I think the stats that you used would work fine for a striker, but a lot of crucial stats for midfielders are missing - passing accuracy, interceptions, tackles, dribble success rate, successful balls into the final third, and more. On another note, all of them are legends regardless of what these stats tell you.

Yes, correct and I would take Iniesta and Xavi any day compared to the boring Kroos and the mood player Modric. And the question is how important for example those assists were to achieve something and it comes out in Trophies they have won. 2010 WC, would they win without Iniesta and Xavi’s dream assists to Torres. Same goes with winning EURO. And of course, Torres again….

Let’s remember Luka Modric arrived to Real Madrid at 27yo, before that he was never on any top dominant team, while Iniesta and Xavi we’re always in an ultra dominant team, which makes much easier to score more goals and assists. Although, goals and assists is never a reference to prove anything in the position they play, they are not attacking midfielders (just Iniesta). Also, this video is not updated with RMs last trophies, and both Modric and Kroos still have time to keep winning.

Not xavi’s fault modric peaked later in life. We won’t start counting modric’s career from Real Madrid because that’s not where it started. He was at Spurs before that and Spurs isn’t a small team if anything.

Difficult choice because the numbers are cold. Luka at 36 years old, he's still top of the elite. He attacks and defends. He,s very dynamic. Great shot from medium and long distance, refined technique,... For me, Modric. Anyway, great job!

They left a big void in Fcb and in Spain national team which I think will take years to fill. Modric was one of those avarage midfielder When xavi and Iniesta Bossed midffield. As Xavi left followed by Iniesta a few years later Modric started to get that attention and you think hes better than them.

Okay, I'm a madrid fan and I love modric. He was madrids best midfielder for a while, but let's not get confused. Xavi is by a margin the better of the 4 in passing. The man averaged greater than 90% pass accuracy in most of his games during his prime. On top of that he was also a goal scoring threat and his vision to play through balls between the lines is better than the other 3. Dribbling by far goes to iniesta, but out of all the midfielders there. It's xavi, modric, iniesta, and then kroos. Personally though, I don't think kroos should be linked with the other 3. He's great, but the others were on a different level

Si viste jugar al Barça y a España, sabrás que en algunos partidos en los que Xavi no jugó o fue cambiado, es Iniesta el que asume el rol de Xavi, haciendo los mismos números y manejando el juego igual. I guess creating that diplomatic good guy persona does help, cuz journalists sure seem to Love Leo. Anytime they don't see a clear choice, they just give it to Messi like a consolation prize. What makes it even worse is, Sneijder didn't even finish top 3, being the best player of world cup finalists and treble winning Inter, he didn't even finish top 3, that's mind boggling for me and no one questions it even. People question 2013 when Ribery did win treble but was individually so far off Cristiano, it's unrealistic he actually thought he's gonna win, but no one questions 2010 when it comes to Messi.

@@GodOfWar05100 holding mid is a better way of putting it, as “defensive mid” brings the impression that they are always defensive-dominant players, when in fact they just play deeper in their own half than Central Midfielders. For example, Andrea Pirlo was a brilliant holding mid, yet was quite poor defensively. So Xavi play as a holding mid doesn’t mean he’s good defensively, as it’s just a position, not a role.

The problem with assist stats is that it depends on the ability of the finisher you are passing to. And for goal stats it depends on the quality of the team feeding you.

Modric hands down! Won a Balon D Or in the era of Messi. Took a less talented team to the world cup final. Won 5 CL. 5! Modrics longevity is what places him over Xavi and Iniesta. Messi and CR7 are on another level. I know Cr7 is a striker. But those two goats go hand and hand.

Dude, those are midfielders. Even if they never ever score a goal, they still can be world class. It would be beter to show pass acuracy, passes into the final third, through passes, progresive caries of the ball, key passes, even sucesfull dribles/tackles/interceptions have more sense than goals. Same goes for strikers. You put goals and assists only, but very important information for any ofansive player is number of chances created and number of big chances created. Big chance is basicaly same as assist with only diference that you count assist when it ends with a goal and you call it big chance when its mised. Also when talking about strikers, we want to see number of shoots taken for a goal (conversion of chances) not only number of goals per 90 minutes.

For me Xavi and Iniesta are legends but look team they had while controlling midfield, Modrić this year controlled midfield solo for Real Madrid and croatia. Still Modrić carried Croatia to finals and he had excellent perfomance today against France. Modric is great, but for all of those that are pointing out that Modric is playing at high level at age of 37, they all forgot that Xavi and Iniesta were totaly developed midfielders at age of 20, while Modric was limited by playing at Bosnian League and later at Dinamo Zagreb. That is no enviroment to fully develop any talent. Even in his time at Tottenham he had poor of the ball movement and his decision making was not so quick and good. He also took some time when coming to Madrid to make his mark, hell, even called among the worst Madrid transfers after the first season. In my book Xavi and Iniesta are the best midfielders, Modric like i said is great, but who knows...if Xavi and Iniesta started in Croatia, they would propably be cast aside as to weak or to small, (that almost happened to Modric) and if Modric started at La Masia, he could be developed at much earlier age.

As a progressive ball carrying link player you go with iniesta, as a tempo controller go with Xavi, a good mixture go with modric and for a more deep playing mid go with kroose. Out of the 4 iniesta doesn’t really fit positionally. Pirlo should be on here instead and hed be my pick narrowly ahead of Xavi.

I am a Madrid fan and I hate these comparisons. I think you could play with all 4 of them in the same team and you would have an insane midfield. I would do a square with Toni in the back left, Xavi in the back right, Iniesta in the top left and Luka in the top right, with Iniesta more into the attacking and Modric as he does in both Madrid and Croatia, supporting the attack and the high press, or playing deep when needed. I guess the best passing accuracy goes to Toni, and long passing skills as well. But mostly because in Barça they did not pass the ball that long, that often. Overall passing skills, difficult to point at someone, they are all absurdly great. Best dribbling goes to Iniesta and Modric, I would say Iniesta can play more on the attacking side while Modric is more of a mixed profile. Consistency, I would say Xavi has been all of his career the most consistent one. But Toni was also a boy-wonder when he was still in his teens. Youngest player to join the Bayern Munich first team at that time. But as a Madrid fan I can say that Xavi - Iniesta formed the best midfield duo that I have seen. Messi owns a lot to these two.
