It was a very hot afternoon walking the banks, flicking lures for native fish. Murray cod were the main target species, however I always welcome a yellowbelly (Golden Perch), trout cod, or anything else that I may catch.

Nice one mate ! I can tell you from experience, I'm 62 have had a two hip replacements but still have arthritis in my back so lugging gear around isn't as easy. I tend to fish light, and carry not much if I have to venture far from the car . My favourite way of fishing these days is being able to fish very close to my ute, I use the rear tailgate as a table and set up my deck chair and rod holders and enjoy the serenity. I mainly fish the lower Glenelg River for Bream, Estuary Perch and Mulloway. Oh, and I just want to add that your casting skills are next level, I would hang those lures up on those snags every second cast ! lol

Hey mate, request/ video idea… I’ve always done a bit of fishing here and there, doing a lot more nowadays, But the thing that’s always put me off lure fishing is the price of lures and losing them to snags. A video with tips/ tricks of getting out of snags, if you use a retriever etc would be awesome. Or even just included into a regular video so that the whole vid isn’t just about dealing with snags.

As someone in the early 50's with bad heath, it can be turned around. I had to have a complete re-do of my diet and attend physio sessions, its pretty tough to keep going but over the last 6 years I was down to 30% heart capacity with cardomyophathy and managed to scavenge it into the 45-50% range so I'm out of the 'going to die real soon' bracket. That and the diabetus is always a thing to watch out for at that 45-50year mark. The good news? Eat fish once a week and I reckon you can manage that!

Thanks so much mate. I am so glad that you are turning your health around. It's so much harder than most people realise. Hi Andrew I live in Canberra do u have a any spot recommendations for yellow belly and carp as the weather is getting colder
@AndrewFishman
@AndrewFishman 2 ай бұрын
@@Random_stuff552 as the weather cools, carp are still on the chew in most of the likely places on Burley Griffin (Kingston foreshore, Yacht Club area, Regatta through to Kings Ave, Black Mountain Pen.). Bread, corn and worm baits will all get good fish. The big girls start to feed for spawning Sept/Oct. The shallow bays around Lake Ginninderra are always worth a shot. Along the dam wall is the most likely spot for natives. Flowing from Yerrabi to Ginninderra, Ginninderra Creek can get good carp schools along it, and the pond at Giralang fills with spawners as the winter progresses into spring. The bigger pools, which are atill not huge lol, all hold good redfin numbers, and some big ones. Yerrabi, near the island with the footbridge, in the channels. Can be good in Yerrabi through winter as the weed is a bit less so you don't get fouled as often. Tuggers, the top end wall near the Bunnings is always worth a shot, the fish in my profile pic came from there on a very frosty morning. Sight fishing the reed beds along the other side from Bunnings can turn up some huge carp sitting right in close. Stranger Pond is worth a throw for natives if you are down that way. The Soward Brisge area is my go to for yebblies, the Skate Park for Cod. Red Rocks Gorge and Pine Island both fish well if you don't mind a hike. Gordon Pond is great in winter, as it is shallow, so on those nice sunny days, warms up in the top end, near the playground and off the mud point back towards the reeds. . The pools on the Molongolo between the Parkway and the Lake can really turn on the natives on a good, sunny day, especially if there is water being released from Scriviner. Another good access is Coppins, head upstream for some fabulous water. Later in winter (August), Sullies Creek is a good spot to hit big prespawn carp, as is the section of Jerrabomberra creek at Fyshwick (enter through Narrabundah). The drain I fish at Bowen Park has some big spawners most days also. The Reddies also move into the creeks and drain mouths about this time. Kambah Pool rock pools are good as they warn nicely and I have caught quite a number of winter cod and yebblies in them. Also, fewer nudies to haunt your memories :D Googong can fish really well, and you have a good chance of big brownies also. If you are a bit more specific on which lake/area, I can give more specific locations. Hope I have helped out.

@@AndrewFishmanthank you Andrew this was very helpful do u have any yellow belly spots if they still it’s in the colder weather?
@AndrewFishman
@AndrewFishman 2 ай бұрын
@@Random_stuff552 I like to hunt them in the Molongolo mostly through the winter. You do pick up some monsters of the bottom of BMPeninsular in the deep water, casting back towards Western Park. Also, the old rowing course, indicated on Google Maps as Lonely Deck, is worth a shot. All along the path from there to BMP are willows and rocks. Great hunting grounds in the afternoons as the rocks warm and the fish hang under the trees. The reed beds at the other end of this spot, at Spaghetti Junction (Glenlock Interchange) are great for yebblies any time of year, especially when the drains from BM and off the Parkway are flowing. Target the drain mouths. Oh, and never neglect the Molongolo waterski area. Great yebbly fishing all year. Good carp and Redfin and some giant cod. TUggers, hit under Soward way bridge, along the front of Maccas and the College.

G'day Robbie, I went up to the Murray this Easter and christened my first baitcaster with a big fat yellowbelly, caught on a spinnerbait. Wanted to say cheers because your videos helped a lot! Do you have any general tips for lure fishing Murray cod? I was chucking some size 2 Stumpjumpers around a few snags but didn't get a touch from any cod - they only seemed to want to take bait (cheese). I was using 20lb braid (a bit light for cod I know, but thought perhaps I could get some smaller fish... Not a touch on the stumpjumpers though). Keeping in mind I was fishing the main Murray river, very wide and a lot of boats going by so perhaps the cod are more reluctant to take lures in that area for that reason. Do you think fishing lures in smaller systems (such as the one in this video) would be more productive? Thanks again and keep up the great content!

@@dant-h-fp9qe Hey Dan I caught it near Wangaratta. I didn't keep it because I wasn't carrying an eski with me to keep it cold. It would have gone off in my backpack.

Like you Robbie I cast and retrieve with my right hand (I am right handed), but often have a chuckle as to why some people change to their non dominant arm to retrieve. P.S I would love to be 50, enjoy your mobility
