I love the parallel here with Enies Lobby. Back then, Robin begged Luffy not to fight CP9 because it would mean declaring war on the world government. Then he said he didn't care and shot down their flag. Here, CP0 is ordered not to fight Luffy because the World Government doesn't want to declare war on an Emperor. Then Lucci said he didn't care and started punching.

Oda is a masterful writer. Another detail I’d like to point out is when Luffy was about to use Gatling, Lucci used a single finger like in Enies Lobby before quickly switching to his whole fist. He knew the same trick wouldn’t work on this new matured Luffy

I never understood why people said Gear 5 can’t be serious. We find it hilarious because we’re not the ones staring down someone who can distort the world like this, all the while giggling like a mad man. That reflection in Lucci’s eyes is what Kaido and Lucci saw Gear 5 to be, and that’s a scary picture.

I mean... Luffy now is a force that very few in the entire world can take on directly without preparations, both in a physical sense and a political one. Luffy may not use the second on his own volition very much as it isnt his style, but now... he is one of the power moving things. Yeah, the animation reflects Nika’s personality and the awakened Zoan taking over. It’s overflowing with creativity as it has just been reawakened, but the serious laugh once he stares into Lucci’s eyes is perfect. He stops making the ground around him rubbery and hones in on his target. Same way Lucci is depicted to be a crazy animal at some parts of the episode. For certain frames Lucci loses his mind to his awakening

I for one don't like it. Goofiness aside, the cool thing about luffy was how he has been at a disadvantage most of the times. but in truth he possessed the most OP fruit the entire time. The big 3 really loved to picture the MC as the underdog and then give them the most insane powers of the verse, One piece was the exception but alas all roads lead to Rome.

Kaido took like a million hits from him after fighting like everybody while holding up an island. Just because Luffy was capable of doing damage and eventually winning doesn't mean his attack power is so overwhelming that it would take hax to take even one shot.

I grew up obsessed with Trickster gods. I read all the stories from myths from all over the world. The chaotic deities that flipped the world on its head for S&Gs. Luffy’s laugh before he launched Lucci across the map reminded me of how I’d imagined Coyote laughing at whatever poor sod managed to offend him. Those guys usually ended up less than happy.
