If people are watching the creator consistently, then by definition, I don’t think anybody can say that they are out of touch. If someone consistently gets engagement with their content, it means that they’re making content that their audience enjoys. There will always be people who don’t really understand it, and perhaps feel uncomfortable depending on their position in life. I think a lot of these creators are starting a more minimalist phase because they probably are not getting as much engagement as before due to this phase of the economy or even just trends in content styles. I think you brought up an excellent point that I haven’t heard anybody else mention. And that’s that a lot of people who watch luxury content don’t necessarily purchase it, however they appreciate it and are enthusiastic about it. Most creators are probably monetizing their channels off of more affordable alternatives, just like you said. It’s understandable that most people are not able to spend that much on luxury within a year but a lot of us absolutely love fashion and we enjoy watching others as a community. Just because I can’t buy a birkin every year doesn’t mean the luxury creator I watch is out of touch and I def do not expect them to justify their purchase or apologize for loving luxury.

Hi back Dayle! Thanks for the shoutout. I gasped when I saw yours and I still can't believe I got a similar one! On my video about this it really was a huge mix of answers as to if people enjoy luxury content or have moved on. Hi Dayle. I watch your channel because I like to see your excitement about things. It entertains me, your enthusiasm and sparkling eyes distract me from every day life. Your style is different to mine, thank god for my wallet 😂. I do buy luxury items here and then but mostly things I enjoy finding finally comfortable at 50 to find and improve my style. I learned a lot with your videos about color palette. I was always buying clothes because I found them cute regardless of the color that was my mistake. I don’t care about hauls, they make me feel uncomfortable and sponsored videos often make me stop watching because the video is built around the marketing of a sponsored product. To keep it simple I hope for more fun, relatable and honest content in luxury YT. Thank you Dayle for distracting me.

Hi Dayle, luxury KZfaq for me is research, entertainment and escape. Constant unboxings turn me off but genuine joy and appreciation of handbags is contagious. BTW, I finally bought my first Fendi Peekaboo recently and wanted to share that with our Fendi Queen 😅 I went in DJ’s with the intention of buying another Speedy20 but walked out with a Fendi Mini Peekaboo in navy selleria and silver hardware instead! It just looked so good with the dress I was wearing that day. The leather smells so devine 🥰 Looks like I’ll be on the Fendi train for a while….I also tried on the mini Baguette in red selleria and can’t get it our of my head!!! 😬

Hi Dayle, your video on the state of luxury KZfaq was incredibly thought-provoking. I agree with your assessment that luxury content often serves as a form of escapism for many viewers. However, I also see how it can sometimes appear out of touch, especially when the focus shifts too much towards constant high-end purchases. One of the key points you raised that resonated with me was the diversity within the luxury KZfaq audience. Many viewers, myself included, enjoy the content not because we are constantly buying luxury items, but because we appreciate the artistry, craftsmanship, and stories behind these pieces. It's not just about the material possession, but the journey and the passion that go into acquiring and appreciating these items. I also share your sentiment on the importance of authenticity. Channels that balance luxury with real-life perspectives and thoughtful discussions about purchases are the ones that maintain their relevance and connection with viewers. It’s the genuine joy and thoughtfulness behind the content that make it compelling. Thank you for fostering a space that values both escapism and meaningful dialogue. Your channel strikes a great balance, and it’s clear that you put a lot of thought into creating content that resonates on multiple levels.

Hi Dayle! Appreciated your comments on this topic. I've been watching luxury YT for 8+ years and it's certainly changed a lot but so have my viewing preferences and habits. I still enjoy it! Today I watch creators whose personalities and style I like who create a variety of fashion-oriented content. Most of them do this as a hobby vs a job, and I think I relate to them more because they talk about how they integrate their interest in fashion into their everyday lives, which gives me inspo and ideas with less "influencing" than there was in the past. Maybe that's the part that's feeling out-of-touch right now?

Tamara is the best example for me. She is a beautiful, hard working woman, but I don’t follow her social media because her lifestyle and her content are just nothing I can relate to. All seems to be an advertisement too. I couldn’t find her bag reviews helpful because she doesn’t buy them (in most cases). The KZfaqrs I follow have around 10k followers and those are the most genuine, informative, entertaining and (most importantly) relatable for me to watch. I am happy to see their channels growing though, hoping they will remain who they are.

Hey there! In the beginning you talked about not begrudging others who are in different financial parts of their life, and as someone who actually does buy luxury bags and in part wants videos on specific bags to ensure i want to make the investment, i do struggle with jealousy and spite when i see others who seem to be able to afford more than me. It’s a part of my healing journey that i’m working through and will likely always struggle with. But i have to say my favorite luxury youtubers, though have many amazing (and likely expensive bags) are also the most humble and most real, like you! It’s videos like this that help me heal and learn and remember we are all in different walks of life and we don’t need to compare ourselves. so i’m learning to just enjoy ❤

Hi Dayle! A little bit of both for me! Clearly budget-wise, the luxury channels are out of touch for me, although I can afford some luxury items each year, but not that many. That said, it is an escape, as I enjoy watching collections, reviews, point of views on the luxury goods and industry… But I mainly enjoy non-professionnal KZfaqrs (such as you!) as I find the discourse more relatable and truthful. Hope this makes sense 😊

I agree that this is an issue for some - I do wish there was a higher level of awareness in society generally. So many channels feature, promote, ‘sell’ overconsumption. Hey there, Dayle. I like watching luxury youtube because I find it very entertaining and escapism. I started watching for research purposes; I write fanfiction and I took an original character of mine and paired her with an obscure fictional television character and changed his career where he was a billionaire in a totally different field (long winded, I know). To make the characters believable I needed to understand luxury therefore I came to youtube university. Now I love it. I can’t afford the high end items but I learn about styles and silhouettes that can be found in contemporary brands that pay homage to their more expensive siblings, lol. It’s no different than watching the Olympics or other sporting events. I’ll never be an Olympian but I can cheer on those who are. Great video!

I have watched luxury channels for several years, starting with Autumn Beckman and adding all of the creators you know well. Interestingly, I own nothing more expensive than several nice Coach bags and some Longchamp bags. It’s truly escapism for me. I have no feeling whatsoever about any creator’s financial situation. I’m ecstatic for everyone that acquires what they love. I honestly come back to every channel for interesting topics and the personality of the creators. I watch Meredith in awe, and totally love Gwenny ( one of my favorites!) and all of your crazy friends. I appreciate the “group” of you that are so down to earth regardless of your ability to purchase crazy expensive things. I used to buy luxury bags all the time but realized that as a pensioner I don't have the same need for bags and don't have the same opportunity to buy. However, I still have the same longing to see everything new that comes and above all to see the extravagant bags that never will fit into my life again. For me, it is escapism. I love seeing the genuine joy of an unboxing. I love seeing what’s new and out there. However, I do love the personalities also. Creators come with their own energy. I loved Jerusha’s I don’t give a shit energy. Her sass. She called it like it was. I love Meredith because she’s so down to earth and not pretentious. She may “luxury hard” with her purchases and travel, but she also loves a McCafé coffee, Diet Coke and doesn’t care that her shelves she keeps her bags on aren’t aesthetically pleasing. On the flip side, there are the creators that have just become informercials. There is one creator from Australia that almost every video is “Goelia, lily silk, idyl jewellery”. That is the majority of their content mixed in with a little bit of their original stuff. Without the infomercial, there wouldn’t be enough for a video. I’m never going to buy this stuff. I come here to escape, not watch them push products at us. It makes the creators seem disingenuous. Especially when the video is titled one thing, but the content is 90 percent different pushing products. But I also feel, content creators are seeing the massive shift in this area. And those who are not changing/adapting/acknowledging. These are the content creators that are out of touch and it is showing. ❤❤

I know I have told you this before...but here it is again....I love the communication I have with you. Like you I love fashion and handbags. I love looking at people's collections and the reasoning behind the choices. Occasionally the reviews can help me with my buys. I buy lots of handbags, some luxury, some contemporary , some on holidays and of the country, Vintage, swapping with friends, all gives me pleasure. When I've had my girls for a while I even sell them. Some I give away to friends who love them. I collect jewellery too and the thought that friends can come and get my things when I 'pass on' fills me with great pleasure. It is a passion and passion is good for your mental health and well being. I love my U Tubers like you, Meredith, Connor, Amelia Rose, Isabelle's Style etc. One example of one I've got rid of is MissAmazon...Shea Whitney. You know what I mean. xxxxx

I like looking at pretty handbags, whether unboxings, shopping flogs and talk about new collections where the KZfaqrs are genuinely happy and have bought the bags or just discussing the new styles because they love the bags. Can’t afford luxury handbags but I love seeing videos about them. As you say the videos are pure escapism. I love handbags and am content to buy what I can afford and I have some really beautiful handbags which make my heart sing but are from brands that aren’t luxury. I do laugh at KZfaqrs who “graciously” do videos about cheaper bags, which are usually anything between 1500 to 3000 pounds and that is not what I call cheap. Watching luxury handbags is just one type of video I enjoy on KZfaq, but I don’t enjoy luxury KZfaqrs pontificating or do I enjoy them promoting brands they have been sponsored by. There is a tendency amongst some KZfaqrs, not all, to look down on “High Street” or brands on the margins of what is called luxury, which is a shame.

Look luxury has always been expensive and to be fair, way out of my reach for much of my life. It is only now that I can justify the cost of it and while I think some of the bags are over priced, I used to think they were all over priced and when I think about it of course they are over priced. Lol. I am here because I love luxury. I love to see the gorgeous pieces you share with us and I still very much enjoy seeing it, talking about it and just engaging with it.

I do buy luxury but less frequently than what luxury content creators do. Last year, I bought several pieces for instance, and this year only one so far. I enjoy watching luxury content so I don't have to spend time getting all dressed up just to look presentable to go to Chanel etc. It's great to see what's out there and then reviews about those items so I can decide if it's worth it for my collection. I don't enjoy the watering down of content in the midrange level like what sponsorships within the video offer or bags that creators wouldn't buy themselves if not gifted the items. Defeats the purpose of a luxury channel for me, but I just fastforward through the sponsorships!

I really try to buy less but buy better so I generally buy luxury pieces. For me it’s not that I think content creators are out of touch because I don’t expect them to be relatable. I just prefer thoughtful considered content that is inspiring and interesting - excessive consumerism masquerading as being a ‘collector’ doesn’t interest me. I don’t feel bad about myself watching that content I just value my time and find it boring. And I really dislike promotions for Idyll Goelia Lily Silk etc. seriously 14 minutes on ugly cheap shoes and 6 minutes on the actual content is painful. I’ve stopped watching people make coffees (yeah I’ve been to a cafe I’m good) and controversially if someone seems too orgasmic over a bag unboxing I’m done - I’m interested but it’s just a bag. Some of my favourite content creators are Politics and Fashion and Katie Danger because they are hilarious.

I watch luxury KZfaq and I don't buy luxury. I have one Louis Vuitton bag that I got for a high school graduation present in 1998.. I've used it three times maybe. But, I love fashion. I love reading about it and browsing online. However, I work from home, have a small child, live in a rural area, and prefer to invest my money in travel. I also love food, travel, and animal related KZfaq channels. This idea of "out of touch" is so relative. There will always be people with more or those who are more comfortable spending money. It has nothing to do with my place in life. I enjoy luxury because it is like art. I like art, but I am not buying a Picasso painting... If that makes sense.

Also those telling you the “10 Cheapest Bags from xx Brand”, like, um, I can see that on the website 😋. Totally agree. I think some people are triggered by luxury content and they seek to self-soothe by attempting to 'call others to account'. As if making other people as miserable as they are in that moment, is a solution to inequality. However, thoughtful comments are worthwhile making it's a fine line as to whether this is whining or social commentary. Both whining and boastful self-indulgence are similar, we just need to be mindful of our own frailties and capacity to err. Or do we? All I know is there is only so much social realism, war, pestilence, environmental degradation that I can take. Then I find myself reaching for a handbag of my own, or respond to the constant barrage of handbag ads in my email, or just surrender to a simple handbag vlog. Are we all Marie Antoinettes or Aung San Suu Kyi? Amal Clooney shows us we can get the balance right.

I enjoy watching luxury handbag videos, even though I'm not in a tax bracket to buy them. I can still dream... I like both kind of videos, eyecandy and talky videos that I can listen when I can't be watching. I stopped watching a KZfaqr, who was unboxing huge hauls once or twice a week. In one video she showed how she had a bought several clothing and accessories pieces worth of thousands of dollars each, because "I liked them or whatever", and shrug her shoulders. Mindless spending is a turn off for me.

Hola! Bit of a wierd comment from me maybe, I find this out of touch stuff that YTer are talking about lately just bizarre because like you say either watch them or dont. “Out of touch” is also looking at 50m£ homes on rightmove for sale that I am not buying but still look? Or like the luxury home show on YT, What can I say I like luxury and buy what I like and what I would use day to day. I am defo a personality viewer. I also watch YT because I don’t want to commit to a series on tv 😅 if someone has a massive haul, fine, i like nice things, if someone has a “chatty vlog or drive with me” and i like their personality, also fine. People obviously become obsessive with specific topics, become overwhelmed and can’t afford these things and check out. That’s also fine. And also these out of touch people may have viewers that are on that level and then are relate-able so?

There is a particular youtuber who I cannot stomach watching. The person is nice enough but they just do constant weekly sometimes multiple a week luxury hauls and it just seems mundane the way they pull.out luxury bag after luxury bag with what appears to be no great excitement they just immediately move on to the next item as if they had just gone out and bought a selection of groceries. The over consumption just makes me feel negative.

I'm a bit late to this video but if it was about relatability for me I wouldn't be able to watch any of the fashion girls because they're all skinny, they all buy clothes online and wear them the same day they arrive, I'm lucky if one item of clothing in 20 fits me and even then I don't feel comfortable wearing it straight away 😂 I just like to look at beautiful things whether it's handbags or clothes or hotels but the person hosting the video has to be nice and not annoying and that's all it comes down too. Some of the UTubers who I used to like who now have so much wealth and they're constantly doing these huge astronomically expensive hauls without explaining how they are able to afford these things are annoying. They are vague about their jobs, vague about the Industries they work in, obviously we don't need to know everybody's full life stories but without context it's not enjoyable, I've stopped following the people I don't enjoy even if I'm missing out on the eye candy.❤

I watch most of your videos, but no interest in this type fo subject. Luxury is of little to no interest to many people for as many reasons, so is out of touch.. However I love/collect luxury so to many so are the $1600 shoes I wear for work. Thus said if I want and can afford 1 pair or 200 pairs I'LL DO ME .......this is partly why picking/choosing what you watch is great on youtube to watch/like-minded people. Overall some otherwise lux buyers would be tad more prudent lately due to the out of control inflated high cost of living in other areas of normal day to day life now. If you don't want to watch luxury then don't, YOU DO YOU. Possibly go watch 'just stop oil' (ignore that they are funded by Getty oil) to make yourself feel better.
