five reactors and three of them made the same mistake. Well, what can you do? The word you were looking for was chinese with a little japanese and korean influence (but mostly chinese), as for Curved Horns and pointy ears it's inspired by Qilin or Kirin from Chinese mythology, basically half horses half dragons (which is BADASS! Just look at Kirin in Monster Hunter). As for their origins in MLP universe... I think Twilight said something about EASTERN Equestria so who knows? Maybe we'll get there someday. And finally Roman... not too much to say there aside from that our King Torch (probably before being Dragon Lord) is smaller in legend than today. Perhaps that's how big dragons can become or just animation "error"/discontinuity. PS. You could think of something more creative than "Flash Magnus is best Flash.", at this point it's just boring.
