I totally feel for the sad scenes but it is the happy ones that really make me cry. Ace’s death was really sad, but these happy realizations are what rip the tears off me. Luffy was at his lowest, literally as the scene illustrates, choked on regret and powerlessness. Yet, without even reminding himself of them, just being prompted by Jinbei, the relationships he forged and nurtured with his friends just organically started lifting the weight off his shoulders by just remembering how good they were to him in his everyday life. That overwhelming hope and relief in your darkest times when you remind you are not alone and that nothing can take away from you the bonds you have sacrificed to build (and if something Luffy has done was to EARN his friendship with each of his nakama with blood). The scene of vindication and justice of seeing a person reap the fruits of his selflessness in his darkest hour makes me choke up everytime.

Man, it's been so long that I forget sometimes why Luffy cares for Jimbei so much, and it's because jinbei was there for luffy when no one else was able to be.
