I start crying the moment she says, “It does not escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s.“ And then she goes on to thank Patsy, the person she portrayed the movie. Such grace and eloquence. One of the finest Oscar speeches I’ve ever heard.

She was saying that without the pain and suffering that slaves went through, she wouldn't have starred as one and therefore she wouldn't have received her oscar nomination... hope that helps!!

The way she delivered this speech is the reason I tear up every time I hear it, she’s a phenomenal woman and I’m so happy for her for putting up with this hard journey receiving closed doors and lots of “no’s” to finally becoming the successful woman she is today! 12 Years a Slave was a really powerful but hard movie to watch. Lupita was just sensational in this movie. She’s incredible in everything she has been in. She’s in the same league as Viola Davis, Charlize Theron, Meryl Streep, choosing very interesting yet important stories. Amazing actress.

So sick of this Jennifer Lawrence hype. The fact that people are saying she deserved the oscar for playing a housewife when Lupita's performance was of a real slave and with so much emotion, just baffles me. Her performance was on a completely different level. It doesn't matter how much screen time you have, as long as you're convincing (Anne Hathaway won the oscar the year before for a brilliant performance, but wasn't in the film for long). Lupita truly deserved it and I look forward to seeing her win more Oscars.
