Its annoying how Vespa Piaggio puts their drain plug in a place where oil will inevitably get everywhere when draining because of the location of the center stand. Its also a pain to get oil into the bike. Oil changes on Genuine, Lance or SYM are 5 times faster. Anyway, these bikes are new to me but the power when riding was pretty nice, as well as some gizmo features it has. Thanks for the video mate.

Glad to help. It's got some annoying things but I have to say the twist and go power plant on the GTS300 is amazing.

Great video. Thanks for all the detail. The one suggestion I'll make is that it's better to allow the bike to sit for a few minutes before checking the oil level. When the bike is run, oil gets distributed throughout the engine. If you measure the level right away after shutting it off, it may read low, resulting in an overfill situation when you add new oil based on that reading. If you wait for a bit, the oil will have all drained into the sump, giving you an accurate level reading. But that's a small point on an excellent video.

Charles True. Overfill is as bad as underfill. I thought I had mentioned that in the video, maybe I didn't. Good point.

The old oil would discharge a lot faster if you first removed the oil filler plug

Awesome vid & good explanation! Why would you say its Perfect when your oil shows Maximum on your dip stick? Isn't it better to have it in between Min and Max?

Thanks. Anywhere from midway to Max is perfect. It holds such a small amount of oil that it's very easy to accidentally overfill it. Just had another issue with mine today, the headlight glass\plastic has melted! I'd been starting it up to keep battery topped up and with it not moving it has melted it, never seen that before in my whole life, awful quality, should be glass! So need to get that swapped before next MOT.

Thanks for your reply. Wow! I’ve never heard that part melted before. Last time I changed the oil on my Vespa sprint, with 1 L of oil change, the dipstick shows between minimum to middle. I don’t know if that is enough or not but I’m guessing if the oil light doesn’t come on it should be OK

@@NinjaNik ideally have it in the middle so you could put a tiny bit more oil in, but it doesn’t hold much so put in a small amount at a time.

The user manual recommends 80w90 transmission oil, 5w40 engine oil for vespa gts 250. But not everyone on youtube uses 10w40 and 75w90.. I'm crazy. What should I do?

It’s also slightly dependent on weather conditions but I used the one in this video which was recommended.

Hello, ma gts 125 prends 1l et 250 ml (1.25l) d' huile 4 temps moto (5w40castrol) ne dépasse jamais la quantité car se n' est pas bon pour le moteur injection , en revanche ton 300 gts est plus gros moteur je pense que c est un peu plus ... D ' ailleurs peu tu faire un tuto sur comment changer le filtre à essence , en effet je ne la trouve pas.

What happens once you’ve put the oil in and the oil light doesn’t turn off?

Sk _bl Have you definitely put in the correct amount of oil? Unusual for the oil light to remain on unless there is a fault, be careful. That needs to be investigated.

My gf tried to take over changing the oil by tightening the plug, but it won't tighten and when trying to torque it, the plug comes loose. Did she just ruin her fucking engine by stripping it?

It would be quite hard to ruin the thread unless it wasn't on properly to start with and was then tightened up with a spanner, I always hand tighten nuts first. Maybe remove the nut\plug and check the thread on it. If the thread is only damaged on the nut you could try a new nut, if thread is damaged on the block then that's not good news. I really hope you can get it sorted, let me know how you get on, good luck.

@@LurgsHowToGuides It wasn't very difficult to loosen the bolt the first time when I drained the oil. It felt smooth and good, and nothing weird when loosening. I removed the plug and tried to thoroughly examine the threads on both the block and the bolt. The thread on the bolt doesn't look too bad, not cracked or anything. all silver and shiny. I the thread on the block also look pretty good, no cracks, and also all silver and shiny throughout. Though it does look like there is some slight stuff in between the threads. I'm suspecting it might be some of the teeth from the bolt, which should mean that if anything, its worn from the bolt, and thats a good sign right?

Is the gasket still on the nut? If that was missing it wouldn’t tighten correctly. Maybe try cleaning the threads on both with an old toothbrush then tighten nut again but don’t overtighten it.
