This video shows multiple ways to create quilting around a design. In this video I will show you how to scan hooped fabric for something already pieced as well as how to plan the overall design with quilting as a background while it is still a block. It is up to you because you have the tools on the Luminaire. My Luminaire has Upgrade Kit 1, so you may not have some of the fill stitches.

That was helpful because it shows me that there is more than one way to create the quilting around the object. Now to remember which step for which method. Thanks

Terry, your videos are SO Helpful!!!! I have had my Luminaire XP1 since they were introduced. I have only recently had time to sit down and look at your videos. I have learned so much from you and realized that there is so much that the machine will do, that I have not been able to do until watching your videos. Thank you so much!!

Thank you! Thank you! This was such a helpful video for me. I actually have a Baby Lock Meridian machine, and I have been trying and trying to figure out how to stipple around an appliqué. Your machine is very similar and following your steps I was able to do it. I’m beyond thrilled. You are a very good teacher. I subscribed too.

Morning, Thank you for all your information. I was wondering if you can bring in your own background fill pattern, like a quilt design, in to use it with the stamp?

Terry if I want to trim the batting in advance of quilting so it doesnt get into the seam allowances of the block, can you tell me how I can do that when it is not already part of the desogn? For example, I would like to create a placement line, tack down the batting to the stabilizer, remove it and trim it, and then add the fabric and continue with the method you show for adding the quilting around the design. I have a Solaris which is almost the same as the Brother. Thank you. Your videos are just awesome!

Place your quilt sandwich in the hoop. Select the hoop size in Shapes, and add a running stitch. Continue with your designing. Remove finished design from the hoop. Carefully trim batting up to the stitch line holding back the top and bottom fabric. I use duckbill scissors for this.

Wonderful video! One question, is there a reason that you didn't use the "fill only" on the shapes rather than having to change outside to a no sew?

Fantastic video Terry, just what I wanted to learn about. Tell me why a cutaway stabiliser and not a tearaway? I still get so confused with all the different stabilisers 🤔
@terrymaffitt4012
@terrymaffitt4012 4 жыл бұрын
Carol Hiller - it depends on the application. If you look at an Anita Goodesign quilt, they use a cut away, then batting with embroidery on top of the quilting cotton. That is because the cutaway won’t breakdown in the quilt. If you are making an applique and not quilting at the same time, you use a tear away. Tear away stabilizers are predominate used with woven fabrics and cutaway for knit because of the stretch in knits. Watch some videos by Floriani owned by RNK, you will see how they use stabilizers. Another good video is by Nicci Brazille (I may have her name spelled wrong).

Terry I added quilting in my blocks but how do you stipple the rest of the quilt around the blocks?
@terrymaffitt4012
@terrymaffitt4012 3 жыл бұрын
You can scan the quilt in My Design Center. Add stippling to fill the hoop, then erase those areas of fill covering your blocks where you already have fill. I would enlarge the stippling and the spacing some so the quilting stitches are not too heavy.

I embroidered three designs in the largest Luminaire hoop and I want to stipple around the designs. The block has a border. I watched this video and it was helpful but I'm still not sure how to do this with multiple designs. Is this even possible? The block Alice, the White Rabbit and some words.

When I scanned my project in the new luminaire magnetic hoop I had to apply a “snowman” to detect fabric thickness, per the machine instructions, I didn’t see this in your video, so I was a bit confused. Also it will take several hooping to quilt my entire project, how do I align up so that the stippling continues?
@terrymaffitt4012
@terrymaffitt4012 3 жыл бұрын
You can go to your settings and turn off fabric thickness and you will not have to use the snowman.

I’d like help doing the opposite. I missed some quilting between an edge to edge design so I want to quilt in between the original quilting as a fill. So I’d be filling the inside of a design not the outside.

Dear Terry, once again I join with many other grateful supporters of your wonderful videos in saying thank you for great help ......would it be possible for you to make available for purchase perhaps on “ flash drives “ a series of all of your all of your different machines ,eg Dream Machines ,Luminaire etc ....? Would there be a market ? I think many people would be very interested ....... very best wishes to you , Judith Fursman.

I want to be able to pull up thread, in beginning like I do when quilting. I can do on 1st stitch. How would you pull up thread at end to bury stitches from top instead of narly knots on back? (I have to watch and stop, if lucky to catch before it starts knotting)
@terrymaffitt4012
@terrymaffitt4012 4 жыл бұрын
Lisa Klein - Turn off the thread cutter. When you get to the end, remove the hoop and cut the top and bottom thread to the length you want. You really want to have a continuous design for this, so watch the Stitch player to see if there are stop and starts. Some people Quilt with the batting and a cut away, then add the backing at the end. You can go back and use your dual feed to quilt around blocks or free motion with the echo foot.
