finally, I found an accomplished pastel artist doing realism! Monet would cringe if he saw what is being called impressionism. Overly dark, fast smudgy geometric shapes for trees, etc. has destroyed today's pastel artists, Lyn, you have saved the day and make me realize I'm not alone!

I do animal commissions, I’m told they look like a photograph, which I take as a compliment. Your use of color and your strokes for the wave and water and the detail last is fantastic! Thank you so much! I will give it a try as soon as I’ve got some time! I’ve subscribed!

Strange how small the world can be. I just left Alaska after 4 weeks there, holidays and a few workshops in oil and pastel!

Thankyou for the superb lesson! It’s much appreciated. I learn so much from watching and especially from your detailed description . It’s interesting and useful to know what some of the actual pastel’s are that you’re using. Great to have some current pastel material on KZfaq.

OMG, what a wonderful teacher, you are. You are about the most talented artist I have ever watched. God blessed you immensely. I love your tutorials, Lyn. Thank you for taking the time to teach us and sharing your world of art. I am a novice, however, I do know fine art as my brother was a fine artist. And he never took a lesson.

Stunning work Lyn. What are the names of the pastels and paper do you use. I have never seen this way of painting before thank you Vicki
@lyndiefenbach7854 Жыл бұрын
Hi Vicki. The paper that I used in this demo was Kitty Wallis (no longer available) but you could use any of the following - UART 600, Fisher 400 or Lux Archival. The pastels are varied - Art Spectrum, Sennelier, Girault, Terry Ludwig, Great American Artworks.

Yes, she is amazing ! I would love to know what paper Lyn is using because like me, she blends with her fingers. Please please tell me ! I have Canson Mi Tients but doubt for some reason that is what she is using. I have UART sanded and one cannot blend like that....am stuck with the paper that so many artists early on when I returned to pastels, raved about and said this was THE paper to use. Only not for me. Hope to hear back very soon as I approach my 80th Birthday in a few weeks. Thank you so much, admire you and love all your beautiful creations !
@lyndiefenbach78543 жыл бұрын
Hi Cynthia. The paper is Fisher 400 which is very similar to UART 600 . Both are heavily sanded surfaces. To blend effectively you need to put a good coverage of pastel down first. Notice that I don’t blend until I have all of my colours down first.
@authia313 жыл бұрын
I’ve not tried a sanded paper yet however I blend with my fingers and I use pastelmat which I find beautiful paper. You still need decent amount of pastel down to blend properly but it’s the first paper I found where I really like the end result

This is a great tutorial, you make it look so easy and natural. Do you put a fixative when finished?
@lyndiefenbach78543 жыл бұрын
Judith Brown no fixative used at all. Fixative would actually darken the work and not necessary to hold the pastel onto the paper. Pastel paintings are the most colourfast of all media and once under glass are absolutely secure.

what would you consider to be the closest equivalent to the Fisher 400 paper - which is unavailable in Australia?
@lyndiefenbach78544 жыл бұрын
Hi Kathy. You can now get Fisher 400 from amazon.com.au, or you could get UART 600 from softpastels.com.au - that's how I get them now.

Is there a certain brand of pastels that you would recommend?
@lyndiefenbach78545 жыл бұрын
Pauline Leippi I use quite a number of different brands but I would always advise students to get Terry Ludwig Intensified Darks which come in 2 sets and Art Spectrum Soft Tinted Whites. Others that I use are Girault, Sennelier, Great American and Richeson.
