Thanks for the video. I just received an email from LUOA last night talking about Ember and hadn't heard of it before so was looking for info and differences. This hit the spot. However, I will say, LUOA doesn't provide modifications to work even with IEP's. My son was accepted to LUOA and we provided his IEP to them for their review. We received a call from an academic advisor letting us know that work really cannot be modified and based on my son's IEP she felt like we would be setting him up for failure if we enrolled him there. She said that the work would be too rigorous for him and that the work time expectation is about 6 hours per day! She explained that 5th graders are writing 5 paragraph essays, etc. My son currently is publicly schooled but only can attend in the building 2. 5 hours/day for 2 classes and I do the other 2 core classes with him here at home. And even at that, he has to have many breaks. There is no way he could work for 6 hours. And as a 7th grader with an IEP, he is lucky to be able to write a whole paragraph, much less a 5-paragraph essay like their 5th graders are. Can't imagine how much the 7th grades are expected to write. Anyway, point being, we were very excited that LUOA might have been a good fit for our son until they told us they do not make IEP modifications to fit his needs. Very disappointed.

Thank you so much for the thorough information on both options 🤩Trying to pull my 8 yo out of public school and start homeschooling. The traditional homeschooling had failed for us after 1 and half when she was younger. But this time around I'm hoping that a more computer-based teaching style (less of mommy teaching :( ) might help. Public school will be avoided hopefully for good!! It could be a great filler when absolutely there's no other choice but if you are serious about your faith then you should expect frequent disappointments. But then in all fairness it is called "PUBLIC" !! 😏

I reside in NJ. I was wondering how I would be able to check to see if LUOA meets the states standard requirements. Would I ask the current high schools she attends or where as far as the state for education? This was so helpful! Thank you again.

Hey there! I would think a good place to start is here hslda.org/legal/new-jersey This is the link to the Homeschool Legal Defense Association. They are a great resource for all those who are homeschooling. You could also check with LUOA www.liberty.edu/online-academy/ Some states consider LUOA a private school because it is accredited while others require the student to still be registered as a homeschooler with a letter of intent to homeschool and regular evaluations by either an umbrella group or the State. Does ember do a monthly payment plan? I found on their website it just says 149 per course per student but no mention of a payment plan.

Im trying to figure out how to assign due dates to various assignments in Ember... cant figure it out. sigh

I have a nephew who is dyslexic and is in the eighth grade, and the only language he knows is Spanish. luoa also your courses in Spanish?

Bothh use the same curriculum? Same lessons mostly?
