His final public performance before his death aged 43. The show was pre-recorded rather than broadcast live, but the fact he was able to perform this in one take when so terribly ill is miraculous. Only Luke Kelly.

This song always brings me to tears no matter how many times I listen to it. It’s like Luke is saying goodbye for the final time. His voice is so powerful and haunting. Its amazing to see people from across the world listening to our traditional music and giving it the recognition it deserves. Your reaction was amazing. I was sorry to see you cry but it shows the power of music. Love from Ireland 🇮🇪 ❤️

What a song and what a singer! For some reason it reminds me of Joan Baez singing Sad eyed lady of the lowlands. Another spine tingling song. You cant die without hearing it! Greetings from Ireland!

Kristan Kali Ronnie Drew the guitarist next to him at the end he whispers "Well Done" Luke died 2 months later, RIP big man, this man was absolutely amazing even makes me cry, I've been singing this for over 30 years but not a patch on my hero Luke Kelly,

According to John Sheahan (Fiddle player in The Dubliners), Luke's last public appearance was this live version of The Night Visiting Song which was recorded in early - mid December 1983 and sadly, Luke would pass away 4 - 5 weeks later on January 30th 1984 from a brain tumor. Also, Luke knew he was ill but I don't think he knew he was dying.

If you listen closely at the end, you can hear Ronnie say well done lukey. Luke was very unwell at this point and they were unsure he'd make it through the song, hence why it was pre-recorded. A special talent.

this always brings me to tears and I'm 72 and heard this when the Dubliners released it Luke died not long after this, best folk singer ever, seen them about 10 times in concert

this was after he had his brain tumor removed, hence the cap instead of his giant ginger afro. even compromised, he still managed to drain every emotion of his fiber into his voice and onto us. Go raibh mile maith agat Luke!

Hauntingly beautiful 😢in his own words he is dying and can no longer go on an when he dies he wants to go into to the arms he loves the most. Not many people know this but he also sang a song about the horishmi nuke called the sun is burning

:((( I was gonna research it.. and now i know.. thankyou for telling me Shane. It is horrible to know someone so talented with so much emotion would have terminal cancer. cancer is cruel

@@KristinKali yes he passed very young around 40 i think. The band went on for decades afterwards. My dad loved him , he kinda new them , there record company was beside his ( my dads ) office, met a couple of the band members, guitar player and violin player ( when i was a little kid ) .if you were driving with my dad they were on the radio. ( greatest hits tape ) ( yes tape cassette) there is a beautiful song no lyrics just music ( the marino waltz) the violin player wrote for his daughter and she studied violin herself and at live concert they did a duet of it . Adorable. Think a traditional Irish music version of a waltz. ( 1,2,34 )

If You want a good laugh search "Italian gibberish song" the longer version is someone who tried to add CC but the singer doesn't speak a word of english.
