Your not alone in the US, jolly Old England is quite a mess depending who you talk to being the have's or have nots. Would love to buy land go off grid, but that's nearly impossibly expensive. Some people are still getting rich but not a lot of the producers.

Yes, this "3% inflation" is terrible for people on a fixed income. I'm 75 and the good news is we saw it coming and paid our house off 20 years ago so at least we have a place to camp. Living with less is fine for us but that's no way to run a Country. A n abundant supply of reliable inexpensive energy is key, and we're trying to destroy that.

I used to buy bar oil for 3.99 a gal at bi mart. My wife and i paid our house off last year and we feel no relief. Grocery bill has replaced our mortgage it seems like. Im self employed tree service and we are seeing fewer customers. Its a shame.

You are not alone....all of us are getting the beat down in this economy. Plant a garden....raise some chickens..etc...its the only way to find any peace of mind with the way things are going...

Speaking of inflation: THOSE are many of the reasons why I have the land that mom n dad paid off many years ago. I’m NOT going to sell it! If I had children then it’d go to them, but alas I don’t. I’m paying rent to the gooberment in the form of property taxes on something that was purchased 51 years ago. So I’m just using it as my off grid home. It’s come in very handy since my wife told me to “go away”, so I did. My only “nicety” is my wood stove. It provides heat, a way to make coffee, AND it provides a place for me to cook. The absolute hardest part at my age is NOT having AC, but I’ll “somehow” manage, even if it makes me a “better” person. 😅

Thanks for sharing, Definitely one of the most valuable assets a person could have right now! (Land) Sorry to hear about the wife....I certainly understand what a struggle it is to find a good woman...been there ...hang in there....enjoy the simple life!

@@norcaltimberfaller1943 One of these days (if it’s meant to be) I’ll find (or she’ll find ME) a REALLY good one. But, I’m prepared for “the long haul” 😉.

Lived thru late 1970's inflation, which was lightweight compared to today. Going to Mc Donalds to buy a Big Mac for $18.00

Stock market is highest it's ever been. Real wages having risen more in the last few years than in the last 30. Unemployment is below 4%. So in actuality the economy is red hot. That's why they have upped interest rates. To cool the economy to stabilize inflation. And your right it will take a while for this to cool off. But look at your conglomerate corporations. They are making more profits than ever the last few years. So a lot of the inflation is driven by corporations trying to please shareholders. Since there is reduced competition because of all these massive companies. Prices go up and up. We've not enforced monopoly laws really at all in the last 40 years. Covid was just an excuse for the huge companies to raise prices. Citing supply constraints. Cheap gas is over. If gas goes to 2 bucks. Then all these oil producers in the US will go under. Then gas will still go back up. OPEC operates like a cartel. But we as people need to consume less. That will drive prices back down. But there doesn't seem to be any slowdown and people buying $80,000 trucks and just otherwise throw money in every direction I don't even know how they do it but as long as people keep doing that then prices will continue to go up.

“Real wages” may have gone up a lot, but not in excess of true inflation. So they didn’t go up. Real wages are down. That’s why people are feeling stressed. Inflation is being caused by the expansion of available money. Interest rates can be 100% and money supply continue to expand (see Argentina). It’s not the corporations. The largest economic participant in the US is the government. The more money they create and spend results in a growing portion of capital they control vs all other parties. The economy is not “red hot”. That statement is derived from nominal increases in spending, not real spending. Pretend I’m not crazy for a second and take what I am saying seriously. I beg you because it will give you peace and clarity as you seek out the “why” to the statements I have made. This is tough times for most of us. Good luck.
