Hey, that's a pretty slick, smart, yet simple method ya have there Ken. The TIP you offered at the end of the video for guitars that still have the finish on them, is quite valuable information. I bet a 1st timer may not think ahead without knowing that, and wind up with a chunk of the finish missing on his/her guitar, but now we all know how to avoid that mistake too. Good stuff. Thank you!

SWEET!! I too thought of this in the early 80s, I used a glass slide with a piece of rubber & a LONG bolt.. Being it was clear you could see the bushing coming out.. Great Idea ken.. Gary/Hk Both my sons are upstairs in the studio now jammin, Nighthawk & Organ.. ROCK!!

Excellent tip, sir... I saw a video on the other method you mentioned and thought the same thing. I don't even want to think of how to get a small piece of metal out that's lodged into the body wood down in that little hole. Thanks much for the safe fix.

Thank you for the brilliant tip! DIY at its best. Also very important advice towards the end, the screw method is known for cracking SG type guitars in the back, and you’re spot on, if that screw gets stuck that would be even more s*#t to worry about! Cheers mate! ❤🎸

This is absolutely huge brain stuff. Jammed in a tailpiece stud to a guitar I'm working on just now (first time working with them as the previous owner had put metric studs in a imperial hole, but it looks like the hole has either shrunk a little over time or was just slightly narrower than my new studs and I have just a little bit of stud poking out the top that won't go down even with some scary rubber mallet swings). Guess I'm off to the hardware store for some PVC pipe and a bolt! Thanks for uploading this!

I would run a longer bolt so you get a few threads into the insert. If you dont run enough thread into the insert it could strip the thread when you wind it up. Awesome tool all the same.
@BoudreauGuitars6 жыл бұрын
Munted Wookiee , some inserts have closed bottoms, if you use too long of a bolt it will bottom out in the insert before it pulls it out all the way. Just something to be aware of. ✌️

thanks for the warning: so i did the screw trick, now before i did anything i watched a few videos including yours, and i liked the tool that you made. i am in the process of making my own, you warned about the screw getting itself stuck in the peg hole, i taped the small pan head screw i had, and ran a razor around the edge of the insert, once i began threading the insert just came out smooth, and the screw fell out nicely, i had no problems with the screw trick but for the future i am making the tool.

Great tip! thanks! i have a question, when you put the new insert, do you have to fill the hole with a little bit of something to make stronger the fit, or just as it is? i ask because maybe when take out the insert some wood my come off too and make the new one wabble a little when you install it. Thanks again!

Drop a screw into the bushing insert. Screw your post back into the insert. When it comes in contact with the screw you just dropped in, keep turning it. It will back the insert out of the wood/body. Get a tweezers and remove the little screw you dropped in there. (Or shake it out). Pay the receptionist on the way out.
@Lucatubo69 Жыл бұрын
do not try this in a strat professional II with trem. My screw went this other way chipping the wood wall behind that ius very very thin.

+Boudreau Guitars Thanks again, I had the PVC,& the washer I just had to run out and get the nut "5/16 / 24" thread count (For anyone else that mite want to do this) Grand total 58 cents & 30 seconds time.. I wanted to ask, It looks like you've done a lot of different things. I have an early 90s LP classic im working on right now I want to remove the existing holly head stock veneer and replace it with another holly veneer with the correct late1950s MOP logo. I already have all the parts here to do everything do you have any suggestion on how I can go about removing the existing holly veneer? I've looked on line I really can't find anything. I was just going to heat it up with an iron but im not real sure if there is a go to plan to do this nice an easy, Thanks J.
@BoudreauGuitars8 жыл бұрын
+Pistol Walker are you sure the veneer is made of holly? Gibson switched to a volconized fiber overlay a long tome ago.. I would try to steam it off with a damp rag, a flat iron and a putty knife with an edge on it.
@runrabbitrun43428 жыл бұрын
+Boudreau Guitars No im not sure it holly, Your most likely right in saying its volcanized fiber overlay . I just though holly cus that's what's on my Historics, Thanks for your input you've been more that helpful .

Hello sir.could you share some of your knowledge on what to do regarding vibrations from the thin retaining wire on the tunomatic bridge which is on my epiphone 335 guitar.l have looked online but am still unsure.much obliged.
@BoudreauGuitars4 жыл бұрын
John Tchibukdjian , it’s the nature of the beast with that style bridge, I would suggest replacing it with the Nashville style bridge. Basically that’s all you can do. Or you could bend an arc into the wire so it presses against the screws tighter
@johntchibukdjian29014 жыл бұрын
@@BoudreauGuitars thanks for your swift reply.much appreciated.l have nothing to lose by giving it a go.is the wire there simply to stop it all falling out when re stringing .thanks again

You have to be very careful if you use this method, or you'll end up with a "smile" or a ring in your guitar face. Try a looong bolt and the fender washer with a socket or PVC and use it as a slide hammer.
@celicharvel6 жыл бұрын
Seems like the dowel or machine screw method dropped in the hole and then turning a bolt into the threads is even better.
@BoudreauGuitars6 жыл бұрын
Like I stated near the end of the video, I tried that once and the screw got pushed into the wood of the body and the insert went no where
@bordonbert6 жыл бұрын
That method has actually been known to crack out the hole through the rear of the guitar. Some models it's fine, others are too weak to take it.
@Colhogan062 жыл бұрын
Technically if the threads go all the way through the bushing, you really wouldn't need the PVC pipe. The bolt itself would come out the other end of the bushing, and as you turn the bolt, the bushing would climb up the bolt. If the bushing doesn't have threads all the way through it, then you definitely would need the PVC pipe. I'm not sure if the bushings are all are the same, but the 2 sets I have seem to be. As a disclaimer, that wasn't my idea. I got it from someone else.

Easy when you don't have finish on a guitar! Try it on a guitar with a nice finish! Then we will talk
@CarcPazu4 жыл бұрын
Too complicated. Just pus a flat head screw top-down in the hole, screw your bolt in and watch it go up once your bolt reaches the pointy tip of the screw. No special apparatus needed.
