The return of the Tommy Tiernan Show with first guest Roy Keane proved to impress the audience with viewers hailing it as "ridiculous, intense and hilarious".
The football legend spoke at length to Tommy about his career and family life. The Cork native revealed that the "only time" he cried during his career was when he "left United and had a few disagreements with some people."

He kept saying he wasn’t the best of players. Let me tell you, I watched Utd live many times and even in that great team he was the best player I’ve ever seen. Football isn’t just about how many step overs you can do. I’m his prime Roy controlled everything on the pitch. He was constantly moving team mates into the right place. He hardly ever lost the ball and always moved the ball forward. He was a joy to watch.

He is a rare occurrence... So relatable to a lot of irish people and certainly to those of us from cork. He really doesn't think hes anything special when really, he is one of the most special people we have ever created. A true Irish hero and an absolute legend in person, if you approach him the right way. No selfies or any of that shit.

I led Roy Keane and his teams out of the tunnel onto the pitch on two different occasions . 1994 World Cup at Giants Stadium, NJ were Ireland beat Italy 1-0 and in 2003 at Giants Stadium Manchester United vs Juventus were Man U went on to win 4-1 were I also got to sit at the end of the bench. How lucky can one guy be? I am a huge fan of Roy and Man U. and those moments are simply unforgettable.

That has to be one of the best interviews I have ever seen. . Tommy Tiernan paces the interview perfectly and Roy Keane responds thoughtfully & honestly, i found it quite emotional. A lot of people probably dont get Roy Keane at all, you get the impression that he wouldnt really care anyway. He is totally 100 % honest and says it how it is and Its clear that he was able to move on after his career had finished and is content with life. keep doing what you do Roy- youre a great person and you are much loved and admired by many.Other interviewers take note....watch & listen to how Tommy Tiernan does it .

Tommy Tiernan did a great job, a difficult interview required Tiernan to be very versatile, you see him sitting back and giving Roy the space to open up. Sometimes it seems like Roy doesn't want to answer but in actual fact he doesn't mind opening up, but it's a matter of waiting.

I’m a Glaswegian Celtic supporter and he talks of his time there and felt like he was stealing a wage because of his fitness. He was obviously by his best but I remember a game at Ibrox where he absolutely strolled it and showed his real class. Maybe the adrenaline kicked in for that game but he was head and shoulders above every player on the park that day and the Rangers players couldn’t get near him. Maybe his last hurrah but every Celtic supporter that day remembers that performance

Roy plays down how good he actually was. That Champions League semi final 2nd leg against Juventus in Turin in 1999 was epic. Juventus 2 - 0 ahead after 10 mins & I thought it was game over but when he pulled it back scoring that header to make it 2 - 1, that's when he took the game by the balls. Juventus had Edgar Davids known as The Pitbull but Roy was a lion that night & was determined they were going to win of which they did & he got a yellow card that cost him playing in the final. Love watching him as a pundit nowadays, just tells it straight. Great to see him relaxed and humble, absolute legend.

This has got to be one of the best interviews ever for an ex/current pro athlete. I think the reason why so many people resonate with Roy Keane is he represents all the qualities and values we see in ourselves or have been taught from a young age. Forget his football success for a moment, this man represents hard work, loyalty, discipline, integrity, honesty and commitment. All the characteristics you would want in a partner, son/daughter, best friend etc. He transcended Man United and the way professional sport and football was viewed in this country. Finally, he downplays his technical skills a lot and says he had to play on the edge to make up for his lack of technical skills. But let me tell you this man was as gifted as any midfielder. Real football fans know he had absolutely everything. An absolute legend and icon of world football and sport.

Both of them have a serene, yet steely calmness about them. Tommy is always comfortable with silence, so he doesn't get intimidated with the Roy Keane aura. There is a mutual respect between them. Roy Keane comes across very well.

Just watched this and it's amazing how Keane is so good at acceptance. Accepting that he had to work hard at 9/10 to get to England, acceptance of his weaknesses, his mistakes and his technical ability as a footballer and acceptance that it was over. Clearly, he doesn't delude himself but at the same time, he knew that his strength was his will to win. However, I would say personally that the defensive side of his game was up there with any elite player, brilliant at timing tackles and good distribution to other teammates when he won balls back.

Keane, Viera, Gerrard... there is no-one close... Keane says himself how important the centre midfielder is... it takes hours of debate to define whether he's 1st, 2nd or 3rd... his humility is his greatest talent

Roy is one of the most impressive humans I've ever seen and I'm not a football fan - he rings true no matter how he is tested. Smart, sef aware, Mature, Self-regulated, great values, loyal, and with his ego firmly under control.Tommy was so busy hiding how prepped he was that he missed asking Roy how he is so well adjusted/ has he had therapy? He has learned to show a little mercy to himself I think/hope. I'm glad he does not try to manage/lead any organisation - his core value is as a very clear opinion leader/ mentor /attitude adjuster. Interesting watch.

I think it was a good interview because Tommy was more prepped than he was. He tried the “we’re soul mates”, “I’m not that into your career” and finally “I’be tried blowing smoke up your arse, but I’m clearly getting nowhere”. And it became a relaxed chat. Still didn’t get anywhere! Roy Keane is too grounded, to self aware and knows exactly what he wants to tell you. For another really good interview with him, check out the Gary Neville interview on Garys’ Sky Sport show.
