Thank you Brent for another great video. Here in Australia we just love our 351 Clevelands, simply awesome engines and your work and knowledge is second to none, also a interesting rod/piston combination. I use 6.2 rods and did not know you could go longer. Much love and respect from Australia.

What a coincidence. I just mentioned Australian engine builders to Brent in my post To Brent. This is what I told Brent: “I am more of a road racing kind of guy and for the street and track I like engines that are more like European engines, for example Ferraris engines. I don’t like huge overpowered massive torque engines. A great street and road racing engine should be very responsive all through the RPM range, quick revving and high revving to maybe about 8000 RPM. Most of the engine builders on KZfaq are not focused on this kind of combination. They seem to be more interested in a hot rod drag racing engines. Australian engine builders tend to build more of these kind of engines for street road racing style.” Currently I own Ford escort Cosworth’s, and I had a sapphire Cosworth four-door group A car and an escort cosworth group A by Ford Motorsports in the UK.

impressive performance. in my years as a dyno operator the cleveland engines that came to me to fuss with never had that level of performance on pump fuel one 351 4v w/4.00 stroke destined for a 72 mustang made 430ish hp and 450ish tq. i didnt build them just broke in tested and tuned customers motors. why some folks do what they do without any knowledgable or logical reasoning never ceased to amaze me. the greatest asset to all those running a msd distributer in my experience was a 10-12 degree fbo bushing. to get base timing up in the 20-24deg range if big cam large intake and carb were in play. refrain from running stone cold non resistor -7 to -9 ngk plugs on your low compression grocery getter. resist the urge to feel compelled you need 7-8 lbs of fuel pressure on the old family car. carbon core plug wires regardless of color do not belong on anything. you dont need to run a high viscosity oil strong enough to shesr a distributer drive pin on the old work car. dont over fill the oil pan and 12.5 is way to fat for any warmed up pump gas motor to idle.

Brent this is another video that you can be very proud of. You clearly had a goal in mind from the beginning and the components were selected by using your impressive experience and knowledge of Clevelands to achieve your goal with outstanding results ! Your Cleveland assembly videos are never too long in my opinion. But this shorter format covers the important details along the way and your narrative is a nice touch to explain and entertain. Using the dyno pull numbers is the perfect finish 🏁.

Great video Brent. Personally I prefer videos of about 15 minutes in length, simply because I can find 15 minutes to watch one in, but finding an hour isn't easy. Love the Cleveland stuff

Yeah the Cleveland is a great engine as far as Im concerned. Theres alot of myths and lore concerning this engine especially the 4v version. Witch alot of it isn't based on facts.

I love anything with cleveland style heads, I had 2 Boss 302 back in the early 80's. One of them was really built and was an 8000 rpm screamer, too much fun!

Back in the 70's I went to the drag strip and seen a 340 Duster that the engine was destroked to 302 CI. That car run 9 something seconds at over 140 mph in the quarter mile. I couldn't believe it.

You ever done or thought about doing a 351m build? I'd be very happy to compare yours vs my budget build 351m with forged pistons and roller valvetrain. Mine I had to bore .060 over. Runs nice and cool with a 195 tstat and better water pump. Has about 1500 miles on it so far in a 78 F250 2 wheel drive.

I didn't realize the heads here were unported stock 4v clevelands. The wild thing is that torque curve near 450ft-lb 4750 to 7000 rpm and it may have started earlier than that.

It's amazing. rev to 8000.

If u road race big torque and a wide power band is exactly what is used. High winding Ferrari engines are exactly the opposite of what is typically used in most road race combos.

I need to fit under a shaker scoop on a Mach I. How much would a Blue Thunder repro of the B351 intake manifold and a non-Dominator carb have cost you? I am guessing it would move everything down the RPM band significantly.
@danielwilson66656 ай бұрын
I also have to take into consideration which intakes will fit under the factory Shaker assembly on my ‘70 Mach 1. I would think that any manifold with the same height of an original B351 intake would fit without interference from the closed hood. I have the Ford replacement rubber Shaker seal on mine. It’s soft enough to compress against the hood about an inch without damage when extra height is needed. The mild 351C currently in the car has an Edelbrock 4-V dual plane that fits fine with the Shaker but I wouldn’t recommend it for performance.
@goldysgarage1896 ай бұрын
Brent, if built today, how much would this mill cost?

Out of curiosity I would love to now the approx. lift, and duration at .050 of your custom cam.
@mrcirino51816 ай бұрын
How much do you cut down for the rocker arm studs.
@danielwilson66656 ай бұрын
The non-adjustable standard Cleveland heads hydraulic valve train can be easily modified to be adjustable by machining .300” from the top of each rocker arm pedestal. The hole left after the push-in studs removal has to be tapped for the new studs. Then the required push rod guide plates and 7/16” ARP screw-in studs with adjustable lock nuts will allow a wide variety of solid/roller lifter cam designs to be used. Most experienced Cleveland builders already know this but I included more details for those that don’t 🏁.

Thanks for taking my advice on how to get more hits on your KZfaq channel! You owe me some kickbacks! I’m just joking. A few weeks ago I suggested you do exactly what you’re doing now it seems to be a lot more interesting showing the building process, combination and then what it does on the dyno. Then modifying it slightly with different cams, heads or head or porting, intakes, etc and seeing the outcomes.
