It started out as unsold products, then they saw the money to be made using inferior products in the outlets.
@debbiescott6732
@debbiescott6732 Жыл бұрын
that's very true. Outlet stores use to be a place the retail store could send their product that didn't sell that year so the store would send their last year stuff to the outlet so they could have room for the new products. But not anymore. Now the outlets only sell inferior made products made specifically for only the outlet.

A few 🦴s to pick: 1, logos and canvas.. (laughing in Louis) literally sold in high end stores and less so in outlets bc they’re big sellers (I’ve seen it in Burberry, sometimes even for the exact same price). Real leather and other fur/skins can also be made for outlets. 2, sometimes sales professionals don’t even know if it’s come from the store or not bc of huge inventory. 3, sales professionals can definitely lie, although a good one won’t bc they don’t want a return commission. Worked for Gucci for several years; items that are damaged-out, or returned past the return period, are sent for reconditioning and straight to the outlets. I know this because I was able to trace several products through the supply chain via their SKU, and they all went from our store to the service facility in Hoboken, and then to outlets in Florida or Palm Desert.

As someone who worked in a “high end” outlet this is true in America as well lol the stock for the outlet store was mostly polyester while the boutique overstock was wool, cotton, silk, blends and such. I worked at a Calvin Klein outlet, almost all of our stuff was private label (i.e mass produced without a logo) and CK just slapped their name on it. The quality spoke for itself (that, and the "Made in..." label). Employees aren't obligated to tell you if it's outlet or not, we may not know the answer and we also aren't trained on how to look it up. This was just my store, so not everwhere is like this. However, I can bet a lot of employees will tell you the same thing.

And the RRP (recommended retail price)on the tag is complete fiction. The outlet price IS the RRP. People get so upset when you tell them outlets are full of stuff made for outlet. Do they really think these brands would set up shops sell the real thing at a loss????? 😂

Yes! That’s true. What I do is usually go frequently and check the new arrivals and if they match with recent collections ( and I actually find runway pieces for better prices). Everything else said on video is true.

Well, if you lie in the uk the buyer can sue the brand for fraudulent or negligent misrepresentation. Small claims court, online process. They wouldn't need much evidence either. A receipt, and the right compelling account would all be enough. I dont want to give wording away, but anyone with a small bit of legal knowledge could do it. The store's insurers would likely settle before it gets to court.

I disagree a bit. Outlet products aren't necessarily much worse quality. Think about it. They are willing to have less margin from a product if that means that you like their product and then later buy the famous models from the flagship stores. It's sort of like the psychology that McDonald's uses with happy meals. The happy meals are extremely cheap for what you get. They want to incentivize you to bring your kids there for the cheap meal so that A) You as a parent will have to eat the expensive products and B) the child gets an addiction to McDonalds and will continue to go there when they grow up.

Sometimes they have "irregulars" - where a seam doesn't line up for a consistent pattern, where the buttons or zipper are very slightly off center, where the stitching went wonky, etc. They refuse delivery of any product that is visibly, horribly inferior... but these minimal defects are harder to spot right away, usually discovered when separated for shipment to stores. I got a $1400 Vera Wang formal cocktail dress for $42... compared it to the original online (checking the tag for same materials & origin) and asked the clerk why it was marked irregular. She had no idea. We went over it together & couldn't figure it out. Given all we had to compare was a photoset, we could only conclude the color wasn't as deep in the dress I was buying as it was in the boutique. That our phone screens just muted the color so it looked the same. Knew that a lot of companies did as video says for years, only went into that outlet store on a whim after meeting up for lunch at mall. Serendipity I've yet to recreate again...

Silver lining: if you want a deal on a bag that is from the boutique be nice to the outlet employees especially the outlet managers they can set aside items when the boutiques cannot sell them. For example, the boutique nearby would send us ( at the outlet) their last few bags in a certain color /model, the company I worked for let us set aside items for the most “loyal” customers in our database for our store. I personally would set them aside for the nice customers before I even looked into the database 😅 great way to make sales and reward good customers in our area.

I thought everyone knew this. I grew up in a factory town so we knew that the outlets sold "seconds" or rejects. Even those this applied to textiles, furniture, and other goods produced in my hometown, we just thought this applied to outlet malls as well. However, you may find those rare retail store items that were shipped to the outlet as a last resort to be sold. I usually have better luck buying clearance items from an high end department store.

I work for an outlet in the UK and I can tell you that the bigger brands that shift the most money likely have made-for-outlet lines, i.e. Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, but smaller brands won't: Sandro, Reiss, Barbour. But there has been a noticeable reduction in material quality across the board along with price increase. But you pay for the name anyway, no one is really paying for anything else, the markup on any 'luxury' brand is ridiculous, if you want quality and have the money, find smaller stores where you can guarantee fair practice and good quality, don't pay ludicrous prices for a logo

I don’t see the problem. Some people can’t afford boutique prices and are glad to have an affordable and authentic piece of a luxury brand. I’m not with the pretentious attitude around what people like.

I never buy anything from the outlets after knowing this. I find the quality of the handbags is not as good as the brand luxury store, I can notice a difference in these bags they look cheap

In the US at least, you are not allowed to lie to sell a product. That’s the law, never mind the moral implications.

If you know the brand you can spot the made for the outlet goods right away. You have to look harder, and you may get lucky to find one offs boutique items. Be aware and happy shopping everyone!!!!

Well it depends on the country law , in France you can’t put on sales or in outlet items that hasn’t been in regular stores for at least a month . They can’t produce items just for outlet
