*I LIVE IN BULGARIA* we are super lucky here that we still have actual artisans in little shops making stuff and I can get a leather bag custom-made in my city for about $150 But I was devastated to see today a small bespoke dressmakers had closed down - I HOPE they have moved to new premises, they were always busy. Its entierly normal here to see people on the bus with bespoke coats or dresses on, many women have their clothes tailored for them, there are maybe 30 seamstresses of bespoke makers in my city of Burgas - 250k people

@@grat2010 I agree. I was just talking to my sister, she's just had a new clutch put in her car, it's cost £2000. Over here they would just refurbish it in a little workshop for about £75. We still have LOTS of people earning a living repairing things, refurbishing things, and making things. I'm British, so I see it and appreciate it as something special and wonderful, the people who live here sadly they don't appreciate it it's just normal to them.

That was something I noticed while on holiday in Greece, lots of artisan shops making individual items and repairing things. It is a really old school, holistic approach, people employed for their skills, Not working in giant factories reproducing the same stuff over and over.

*HOW TO START A FASHION BRAND* I 1000% agree you should start by making your own clothes. As some will know I tailor men's historical suits as a semi-professional hobby... I took down my Instagram cos I had to endlessly turn people down who wanted to place orders. If you are making things for yourself and you are getting inundated with people begging to buy your stuff - maybe get some funding and start a brand. BUT... You also need to learn how fabric works and how it wears, how it behaves and how it ages. MAKE YOUR OWN CLOTHES.

I def cannot afford Rick Owens but some of the designs are very up my alley. The translucent leather one from last season looks so cool! Some of my friends have polenes and the leather is so soft! Too curvy for me but def good craftsmanship.

we often talk about fashion as something over there while we're over here. pay attention to bliss's honest to golly excitement with fashion. I'm betting that comes from wearing fashion. and then there is the brand. luxury does not only belie craft and design but also states - don't come near me. however possible skirt the brand and put it on

Mmm bags. Those tiny or large pieces of leather and lining. And pockets... ALL the pockets... I love the Birkin but will never be able to afford that price point. So I've been teaching myself leatherwork so I can build one for myself - contrasting lining and overflowing in customized pockets for me gear and subway pass. I want a good bag but the exchange rate (Japanese Yen→USD/EUR) has been CRAP post COVID so I can’t afford most of the “good” bags. Is there any good bags under 200USD??? Maybe some Japanese brands (some Issei Miyake lines are decently affordable but don’t know well enough about quality)

I feel that non-fashion people judge fashion people the same way they think fashion people judge them. I will assume that in the last 20 years fashion became associated with elitism, fame, shock value and rich people doing weird stuff, and it’s a surprisingly hard world to get into if you want, that’s why your channel is so useful culturally

Oh man getting a job at a design (any type of design agency) is a thing. So hard to get real feedback. You just end up in your head making up reasons why they said no. Because no one will talk to you even if ask. Most places do not want to spend anytime telling the applicant what they need to work on or what is missing. Sucks.

Hi Bliss, normally I like your content, but your comments on Balenciaga were really disappointing. Not only has Demna repeated the same scheme for years and I doubt that people are not getting tired of it. But most of all I was disappointed that you are still paying any attention to a brand with such an atrocious scandal in their port folio, especially in light of the luke warm standard reaction from the people at Balenciaga that we saw subsequently. That is so thoughtless. I honestly wish people would give Balenciaga the Dolce&Gabbana treatment!

i agree the balenciaga scandal was really bad, but i really love their clothes. John Galliano is also a racist piece of shit, but he happens to be one of the best designers on earth and I would still wear his clothes because they're simply beautiful. And we don't really know if the Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition scandal was really their fault or the fault of the company who took the pictures. Also the teddy bears thing doesn't shock me tbh, they just look like goth teddy bears, not really bdsm, but you could say that the goth and the bdsm aesthetic are connected.

omg can people stop with Rick Owens? He is literally a cult. Japanese (and now Chinese, Taiwanese and to a lesser extent Korean) designers are so much groundbreaking than he is. The whole abs- & 'perfect white masculinity' obsession at Rick is legit scary, as is his inability to design anything that would look good on a short thick person.

On the subject of bags, make your own. A needle and thread and some fabric. 100s of types and designs. Simple, complicated it doesn't matter. My last bag I made was from ex army webbing and the bag brow that was from my condemned car seat belts. Give it a go people.
