I get what you're saying, but Dorts style and intensity puts pressure on his defender. It doesn't look like hes going for hard stops, considering he takes contact with his chest only a lot to avoid fouls. Hes just constantly there, that's enough to rattle a lot of all star caliber players.

For some other exemple, rewatch Jrue Holiday in the last finals with the Bucks. Just watch him be "in the nose" of CP3 everytime he crossed halfcourt. And on the supposedly bad matches of Jrue where he's 6/21or something, well CP3 has no game on the other end. Or you could wtach Pj Tucker 38 min for zero points, and he's still super important ! That's just one exemple of how a good defensive effort can apply alot of pressure and make an elite player have a night off. Even if it don't show on stats, or even the replay. And he's already made of the same wood. He doesn't let go.

taking away the first choice / forcing bad shots is a big part of defense.

@@chrisp3005 no what I'm saying is that Donovan had open shots coming off of screens or whatever, but he would hesitate to shoot or he would dribble right into the defense. That's a problem a lot of NBA players have nowadays, making the game tougher for themselves. If you're open, shoot the ball, don't hesitate or pass up an open layup and kick it out so someone can brick a three.

Dort can't really do much more in most cases, the number of screens on dort is absurd, team defense should be better imo

@@remstang9321 that's exactly why I think it's Donovan's fault. He's catching a quick break from Dort being all over him and doesn't take advantage of it. But he's been doing stuff like that since the beginning of the season and it's really ugly to watch.

@@tachyon8875 there's something called rhythm shots...not alotta players can just catch it and shoot with any posture at the slightest window...thats for players like Steph, Reddick, Duncan Robinson, Klay.... Mitchell, Murray, Lillard are more rhythm shooters, Steph is sometimes too...they feel more comfortable dribbling into their spots or creating the move for the shot because thats what they practice. Real hoopers understand. some shots you dont shoot, not cause its bad, but cause it isnt YOUR shot..
