Welcome back to my channel peeps!
This is a breakdown and reaction video to "WAV Files" off of Lupe Fiasco's latest album DROGAS Wave.
The song provides a eerie and somber tone that gives the impression of reflection and regret. WAV Files is a very important song to the structure of the albums concept - the story of four slaves who jumped of the slave ship and managed to avoid death and lived underwater bringing slave ships down for the rest of their lives.
The story and storytelling are classic Lupe fiasco and his departure from Atlantic records only means up from her.
please consider liking, subscribing, commenting and turning on the notification bell.
thank you for watching!

Thank you for breaking this song down almost bar for bar. I had a blurry picture in my head of this song and what it meant, but this clears a lot more things up! This song spoke to me when I first heard it! Lupe outdid himself this album!

There is a culture in Africa called yoruba culture the Thunder is called shango and the ocean is called yemoja she is depicted as a woman who lives in the deepest part of the ocean and it's said she help the slaves travel safely back to Africa you see in yoruba culture the elements such as wind rain fire ect are payed homage to and are called by different names so the long chains lupe fiasco speaks of dates back to a African culture

Best break down channel. I'm a barologist but Ernest knows the deeper meanings not just the surface level shit. Lupe is advanced level story telling. His metaphors are unfuckwittable. Em has a million different flows and his word play and internal rhymes as well as his ability to manipulate the language are superior. Lupe, Em, and Immortal Technique are tied in storytelling. Lupe's metaphors and multiple entendre bars are are the best in the game.

Hey man. I just watched this breakdown. I always had a good grip on what Lupe was trying to convey. But your breakdown by far increased my understanding of his bars beyond anywhere i could have imagined. Man the black baby alligators baters explanation moved me to tears. I just never knew the depths of the atrocities. Imean, We all did, but it's so easy to overlook certain details. Thank you. You've got a lifelong subscriber in me.

Look at me 3rd Earnest.... I'm looking at something non-NF related. 😆😏 .... jk 😋 Holy cow.... I'm listening to the intro as I'm writing that above and it is so heavy and deep! 😳😳😳 I came to find out if you'd reacted to Scarlxrd or Quadeca because my son was telling me about both. And I needed a better understanding of both for different reasons. I don't see them on your page but *then* I did see this guy and I remember you talking so fondly about him and saying you were going to take a break to do the NF reactions so I gave him a chance by default. I really love his sound but I will tell you... had I *not* listened to your channel... I'm not sure I would have even gotten a quarter of that! It just wasn't obvious to me and I'm really grateful for the breakdown I'm going to listen to another one of his on your page. 😳🥰🙌

Only thing I would say is I think the slaves do actually die from the dip but their spirit or essence or metaphorically they live on. That's why their bones wash up on the beach and are bleached white. Also Lu references Davy Jones Locker which is where drowned sailors end up. That's why they ascend to the stars. Their spirits are haunting the seas bringing down the boats. Completely agree with you on the conversations with the sea, trees, stars it's like a convo between friends and one is so hurt by the betrayal and the other feels terrible about what they've done. The depth of the song almost brings a breh to tears.

When he says that the water will be a "treasure" to the slaves and their future generations, I feel like he's saying that the "low place" in society that black people live in will be a treasure to them. In the sense that poverty and struggle has allowed us to rise in the face of adversity and become great in ways that we wouldn't be able to if we were more privileged.
@eleckson
@eleckson 4 жыл бұрын
When Lupe says that these scholars were so busy trying to shine, he's speaking on the scholars of America designing ships and plans for slavery in order to reap the benefits and "shine" when really they should have used that knowledge to save us from our "primitive" ways by offering this knowledge to Africans and maybe establishing fair trade for the benefit of humanity as a whole instead of just their own benefit.
