@@rudrarudram937I’m sorry you feel that way but Toastmasters has you exploring all the facets in giving a great speech. Their manuals, now nonexistent, focused on all the different areas of giving a great speech. Some of these included vocal variety, usage of props, interjecting humor, storytelling and delivering a message. I tried to incorporate all of these to make it a well rounded speech. I realize my style isn’t for everyone and I welcome everyone’s comments. Thank you!

I myself been a TM , a CC but abandoned the proceedings mostly on personnel grounds.Moreover I felt this whole process wont lead you to be a public speaker, but an actor of some kind , an infrequent event at any rate in a country like ours making use an immensely rich native language, that is Sinhalese for that type of events! Further I gathered most speeches whether humorous or not must make the audience burst in to laughs to impress the judges. The speaker has to perform rather than speaking with lot of acting. Nevertheless I am not against any component of TM movement but simply realized it is not for me and many others in our region who fell apart from the clubs at the faster rate than join.

Since I'm not part of Toastmasters, I don't quite get what's great about this talk. It's a nice talk, but it's not a very interesting talk. It's not like a good Ted Talk or a good stand up comedian. I expected more impact from an organization that helps people speak better.

It's hard for you to understand since you are not a toastmaster .unless you meet a toastmaster and they can explain to you why this is an amazing speech
@prudvinathmalepati3322
@prudvinathmalepati3322 4 жыл бұрын
First thing is, unlike Ted talk or a standup show, you have to deliver a meaningful speech in 7 minutes (with 30 seconds grace). Your speech has to abide by so many rules. Also, most of the speakers are not professional speakers. We all are learning how become effective speakers. Hope it gives you some context. It's extremely hard to explain it in a comments section. Maybe someone with better communication skills can explain it better here. Speak to a Toastmaster to understand 'why this speech is great'. Try delivering a 7 minute speech with a universal message and imagine delivering it in front of some 3000+ strangers and then understand that you are in front of people from 140+ countries. That's one of the best ways to understand the greatness of the speaker and the speech.

When I was a little girl, my mother enrolled me in ballet and for the next 8 years I attended classes and learned what and how to correctly dance ballet. I now scrutinize every single ballet performance because I know what to look for and what to expect. It’s almost the same for a good speech. After being trained and taught what to look for in a good speaker through Toastmasters, you become more aware of what makes an average speech and what makes a great speech. I encourage you to visit a club near you and welcome you to write a speech and compete!!! It’s truly an amazing experience!! Good luck!!

@@luisamontalvo106 I did once because I expected Toastmasters to be interesting. And it was over an hour drive away (mostly my fault, since I found it via meetup.com, and they didn't have all of them). But people's speeches felt relatively ordinary. Not to say that my own speaking couldn't be improved, and it was interesting seeing the feedback people were getting. But delivery aside, the core content was usually not very interesting.

Mirza Saad Baig , I’m on the fence about whether I deserved to win 1st runner up. I know how much time and effort I put into this and how many hours I spent practicing it. I tweaked it over 40 times to make all the words and thoughts flow they way I wanted it to. Then I saw my performance and counted 14 mistakes I made so I questioned whether I should have placed at all! However I will tell you this, as another Toastmaster put it, I’ve lost some I feel I should’ve won and won some I should’ve lost. I’ll take this win for all the other times I lost and felt I should’ve won. Sorry we disappointed you.
