Wow! I didn’t know I could do this on my machine, thank you. I’m definitely learning a lot from you. Please may I ask if at some point you could perhaps make a video about density and pull as I really don’t understand about them? I need it explained very simply please. I’m from the UK where you lived for a while. There is so much I’d love to know and learn. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and be sure to know I’ll be following you from now on. 🥰😍😘

Carol Hiller - if you look under my KZfaq playlist for PE Design 11, I have a video about pull compensation. I have a video under the Luminaire about stabilizers and in the beginning of that video, I discuss push and pull. Cotton quilting fabric stretches the most in the bias (45 degrees) from the straight of grain which is your selvedge. The Straight of grain will stretch the least. The width wide grain stretches more than the straight of grain but less than the bias. Density refers to how heavy the stitches are in a design or in stitches like satin stitches. When quilting on a domestic machine, you typically start in the center and add 3 or 4 inches of excess batting and backing around each side. So if your table topper was 24” x 24”, you would cut your batting and backing to at least 27” x 27”. The reason for this is because fabric is going to push out to each side of stitched area.

I enjoy watching your videos, I am wondering if there are an videos that are geared towards regular sewing and using the different feathers for piecing quilts or is everything more geared toward embroidering

Sorry Terry, auto correct got me it was supposed to say do you have any videos geared toward piecing quilts showing some of the other features of the sewing machine aspect not the embroidery features

Caryn Gomes - I have videos showing the feet that work well for piecing and the alignment tools built into the machine that help with piecing. Look at the Luminaire Video playlist on KZfaq.

Terry, if you saved your design to USB, could you take it into PE Design and reorder the sewing order?

Kathleen Jones - yes you could. You will need to import it as a PHX file. Then, you can make changes and save as a PES file.

Terry Maffitt can you also do a video on phx files as this is also new to me. I’ve just got the Luminaire and it’s also my first ever Brother machine, I’ve always had Pfaff and Husqvarna machines. Apologies if I’m a pain in the rear ☺️
