Luxury fake power saver plug (with schematic)

The power saver scam has a long history. In the past, travelling salesmen used to give a seemingly plausible demo of the device using a rigged suitcase presentation. Now with the Internet the scam is pushed via social media platforms like Facebook and misdeclared adverts on platforms like KZfaq.
Some of the sellers use tear-jerking stories of young kids inventing the devices and sharing them with the world to help people, despite being offered millions of dollars by "big oil" to suppress it. They often use stolen video footage redubbed with the fake story.
The sellers often base their payment system in a country with low moral standards and drop-ship the items from China or local warehouses. If you've been duped it is not advised to engage further with them. Look on it as a lesson to be more cynical in future.
In reality, if your power company charges you for "apparent power" (a real risk with "smart" meters) just randomly plugging a capacitor into a wall socket could cost you MORE. In a worst case scenario this plug could cost you an extra unit of electricity for every day it's plugged in. Over the 365 days of a year that could be a significant cost. (£80 a year at local rates.)
Add the risks associated with the bad electronic design and you also increase the risk of having a house fire by using one of these pointless devices.
The only time a capacitor is going to reduce your electricity bill is when you are charged for apparent power (kVA vs kW), it is used with specific types of highly inductive loads, is matched to them and only active when they are. A simple capacitor does not improve the power factor of modern electronic loads.
If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:- www.bigclive.co...
This also keeps the channel independent of KZfaq's algorithm quirks, allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.

@micheals1992

@@Mark1024MAK the crazy thing is an internal combustion engine would cost 50p/kWh (there's 10kwh in 1L of petrol and at 30% efficiency you would get 3kwh of usable energy for every litre)... So 35p/kWh is probably daylight robbery considering you could get down to 33p/kWh burning kerosene (heating oil) which is currently around £1/L. The catch with this though is that you'd only get 30% efficiency when you're running a high load like a shower.

As anyone, who has seen my comments in the past, knows, I have no idea what this thing is suppose to do. So, I am one of those totally ignorant consumers who would be tempted to buy one of these things. However, I have been around for some time(81 years), and know that if something sounds too good to be true, and is being suppressed by industry, it's probably doesn't work. What does surprise me, somewhat, is why the Consumer Protection Agency in the U.S. hasn't gone after these products. Are there some situations where these things could save on electricity bills? In other words, what the hell are they suppose to be doing, aside from possibly burning down your house? The only thing that was missing from your usual quality of video, Clive, was you didn't have to become destructive to get at the innerds of this thing(did the manufacturer think hiding the screw under a piece of paper was going to defeat you?).

I'm amazed that anyone is gullible enough to think these would have any measurable effect on their home electric bill. So sad. :(

The one thing that stops me looking at one of those is that they cost a huge amount of money for their fakery.

- The scammers did the same thing to DiodeGoneWild- they used a silent video clip from his debunk stripdown to try and sell rubbish.

Yes there are countless feeble people out there that would buy one of those and that's why products like those items will always be with us . Soooo if you convinced one person not to buy an item like that you have done your duty, well done, keep it up, goodnight.

No mention of the stray strands of wire where the cap is soldered to the board? Some scams come and go but this one has been around for at least 50 years? It's surprising to see new case designs for these, I guess this is such a good scam that they know they will sell enough units to get back the money spent on the injection molds.

Do you think the capacitor is actually that package size, or a much smaller capacitor resin'd into the larger case... 🤔

Why didn't they use two 47k resistors? One to replace the top 100R and one to replace the 100k. That would half the power in the position where the 100k is.

2uf lol. You are really going to do a load of power factor correction with that lol. I mean like an 18w fluorescent batten normally has like 3 times that value inside it anyway lol. We don't get charged for apparent power anyway... yet?
