Yeah the new monsters are very much geared towards the hunters, especially when the moves that have massive damage to players only do relatively normal damage to other monsters, to see Luna's backflip strike only do like 200dmg and leave him open enough to land about 900dmg worth of hits just shows how they should include a multiplier for if the attack is on another monster

I know this is based on the in-gameplay fights shown by the channel, but lore wise Rajang ties with Velkhana and Kushala, two ice monsters that are undoubtedly superior to Goss. He's shown greater feats of both strength (punching Deviljho into the ground from a disadvantageous position and being able to lift Bazelgeuse over his head and slam it on the floor) and speed (preying on the fastest monster in the entire franchise up until now), not to mention Goss is vulnerable to thunder. In lore, I'd definitely bet on the monkey

@@marcobrancorsini2479 MSS Deathmatch did a battle previously with Goss and Rajang. Goss won that fight and I based the story on these fights rather than actual lore.

@@destinationjazz3403 The Namahage is a humanoid oni-like beast with a coat like Goss's, who frequently carry knives in one hand and seek out naughty children. They originate from a festival in a snowy town, where they're all played by neighbors or actors (the knives are always fake, none of them want to actually hurt the kids) who enter into homes and try to teach some lessons to children and 'scare'em straight' from what I can understand. Again, there's no denying it has parts of the Yeti in it, but it standing upright is because both monsters are humanoids who walk upright; I'm just saying it's predominantly the Yokai (it's japanese title is even 'Snow Oni Beast'). That's also the reason why it has the ice blades, too (the aforementioned knives). It's a nice touch. He does make a great yeti though. Goss is 10/10.

​@@destinationjazz3403 Ye, all of the new monsters in rise take inspiration from various kinds of Yokai. Some, generally the more well-known ones, are more obvious (Bombadgy is the Tanuki, Tetranadon is a Kappa, etc) while others are more obscure (Somnacanth is based on the japanese equivalent of a mermaid, which are basically fish-devils, but it also pulls from western mermaids as well). It's honestly really cool how much effort and detail the team put into the new guys. Namahage is a big cultural phenomenon in Japan but it's very rare for someone overseas to know about it; Goss is a brilliant adaptation of the idea by taking the mystical oni that lives in the cold lands and turning it into a monstrous ursine boogeyman that's not just powerful but highly intelligent: it understands tool usage, will try to aim where it thinks you're heading instead of standing, will throw snow boulders or make quakes to knock down people standing too high or far for it to reach, and most importantly it's unique animation when a hunter is stunned near it shows it has emotional intelligence and takes pleasure from fear. He's not just an awesome monster, he's pretty damn terrifying. Seeing him suddenly go from hunched over to standing upright and slowly drag his blade over while grinning as you try to mash out of stun is a good way to feel anxiety, and it perfectly captures the terror that the Namahage is meant to induce. The costume masks also tend to be blue or red (ala blue oni/red oni), which is why Goss starts out icy blue before literally turning red with rage. He's probably the most in-depth and detailed of all of Rise's Yokai Monsters, and it shows. Fittingly, just as he is overseas, he's also really popular in Japan. Say what you want about Rise, but in terms of creature design they knocked it out of the park.

Yeah but there is a problem with Rajang in rise and that is it freaking slow in rise in the past games Rajang was so fast but now here for some reason capcom decided to nerf it’s speed which I’m really disappointed at, considering it is supposed to be a monkey monster that is a elder tier level monster that shows great strength and speed.

@@beepboop2021 Lunagaron is not really a wolf technically speaking because it is a reptile. (It is a fanged wyvern after all.) It is only wolf-looking. Goss Harag is actually a mammal since it is a fanged beast so we can’t really say it is a bear while it has obvious opposable thumb. Goss Harag shares almost nothing with bears anyway.

Actually Goss Harag is a monster that was based on the Namahage and a Bear, it was leaked as the “Namahage Bear” back before Rise came out. that and it uses the Ursine fanged beast body type that Arzuros, Lagombi and Volvidon use, Just because it has little bear features doesn’t mean it doesn’t have some bear in it as inspiration. A part of Arzuros was inspired by the Honey Badger but it doesn’t seem that way because he just looks like a bear right? Just as much as Goss Harag doesn’t look much like a bear because his primary inspiration was the Namahage. That’s the great thing about Monster Hunter! It doesn’t have to 100% look like something for the inspiration to be there, that’s how we get all these amazing designs, they mix things together and just go with it!

Lore wise a lot of stuff in these games doesn’t make sense (Bagel getting bodied by Maggie despite it fending of DEVILJHO; Maggie’s ludicrous plot armor and inconsistent portrayal in general, Gore Magala and the frenzy virus having zero impact or establishment despite the ecological effects it causes begins the entire basis for its intro game’s plot, etc). I can totally (and very very happily) believe that The Goss Boss would eviscerate the wolf in an actual fight, and that they’d just want you to think otherwise because “I said so”. It makes sense especially because Goss is already canonically proven to be surprisingly intelligent, or at least pretty smart (understanding of tool usage and the fact that it derives joy from fear with that terrifying blade drag it does to stunned hunters, plus it’s skilled enough to adapt such as reacting to attackers out of range by picking up snow boulders and chucking them at them) and it’s styling of fighting just counters Moon Boys. What I’m trying to say is in a battle of icy boys He’s just cooler

“Low Goss Harag” Goss is among the most powerful monsters in the base game and it’s very consistently portrayed as a terrifying opponent. It’s also the first/only ursine fanged beast that’s endgame levels. While Goss doesn’t have much lore in the way of other monsters outside of the frost islands relic story, it’s turf war has it clock terry so hard in the jaw that he’s sent flying through the air. And Tetranadons are massive, not to mention it’s after it filled up on rocks. Goss isn’t the focus of the game but he’s clearly really strong. It feels a disservice to him to act like he’s just an arzuros.

@@ericocuaca854 Gore, despite being juvenile and classified as ??? Is still technically an elder dragon + he's already muscular and strong enough in this state. Even then, Goss still could resist and even punch Gore Magala in the face until he used his wingarms to hold him.

It’s worth pointing out that Gore Magala ambushed Goss with a sneak attack, rather than a straight assault, because Goss is strong enough that it wants to get any advantage it can. Even then, Goss Harag isn’t actually floored by the surprise assault and manages to fight back before Gore enters its rage mode without Goss going into his. More importantly though, sneaking up allowed Gore to infect Goss with the frenzy virus before the fight began via the dander in its scales and then piled it on further with its attack. Goss Harag is ultimately subdued because of the virus, upon which Gore leaves it behind. Even then, however, Goss is shown to not be dead, as monsters that are strong enough can survive the virus and Goss is shown to be twitching and breathing. It’s entirely possible that some poor unfortunate sap will have a run in with an APEX Goss Harag, and given how tough base Goss is an Apex would probably be exceedingly dangerous. This isn’t to say that good ol’ ordinary Goss Harag itself would definitively defeat Gore Magala (in my opinion it would be improbable, but not impossible), but it’s pretty obvious that if it was a straight up fight he’d have given it one hell of a beating regardless of how it ended.
